My second car post of the evening! I am looking for a reliable small car that is value for money.

Which of the following would you buy?

Hyundai i10 - 2019 - 12,000miles - £9500
Corsa - 2019 - 39,000miles - £8500
Toyota Aygo - 2019 - 28,000miles - £9500

I currently drive a Hyundai and like it.
I like the colour of the corsa (blushes)
I have heard Toyota is a v.reliable make.

Which would you go for?

Corsas in my experience are problem after problem (sorry! I bought a car semi-influenced by colour so you have my sympathies, haha)

So it's between the other two - there's not much in it size and power wise (what engine size are they both?), so I'd say the i10 all the way because that's considerably fewer miles.

I'm biased though, I've had two i10s and they were great, reliable, cheap to run cars!

mogsrus · 09/02/2023 21:09

Toyota. have come out top’s again on reliability,I’m driving a Aygo atm. have driven hundreds of top end vehicles Hyundai are really nice, had one for yrs. never dropped a stitch,
Vauxhall nope

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 09/02/2023 21:10

Certainly not the Corsa. Either of the others, but probably whichever had better service history.

Tarkan · 09/02/2023 21:13

The car before our current one was a Corsa and it was a nightmare with how much it ended up costing us.

We have a Mazda now but when the Corsa was written off in an accident we had an i10 as a courtesy car and it's a fab wee car. We actually fitted more into the boot than we expected.

I'd be tempted by that because of the lower mileage but as a PP said, check the service history too.

SamanthaCaine · 09/02/2023 21:14

Hyundai for me.

Corsa is a bag of s#ite in every measurable way. But potentially more engine options.

Aygo is great. Streets ahead of the Corsa but a bit flimsy. As a result the Corsa will feel superficially more solid. Only one engine.

I10 is excellent quality and feels a step up from the Aygo. Only a few engine options but a good steer and lots of standard equipment. Feels solid too.

Hups · 09/02/2023 21:16

Hyundai every time.
I had a Corsa once and once only. I renamed it Costa because it was a never ending paying out for problems.
Similar to a ford escort I had. Ford isn't an acronym for Fix or Repair Daily for nothing.

drpet49 · 09/02/2023 21:16

Toyota

cravingtoblerone · 09/02/2023 21:21

Hyundai definitely. I have an i10 and it's super reliable.

A good point about the flimsy feel of the Aygo - the i10 definitely feels more solid, especially for the size of it. The Aygo feels a bit like a go-kart (albeit a very reliable one!). Although I guess it could feel quite nimble, I've only driven my mum's old one for short journeys.

Hyundai or Toyota.
much of a much. Toyota more prone to car park dents, drive both and chose on toys etc.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 09/02/2023 21:26

Definitely the Hyundai.

I drive an i10 at the moment and previously had a Getz - never had a single issue with either of them. They fly through their MOT's and have never needed any work.

Floralnomad · 09/02/2023 21:26

My sister is on her second I10 , granted she has had both from new but she’s never had any bother with them .

Airplant · 09/02/2023 21:31

No brainer for me Toyota, most reliable make on road.

Also they all come with 10 years / 100,000 warranty even 2nd hand.
"At Toyota we take great pride in the quality, and reliability of our vehicles. This confidence allows us to offer up to 10 years’ warranty* on every new and used car."
www.toyota.co.uk/owners/toyota-warranty

I have had both an Hyundai I10 and I30, Toyota Yaris, Corolla, Rav4 and would swear by Toyota every time now.

Pinkandgreentrousers · 09/02/2023 21:33

Not the corsa, we have the i10, I find the lip on the front seat means I struggle to reach the peddles, I tend to drive our Toyota. Both are very reliable cars.

enweto · 09/02/2023 21:35

Ooh thanks all! Looks like it’s a big Nope for the one I was secretly wanting for superficial reasons!😂 Fortunately the Hyundai and Toyota aren’t far from each other so I can give them a test drive! Really appreciate your advice, I’m a bit useless when it comes to cars generally!

It would have to be the Hyundai based on mileage.

CosyFanTucci · 09/02/2023 22:25

Whichever of the Toyota or Hyundai has been cared for the best. Is the service history complete? Do all the tyres match? Are the wheels kerbed etc. Little signs like that tell you whether the owner is pro is of their car or doesn’t car about it.

StillWantingADog · 09/02/2023 22:26

I’m a big hyundai fan- on my 3rd.

I also previously had a toyota which was a good car.

it was the corsa that was dodgy. So not that one.

Can't get over the high asking prices for all of those tiny cars.

Aygo. I'm looking for one for a similar year/price at the moment but have specific requirements about the colour/model I want, and can't find one 😢

It's my own fault, there were loads just after Christmas and I dithered about too much and now they have all sold.

Marblessolveeverything · 09/02/2023 22:47

Just wondering why the Corsa made your cut? Was it size? You may want to consider an i20 or a Yaris.

I run a car sourcing business with my husband... If you're in the south east pm me, I'll give you our details. We may be able to help...? 🤞

DecommissionedVag · 09/02/2023 22:59

The Hyundai or the Toyota.

I love Aygo's...so much so, I've owned two! Best cars I've had and never had any issues with either of them. They're tiny as well, so fab for parking and for passing on narrow country lanes.

My friend has an i10 and rates it. Plus it has the lowest mileage out of the 3 cars.

I wouldn't go for the Corsa, purely because I've never been keen on Vauxhall's.

I confess… I like the colour! It’s a nice metallic navy whereas the others are white which I’m less keen on. With the slightly cheaper price I wondered if it might still be an okay choice!
Reliability is the most important factor though.
