AIBU to think this is definitely cancer

i felt a hard firm non moveable lump deep inside my breast 2 weeks ago. I had the referral appointment today had a mammogram and ultrasound and examination. Ultrasound lady said she can rule out it isn’t a cyst and pleased to say it hasn’t spread to the lymph nodes. They did a biopsy and results back and an appointment to discuss end of next week.

Has anyone had a similar experience and it hasn’t been cancer? So a lump that isn’t a cyst but not cancer.

I have three young children and am feeling very worried :-(

Thanks

I had a fibroadenoma.

Minfilia · 08/02/2023 17:39

I had a lump that even my consultant (and head of his department for the region!!) thought was cancer.

It wasn’t, it was completely harmless.

I would add though that even if you get bad news, it doesn’t mean you are getting the worst news. Plenty of people recover and whilst it is difficult in the short term, it doesn’t have to be catastrophic. The fact that your lymph nodes look good is a good sign.

AlwaysAuntie · 08/02/2023 17:39

I don't have any advice, but didn't want to read and run. I personally haven't had any experience, but IF it is cancer then the fact it hasn't spread to lymph nodes is a good thing.

I hope that it isn't cancer 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

CowSnail · 08/02/2023 17:41

Definitely not “definitely cancer”. It could be quite a few things. Fingers crossed, OP.

Paperexcelandpens · 08/02/2023 17:42

Yes I have a fibroadenoma.

Tinkerbyebye · 08/02/2023 17:48

I have had a couple of solid lumps, both benign

Ponoka7 · 08/02/2023 17:52

Mine were thickened tissue etc from breastfeeding. It was scary to be recalled. There were about three of us who were on our second appointments and saw each other afterwards, none of us had cancer. One lady did and a couple of others were still in.

kittycreative · 08/02/2023 17:55

I had an abnormal mammogram , had to attend the hospital. Out of a group of six of us there were just two of us who had to have a biopsy, I was one of them.
They showed me on the screen the area of concern, I had a cancer marker put in and it all turned out to be absolutely nothing of concern, just calcifications.

Please don't panic, I find the hospital staff are very thorough, sometimes too much so but I understand why.

Endofdaysarehere · 08/02/2023 17:56

I have four young children and breast cancer. It’s fine.

You’re lump is probably not cancer but if it is you will deal with it and it will be fine.
promise.

Endofdaysarehere · 08/02/2023 17:59

*your

poetryandwine · 08/02/2023 18:01

I’ve had two benign calcifications which were tiny hard painless lumps.

But you are in a very stressful, vulnerable place I remember well and my heart goes out to you. No lymph involvement is extremely good news, whatever happens next.

Greycatclub · 08/02/2023 18:24

Yes several times! All non cancerous

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 08/02/2023 18:38

Me. Hard, spiky, immovable lump in left breast, near armpit (all classic ‘cancer’ signs). Inconclusive guided cone biopsy and mammogram (but ‘it’s not a cyst’) and a strong history of female cancers in my maternal line meant a lumpectomy and a gentle nod to ‘whilst we can’t yet be sure…’ tone from the consultant.

I thought the same as you but it was benign, thank goodness. Fingers crossed for you.

I’m so sorry. I’m not a survivor yet but I’m determined to be - I’m sure you’ll fight the good fight. There are support groups on Facebook that I found immensely helpful. My phone isn’t allowing me to post flowers, but I’m trying. All the best, OP.

Blixem · 28/02/2023 11:47

So sorry to hear this. I came on to say my mum was told there and then before it was even biopsied that it was cancer.

She had the same as you, it ended up being in 2 lymph nodes and she had a lumpectomy and node clearance, chemo and radiotherapy but she's now 2 years cancer free.

You can do this 😊

RethinkingLife · 28/02/2023 12:37

I hope that you have a clear treatment pathway and that it gets underway quickly.

Gremlinsateit · 28/02/2023 12:41

Best wishes to you OP, and remember survival rates for breast cancer are excellent 💐

Season0fTheWitch · 28/02/2023 12:46

You poor thing, that must've been quite a shock.
As PP said, survival rates are high for breast cancer and as it hasn't spread you're in a good position (as good as you can be, at least).

Do you have real life support?

Josette77 · 28/02/2023 13:14

Sending a big hug. 💐

lljkk · 28/02/2023 13:21

Sorry to hear that, OP. What do you understand about your diagnosis? What are your next steps?

caaamhs · 28/02/2023 13:39

If you're under 45, the Young Breast Cancer Network on FB is great for support. If you're breastfeeding still / your youngest is still under 1yo then Mummy's Star also brilliant. I'm just over 3y since diagnosis while pregnant with my second, it's scary but will feel less scary once you have a plan in place, I promise. You've got this x
