To eat food my dog has got her teeth into

I dropped a packet of sauce/paste on the floor. It’s a thick plastic packet.

My dog picked it up and ran off with it. By the time I chased her down and wrangled the packet out of her mouth, her teeth had made a small piercing in the packet (one or two piercings, but very tiny as she’s got very small teeth).

AIBU to use the sauce inside, or would you bin it and consider it too safe/unhygienic?

I'd eat it

RealBecca · 13/02/2023 17:58

I couldn't enjoy it knowing that so why bother eating it.

Isabelle70 · 13/02/2023 18:04

I would eat it.
Our dog snatched a sirloin steak out of adult Ds hand as he was wafting it around instead of putting in the pan to cook, whilst bitching about the fact I like my steak well done that was already in the pan. We wrestled the steak out the dogs mouth as he wasn't giving it up! Gave it a wash and then he cooked it.
I was going to offer some of my well done steak but the tenderised steak by the dog was more appealing 🤣

ZeroFuchsGiven · 13/02/2023 18:04

I would bin the sauce and the dog tbh.

@Eastereggsboxedupready ahhhhhhhhh your butter-theif is gorgeous!

I am currently lurcherless but the Saluki is working on crimes of all possible manner to make up for this (she learned from the best after all, our bedlington/whippet x saluki, he taught her well). Yesterday she swiped a heel of bread and was delighted with herself!

By “share an ice lolly with dog” do you mean you’ve given your dog what’s left of yours - or you and dog have had it in turns to lick the same lolly? So dog licks lolly - and then you lick the lolly too? Just wanted to check what exactly you meant by this

I (used to) give my cat food to try and if he didn't like it after licking it and nibbling I'd eat it 😅he used to love the chocolate off maltesers so I'd give him some to lick and then eat the honeycomb afterwards

I only don't still do this because I'm a bit more careful about what I feed current cat

Spanielsarepainless · 13/02/2023 18:22

You are cooking it so I would use it.

StandALot · 13/02/2023 18:25

I would still eat it.
I caught my dog licking a freshly roasted chicken that I'd left to rest after cooking a couple of weeks ago.
I still served it up and I'm still here.

Pssspsss · 13/02/2023 18:27

my dog Has been caught eating her own shit. She’s a dirtbag so personally I would not be ingesting anything she’s licked or chewed

I’m honestly crying at this comment😂😂😂 the need to clarify exactly what this poster means has killed me!

UncannySerenity · 13/02/2023 18:33

Gross. But if you are one of those doggy-lovers who lets your mutt lick your face and mouth, go for it.

I tried to be very polite 🤣

I wouldn't think twice about eating it 🤷🏻‍♀️ it honestly wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

HerbalTeaAndCake · 13/02/2023 20:07

Human mouths are NOT dirtier than dog mouths! Dogs eat shit on the floor ffs!

Human mouths are dirtier than dog mouths. If you are unlucky enough to get bitten by a human you're much more likely to develop an infection.

So on the basis that I've used my teeth to get into sauce packets before, I'd probably use it.

Aw, I was going to say this.

It is actually very true that a bite from a human is more likely to cause an infection than a dog bite.

The science will tell you they absolutely are.

A bite from a human is far more likely to get infected than one from a dog. Human mouths are disgusting.

Dunnoburt · 13/02/2023 20:42

Does your dog lick its arse?....... that's the answer
