The job description sounded great, was about to send it to a friend until I clocked the salary.

Is it low YANBU
It's a good salary for the level of responsibility YABU

It is a low salary but it’s pretty much entry level, no?

LIZS · 08/02/2023 20:16

Looks ok for an entry level admin role outside major cities

ComtesseDeSpair · 08/02/2023 20:16

It’s an entry level admin / customer service position. The salary isn’t great, but it isn’t unusual for the sort of candidate they’re looking for and the experience they’ll likely have.

EnglishRain · 08/02/2023 20:16

YABU. I don't think it's that bad, the benefits are better than lots of other jobs.

Bubblebubblebah · 08/02/2023 20:17

I was mature student, no way would I deal with students and their issues about student finance for 20k.😂
That pension though! Wowza

FantasticMax · 08/02/2023 20:20

Seems an ok salary to me, not looking for graduates or anything are they? It’s not great but not piss poor. Pension is amazing!

featheryfancy · 08/02/2023 20:23

It's an entry level call centre job.

glasgow1983 · 08/02/2023 20:23

26.6% pension! Gotta consider overall compensation.

Looks like a contact centre agent role with some back office / offline work. Wage + pension is probably quite reasonable.

ghostyslovesheets · 08/02/2023 20:24

Needs 2 gcse's and a good customer service record - it's an entry levels phone job - bet you can progress given time

TerfIngOnTheBeach · 08/02/2023 20:24

Looks like a basic admin job to me. Probably about right, maybe a bit on the low side.

PineappleMel · 08/02/2023 20:26

The public sector just try to big themselves up by calling themselves "officers". No one buys it.

Oblomov23 · 08/02/2023 20:26

26.6% pension is big.

Daffodil77 · 08/02/2023 20:26

28 days is good for entry level. I'd be wanting to know what the split of employee and employer contribution is on that 26.6% pension though.

ComtesseDeSpair · 08/02/2023 20:27

I think the main thing about it is that it’s probably not a job many people stay in for more than a year to a couple of years at most. It would suit somebody young with little or no work experience or somebody returning after a career break who just needs a first base for their CV and a way to brush up their IT and CS skills so they can progress. It’s a “the only way is up” type role.

FitAt50 · 08/02/2023 20:28

I work for SLC and its a fab place. Lots of great promotional opprtunities for good workers and the civil service pension is amazing.

BeardieWeirdie · 08/02/2023 20:29

I live nearby. I’d say it’s better pay than you’d expect for someone with no qualifications beyond gcse around here.

Patapouf · 08/02/2023 20:32

Entry level and in Wales? 20k seems fair

SparklyLeprechaun · 08/02/2023 20:33

It's basically a call centre job.

Passivhaus · 08/02/2023 20:39

Think they have inflated the job title rather than the salary. Would be a decent role to get on your CV when young.

Oysterbabe · 08/02/2023 20:40

I think that's fine for the role.

Isahlo · 08/02/2023 20:42

its low, but you can buy a 2 bed flat in Llandudno for 100-120k so COL maybe less? Idk

ShinyMe · 08/02/2023 20:42

It's bloody depressing that they're being paid the same as me, and my job is much more difficult than that. I deal with student finance people often and the majority of the basic level people are just following a script and have no major responsibility, and get to work their scheduled hours and then leave. I had no idea what they were paid, and assumed it was low because they seem to have very little training or specific skills, and the turnover is really high.

HoneyIShrunkThePizza · 08/02/2023 20:42

Seems fair to me, basically a second job for someone with no degree so perhaps someone 20ish. All they ask for is some call centre experience. And the pension is incredible.

26.6% from the employer and 4.6% from the employee - standard civil service.

Serving themselves. Very nicely.
