To ask, how do you handle your period at night?

I used to be so blessed. I would change tampon at about 10:30, sleep until 6:30 and change. There would rarely be a leak at night.

Since I entered my 30s, I bleed heavier at night, and I also find I need more sleep when I'm bleeding. I want to sleep at around 9-9:30. But I wake up at 1am ish leaking. So it seems I can't leave protection for more than 3 hours, even at night time. I'm knackered in the morning as I can't get back to sleep easily.

I hate sanitary towels, I wake up in the night and have to change those due to the heavy bleeding and also have the additional mess to clean up too.

Am I resigned to getting up every 3-4 hours on my heaviest days? Do other women do this, is this just an accepted part of life if you have heavy periods? I don't know how it's possible to sleep through the night without changing now. It makes me dread those days even more so.

Tampon and a postpartum cloth pad. Sometimes change the tampon in the night.

LopesGirl · 13/02/2023 18:41

I wore tena lady pads and pants because mine was so bad

SnowInJanuary · 13/02/2023 18:41

My periods are very heavy since having my third dc.
Not remotely attractive but I wear the black always discreet incontinence pants at night during heavy flow days. Sometimes I wear them in the day if heavy days fall on a weekend and I'm staying home.

Never leaked through one because obviously they are actually designed for incontinence.

Better than using 2x pads and a towel and still having to get up in the night like I used to.

Beachhutnut · 13/02/2023 18:43

Period pants. Game changer.

Oysterbabe · 13/02/2023 18:43

I use a moon cup with period pants. I never have to get up in the night.

OnMyWayToSenility · 13/02/2023 18:43

Heavy flow lillet, tampons don't have the girth to cope! Huge pad , giant knickers

I also pop a small pad across the back of my pants so I don't get caught out in the night.

Lavender14 · 13/02/2023 18:43

Menstrual cup worked for me plus I used night time maxi pads.

Teaandtoast3 · 13/02/2023 18:44

Moon cup and a night sanitary towel. Sometimes still have an accident but much rarely now

SueD1 · 13/02/2023 18:45

Have fibroid so heavy for two days. Find moon cup enough and use period pants for extra but don’t usually need.
def agree with iron level check - I was deficient when I got them checked

soboredtonight · 13/02/2023 18:45

Tampon, sanitary towel and I have started sleeping in leggings.

WhereIsMumHiding3 · 13/02/2023 18:48

Tampon
Sanitary pad with wings- night time super plus
Sleep on two towels
Wears pjs and big pants

DuchessOfMuck · 13/02/2023 18:51

My periods are horrendous! At night I have to use a mooncup, heavy sanitary pad and period pants! And I still have to change twice on my worst. The bathroom's like a murder scene after I change 😬

Cornelious2011 · 13/02/2023 18:52

Period pants. Since starting using them a year ago I rarely have to give my periods a second thought.

WeWereInParis · 13/02/2023 18:53

A heavy flow reusable pad

CinderRosie · 13/02/2023 18:55

Mooncup and a reusable pad as back up for nights 1-2

BashfulClam · 13/02/2023 18:57

Have always had heavy periods and never use tampons. Three pads. One at the back overlapping one at the front so waistband to waistband is covered. Then an extra pad on the centre. Knickers that fit well are essential and I put an old blanket under and around me. Also wear leggings for the close fit. Never get up in the night to change.

beAsensible1 · 13/02/2023 18:59

Large tampon, plus extra long night sani pad. And on top of a towel in case of leakage.

Tbh i never sleep through when i'm on unfortunately.

will have to try this pad across the back! that is so annoying

EnglishRain · 13/02/2023 19:00

I find a menstrual cup does the job, but my next go to would be period pants. I've not tried them and dread finding some that fit, but sanitary towels just don't stay in the right place for me.

BatshitBanshee · 13/02/2023 19:01

Period pants, super plus tampon and a long maternity pad. I hate hate hate my periods since having DC, the bleeding is so heavy I'm confined to the house for the first two or three days.

LancashireSquirrel · 13/02/2023 19:01

Those that use period pants day/night- isn't the initial cost high? Don't you have to change your knickers a few times throughout the day? And at £25-30 per pair I can't afford that initial outlay. I currently use washable pads and have about 10 that I use/wash on rotation.

Workjobfind · 13/02/2023 19:02

A pad in normally then a pad across the back in a t formation. Toilet training pad thing on the mattress and old sheets.

Sparklingbrook · 13/02/2023 19:03

Super plus tampon, night time pad and period pants. Plus Mefenamic acid and Panadol.

I use them more so to prevent leaks than to bleed straight into them. I don't have to change them a few times a day but I bought mine on Amazon as part of a pack of five and they were nowhere near that costly a pair.

Ketchupwee · 13/02/2023 19:03

Ultra tampon, night time towel and super heavy flow Wuka period pants for me!
