Phone HSBC. A voice will thank you for calling Haitch S B C.

This is all kinds of wrong, isn’t it?

Prods say ‘Aitch and pope lovers say Haitch.
Funny how Protestants in the republic say haitch 🧐 and pope lovers are few and far between

Fact.

Fact?

This is nowhere close to the actual realities. Protestants, including those in GB and the ROI will also pronounce it as "haitch".

In reality, "haitch" is rapidly overtaking "aitch", especially amongst young people, including in GB.

surely that post was tongue firmly in cheek??

Fairislefandango · 14/02/2023 16:43

And Irish Protestants that say haitch!

I said 'Irish people and Northern Irish people' (meaning that there are people in both of those categories who say 'haitch'). I'm pretty sure that covers Irish Protestants!

Apparently you can only post on MN if you’ve had a permanent sense of humour failure.

Possibly, you might be right there.

Of course it was.

I believe not all protestants put their toasters away either.

My pil's, who are very catholic, are the only people I know who put their toaster away in the press.

The only person I know who does it is a clean freak Catholic, but she's in a <sucks air through teeth> mixed marriage so maybe she gets it from the in-laws.

FadoFado · 14/02/2023 17:22

I always put my toaster back in the cupboard. It looks tidier! Watching that episode of Derry Girls was the first inkling I had that I was a secret Protestant.

JenniferBarkley · 14/02/2023 17:23

Do you hate Abba Fado?

My fil was not amused when I suggested he is a secret prod.

And like walking?

FadoFado · 14/02/2023 17:28

Aside from Lay All Your Love On Me I DO think Abba are overrated, and I try my best to get my 10K steps a day.

Shock

I'll tell my mother to take my communion and confirmation photos down from the mantelpiece. It's all been a lie!

StaunchMomma · 14/02/2023 17:29

FFS, whether you say aitch or haitch and, let's be frank, we have a million bigger fish to fry, the rapper Aitch sounds awfully similar - hence the joke!!

Unclenching required!

He did such a brutal job of putting the messages in the press his mammy gave out to him for being so bold.

Flounder2022 · 14/02/2023 18:13

You might need to explain press!! 😁

For years, when reading about the 'press' in Irish books (before Google), I envisaged some strange tension-based contraption that people pressed things into for storage.
