Would you have let your 4yo watch this movie?

Left my son at a very trusted friend's house for 4 hours yesterday. Just learnt from him that she let him watch The Mummy. I haven't seen it but he was telling me about how bugs eat their skin, it has a pg13 rating and commonsensemedia.org recommends 12+. He's told me a lot about the movie and I'm about to purchase it and watch it so I know exactly what he's watched. For anyone who has seen it, is it as scary as it sounds? How upset do I need to be?

Which version of "the mummy"?
Knowing the actual version will affect my answer.

To be fair I don't actually know

I love that film but there is no way I’d let a 4 year old watch it. My daughter watched it when she was 10 and was gone but she’s not bothered by scary stuff my youngest is more sensitive and I have to be very careful about what she watches.

Whatkatyforgottodo · 10/02/2023 20:39

Fine not gone!

Cnidarian · 10/02/2023 20:40

Absolutely not

Scalessayeek · 10/02/2023 20:40

My daughter loves them all, started watching just after 4. She was quite mature for her age though.

To be honest it’s the sort of thing I’d not have a second thought about until someone else mentioned it. Now her best friend is 2 years older and can’t watch anything remotely scary. I think it depends on the child.

SecretVictoria · 10/02/2023 20:41

Scared me as an adult 🤣 so definitely wouldn’t show it to a kid!

PumpkinPastiez · 10/02/2023 20:43

You don't even know if her kid was the one watching the film and your kid joined in..

Just tell her you're really disappointed that she's ruined your child's childhood and that she won't be allowed to do any more free child care for you...

Bet she'll be devastated

surreygirl1987 · 10/02/2023 20:44

No way!!!

The before anything else you should find out, because they may have been watching a comedy and you've brought a horror movie or something.

PumpkinPastiez · 10/02/2023 20:47

Or if you do decide to let your 'trusted friend' to give you free child care (how kind of you to allow her this privilege)

Send your child with 2 dvds and say 'he can only watch these happy fluffy things whilst you're giving me free childcare. Any deviation and I'll post about you on an internet forum so the daily Mail can stick it on Facebook and you can see how disgusting of a person I think you are...

This is peak for them! I can see it now 'MUM DEVASTATED BY FRIEND LETTING CHILD WATCH FILM'

NeverDropYourMooncup · 10/02/2023 20:48

It was one of mine's favourite film when she was five. She'd already seen the cartoon, so it wasn't too much of a leap from that to the movie - and some kids just love being a little bit scared.

It's certainly a thousand times less scary than fucking Snow Dogs, which had her in tears aged 10.

Aquael · 10/02/2023 20:49

I would absolutely not let my children watch that at 4. Honestly my mind boggles at the people saying they would.

Neither of mine would be interested in that kind of thing at 4 anyways. They'd be begging me to turn it off so they could watch something more fun and appropriate for their age.

Blimey, someone pissed you off! I haven't even spoken to her about it. I'm watching the film to see if it's actually that bad. I asked for opinions on the film before I even said anything. And if it makes a difference I paid her £30 because she's skint and she was doing me a massive favour (OK, she didn't ask me to but it was what I had in my purse and she helped me out).

Nope.

Newmownhaw · 10/02/2023 20:50

No, not suitable.

CantFindTheBeat · 10/02/2023 20:53

There is a scene where a man's tongue is cut out and he's buried alive.

I remember that and I was 25 when I watched it!

JellyKatty · 10/02/2023 20:53

No, not at 4 I don't think.
Definitely wouldn't show it to someone else's child.

underneaththeash · 10/02/2023 20:54

Err no. I wouldn’t let a 10yo watch that.

So, you think that giving free childcare means you have free reign to do whatever you like? Hope you never have the privilege of being asked to babysit!

OP posts:
frenchnoodle · 10/02/2023 20:58

Anyway you need to find out which mummy film it was before reacting.

Flamingogirl08 · 10/02/2023 20:58

Probably not but maybe the 13 year old put it on and friend wasn't paying much attention?

I am pretty lax though and watched IT when I was 4. Films never scared me at all. Good lesson to let him know it's just pretend maybe?

PumpkinPastiez · 10/02/2023 20:58

@TetherEndOfMy you just wait. This will be all over Facebook and the mail and all the other rags. You think she won't know this is about her? Will your friendship survive you posting on the internet about how shit she is?

WonderingWanda · 10/02/2023 20:59

I wouldn not and I certainly wouldn't let someone elses 4 yo. My son was terrified by Scooby Doo at that age and refused to be left alone for ages after one particular episode.

PumpkinPastiez · 10/02/2023 20:59

@TetherEndOfMy being asked to baby sit isn't a Privilege.. she did you a favour you didn't give her a golden handshake
