Insane ferry /eurostar and flight prices to Europe. Any tips

Easy jet used to be my. Go too and is now insane.

I just looked at eur!!

ostar and for 4 of us to get the train to Paris 1,100

The ferry wasn't much cheaper bearing in mind fuel costs.

Are there any tips? Perhaps booking from the French side or something...

When are you booking for? Ie how far in advance?
Coukd you look at an indirect route eg eurostar to lyon or brussells and then a french train to complete your trip?

ABigSpot · 11/02/2023 08:16

When I looked at ferries for the summer I was getting a return for under £250. Where are you looking?

Floofyduffypuddy · 11/02/2023 08:17

I've browsed easter and Oct half term.

going in half term? or easter?
then you left it a bit late for good prices...

definitely look at french, belgium or dutch sites. they charge in € though.
also look up being a foot passenger on the ferry and taking the ordinary train in france.
interrail sometimes have good options but have limited availability

Floofyduffypuddy · 11/02/2023 08:18

I can book from European easy jet site?

You can use your Tesco clubcard vouchers for Eurostar

Floofyduffypuddy · 11/02/2023 08:28

I’m in France and I don’t think booking in the EU side is any cheaper. Flights uk to france at Easter are always extortionate on easyJet- idk why? Maybe because it’s a popular time for French people to visit the uk.

overall it used to be possibilité to get all four of us on easyJet to the uk and back for under 300-400£.Haven’t been able to find that price for ages now, probably not since Covid tbh. EasyJet totally changed their booking process too and the cost of bags / seat bookings / etc pushes the cost way up.

If you're driving you can always use the tunnel. Just booked a trip and it was very reasonable. Fuel is also cheaper in Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands :). We're only going for a long weekend but the trip is around 270 euros for the four of us.

Floofyduffypuddy · 11/02/2023 08:38

@Chocchops72 I find the fair one way is usual but it's the return in the 100z that pushes it up without any extra.

Cant see euro star on tesco but I can see euro tunnel which is about 168 return and I do have some vouchers.

Assuming you have children at school, could you find out when INSET days are going to be, so you could have a long weekend there, not during school holidays?

MaryShelley1818 · 11/02/2023 08:46

We just drive 🚗 (from North East England) Far easier, cheaper, more flexible, can bring loads of stuff for the kids.
Doing Holland, Belgium and France this year.

FatSealSmugSoup · 11/02/2023 08:49

Fuel is NOT cheaper in the Netherlands and it never has been. When I lived there it was worth crossing borders to get better deals!

Pr0fessionalLurker · 11/02/2023 08:54

Three of us on Eurostar to Paris in August is £300 return, not sure why it's so expensive for you.

JasperHale · 11/02/2023 08:54

Does it have to be easyjet? I usually start looking about 9-10 mths in advance, and keep checking (skyscanner and individual airlines). Just booked flights to Spain in August, BA sale was £99, day after sale ended I bought the same tickets for £39 each.

@MaryShelley1818

We have done in the past but it was a few places in really wanted to see are quite far to drive too in old unreliable cars. Eg Paris is do able.

We used to drive all the time and have spent many a year in the Netherlands.

My dc said they would like to try new places.

Yep.

You can work out where the school holidays are in both France and the UK by looking at how airline ticket prices - any airline - fluctuate throughout the year.

As far as the OPs quest goes IMO it's certainly very late in the day to get good deals, even if there ever were any, for the coming half term or Easter.

Floofyduffypuddy · 11/02/2023 09:08

@JasperHale.. That's amazing are the flight times OK.

Which website was that pleas.

Fuel is currently reasonably priced in the Netherlands. I live in a border town and it's the same price or lower (deal days make a difference) than Germany. I paid 1.72/l at the pump this week (although there was a discount because our local team was playing a match).

Floofyduffypuddy · 11/02/2023 09:08

@notimagain.. I've been looking for a while now even the day the easy jet new flights were released

@Pr0fessionalLurker.
What times are the trains please and how many nights are you going

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 11/02/2023 09:14

Why on earth are you only looking at one airline?

HilaryThorpe · 11/02/2023 09:18

Could you go from Newhaven to Dieppe as foot passengers and then get the train to Paris? There is parking in Newhaven and their foot passenger rates are reasonable in my experience.

gogohmm · 11/02/2023 09:36

Fuel was considerably cheaper in france last September, the costs in general were very reasonable especially hotel prices. Eurotunnel wanted £69 (one way, took britanny on the way) so took the ferry, was £29 booked 2 days before). We didn't go in school holidays.
