My second car post of the evening! I am looking for a reliable small car that is value for money.

Which of the following would you buy?

Hyundai i10 - 2019 - 12,000miles - £9500
Corsa - 2019 - 39,000miles - £8500
Toyota Aygo - 2019 - 28,000miles - £9500

I currently drive a Hyundai and like it.
I like the colour of the corsa (blushes)
I have heard Toyota is a v.reliable make.

Which would you go for?

Some useful reading. Hard as it may be to keep looking, be prepared to walk away. £9000 is a lot of money so you need to be 100% happy.

Thank you!

Thanks @SamanthaCaine so glad to have your advice. It is a 68 plate, but was was registered in September 2018. The first service was June 2020.

It hasn’t been taxed since January.

I think because it is ‘Hyundai approved’ I assumed it would all be okay though.

Why could the missing services be a red flag?

Thanks for your help.

No worries. Glad to be of help.

I hate to say it but I'd give that one a miss. Buying used cars is always a gamble but even moreso when they have dodgy service histories.

If the car was registered in September 2018 and first serviced in June 2020, that's 21 months. It should've been serviced in September 2019, October at the very latest. June 2020 is way beyond acceptable.

I mentioned before but 6000 miles isn't much. Over 21 months is really low. If granny miles, an engine won't ever get to temperature where the oil works at its optimum for wear and tear. A lot more wear occurs when the oil is cold and will break down quicker. If it's not changed then you risk wearing the engine prematurely, hence why you can invalidate the warranty. The trouble is, this car has also missed a service in 2022. This is just too risky for me and I'm surprised Hyundai can even sell this as an approved used car.

Do yourself a favour and look at something else. The car might be ok but I'd be gutted for you if the engine failed after 12 months and out of warranty.

Thanks, my current car was inherited from elderly relative and has been a nightmare so definitely want something reliable, above all else.

They can Mot it for you now, it doesn't matter if it's early. I'd ask for it to be mot'ed and serviced before you take it and taxed for the year as well.

It sounds like a good deal, my new to me Hyundai is 2016 plate and has done 34 000 miles, it cost £6400.

Thanks! Yours seems to have the perfect mileage for its age, is it running OK?
