Follow on from 'pj wearing school runner'...what about people who get ready for bed at 4pm and spend evening in pj's and dressing gown?

I have a neighbour who does just this.

It is bizarre, more so in the summer when the evenings are longer and she can be seen, white dressing gown-clad in the living room window, or at front door, or outside house putting bin out, or down the road at ice cream van.

The worst one was when a car pulled up and she got in it...wearing said pj's and dressing gown....and shoes!

Some nights I want to go to bed at 4pm, let alone just get into a dressing gown.

juliet123 · 08/02/2008 00:23

Sorry. That's a bit weird! I sometimes get dressed at 10am if I'm not going out and am trying to relax but that's going way too far.

Jackstini · 08/02/2008 00:24

Only do it if i have had a bad day after a hot bath - can't be bothered to get dressed again then - that's prob about 6pm though

juliet123 · 08/02/2008 00:27

6pm is reasonable but to go out in the middle of summer? pj's are quite comfy though.

havalina · 08/02/2008 00:29

I put my pj's/casual clothes on as soon as I get in, if I'm not going out again. No bugger ever visits so I would rather be comfy thanks. Who the hell puts nice clothes and make-up on to sit aroubd the house.

havalina · 08/02/2008 00:29

around sorry

Lauriefairycake · 08/02/2008 00:33

I also put mine on when I get in the house, even if it is 4pm - if anyone comes to visit me at home I will be in casual clothes/pj's

Yesterday I painted the front door in pj's and it was 2pm - lots of people walked past and said hi. I also garden in pj's in the summer and just potter about

ItsNotOnlyTheGoodBits · 08/02/2008 00:33

I used to do this when I was working. Only I was never home at 4pm, more like 6pm onwards. And obviously if I wasn't going out in the evening! It just saves having to change from work clothes into something else and then pyjamas later. Cut out the middleman.

1sue1 · 08/02/2008 00:35

LOL I agree, I sometimes like to get changed if i'm not going out again into something comfy, and may as well be pjs as tracky bottoms and tee/whatever...

it's the going outside in them i can't understand..and unlike the pj school runner who at least threw a fleece over the top, we're talking white towelling robe here lol.

Apparently my sis (who lives where I am from) has seen people on buses in pj's, which even I think is excessive.

I don't bother to get dressed if we aren't going out, whats the point just more bloody washing.

Lauriefairycake, weren't you also over on the other thread popping to the shops in your pj's, driving in middle of night in them and even going to the cinema in them??
I think you're hilarious lol and would like to know if you ever get dressed...in fact, do you actually own any clothes? lol

Must admit, I am more comfy in pjs than anything else so there is method in your madness

OP posts:
juliet123 · 08/02/2008 00:45

I think it's forced on you to get dressed at an early age so we are all doing as we were told. It's tempting to rebel! I think you should all have a 'can't be bothered to get dressed day'. You've earned it.

Lauriefairycake · 08/02/2008 00:45

After reading (and contributing) on the other thread I have realised this is contentious - who would have thought ???

  1. parent and child parking
  2. hitting children
  3. fruit shoots and lunchables/greggs sausage rolls
  4. sahm versus wohm

and ......... excessive pyjama wearing

so many contentious issues on mumsnet - this place is sooooooooo funny

Lauriefairycake · 08/02/2008 00:47

1sue1 - you're right I own about 30 pairs of pyjamas

tonights is ones with holly berries

1sue1 · 08/02/2008 00:47

Motherfunk, I don't think its weird lounging in them if you know you're not going out. And if you had to go out, you'd get dressed again would you? I would....my neighbour would not lol...I think it's the huge, white flapping dressing gown thats funny, not the pjs themselves.

On the bus?? lol funny

Does it depend on what type of pjs you are talking about? grannie style or anne summers might not have even bothered getting dressed style?

lucyhoneybee · 08/02/2008 01:30

I've lived in my pyjamas since having baby last month. Weirdly, I sleep naked though; I put them on when I get up.. Saves my clothes from milk stains and housework wear and tear.
Once, years ago I was in pyjamas when man came to read meter. He said he could not come in unless I got dressed first. Thought he was weird not me; I was wearing ankle length flannelette tartan pjs, not boudoir chic. Swapped for miniskirt and vest top and he seemed much happier. loon.

Grouchyoscar · 08/02/2008 01:37

PJ's after 3pm is totally acceptable attire as it is before 3

And big men's PJ's are even better.

madamez · 08/02/2008 01:41

As long as one has one's nips and fanjo covered, WTF has it got to do with anyone else anyway?

1sue1 · 08/02/2008 08:52

Well madamez, you're quite right in that it has sod all to do with anyone, what anyone wears. I am the first in my pj's when I want to lounge around, and this is really
just a light hearted tic observation.
I love my pj's, especially my £4 Primark ones..although I do find that after 1st wash, the tops shrink and make for a cold back in the night from riding up.

Now, for real,no holds barred pj rage, see the other thread.

MarmiteMe · 08/02/2008 09:24

Last weekend DD and I put our pj's on at 6pm on Friday and didn't put on clothes till Monday morning. We still showered/bathed and put clean pj's on but didn't get dressed.
We still did evreything we'd do on a normal weekend when we weren't going anywhere and no one saw us so what does it matter what we wear if we are comfy?

Bangandthedirtisgone · 08/02/2008 09:29

YABU - leave her alone, it's none of your business.

I know this is supposed to be a jokey one, but honestly, is there nothing the people on this site won't pass judgement on?
