Crying over a year wait for gynecologists

Just that I have other health problems. 61 weeks until I can see a doctor. I'm in floods of tears. Cant even ring them up to check for a cancellation as they don't do them apparently. 😭😭. Just a rant I know it's useless. I hate being a woman sometimes I really do.

I'm so sorry. NHS waiting lists are awful at the moment.

What do you need to see them for and is there any chance you could save up and go private?

Scaredofmynipple · 07/02/2023 11:54

I don't what other options I have left. 😔. Cooking some lunch for the kids while trying to cry silently. Thanks for the kind words.

The whole thing is dire. Can’t seem to find a justification for not offering back cancelled appointments- why not??
sorry you’re going through this, I agree that sometimes (lots of the times really) being a woman is so fucking unfair 🤬

America12 · 07/02/2023 11:57

What do you need to see them for ? Just wondering if anything else could help ?

Not just gynaecology a friend is waiting 18 months for something atm

Scaredofmynipple · 07/02/2023 11:58

Suspected endometriosis. Irregular periods. How would you go private? I've already had some tests so would they need to be related. My GP has done every test possibly on the primary path way apparently.... So now it's pass the buck.

All the specialities are like this not just gynaecology.

Of you are willing to travel have you asked if they can refer you to a different hospital.
Locally waits for gynae review are approx 4-5 months.

A different hospital may have a shorter wait.

beachruns · 07/02/2023 12:01

I'm going through something similar. Suspected endrometrioma - never heard of it!

My DH has private healthcare so I'm trying to sort that but I'm still finding it so frustrating!

Also google seems to suggest that it's a difficult cyst to remove so might mean hysterectomy. Luckily I'm done with having children. Still scary though. You have my sympathy OP.

Scaredofmynipple · 07/02/2023 12:02

How do I do that?

OP posts:
Scaredofmynipple · 07/02/2023 12:04

Thanks for 8% who said I was being unreasonable 😔. Maybe you all have private healthcare and no health problems so this doesn't affect you

Have a look at Benenden Health, it's about £12 a month and then after 6 months they may be able to help without any extra fees

FortyFacedFuckers · 07/02/2023 12:10

I am waiting to see gynaecology for endo as well, got put on a (4 month) waiting list in April 21, it's utterly soul destroying!

LIZS · 07/02/2023 12:12

If you have been allocated a consultant see if you can find them in private practice and arrange an appointment. You may need a gp referral letter but the secretary will give you relevant information such as location, fee and process.

mybrainisbusybeingawesome · 07/02/2023 12:14

Also currently waiting for a gynae appointment for endometriosis. My symptoms are affecting my day to day life now so looking into private. I googled my local spire/bupa and seen they do an endometriosis clinic. I can book in for next week to be seen. My husband has just acquired private health insurance through his employer so will try and see if that covers it.

no insurance will cover a condition that pre-dated the cover

Scaredofmynipple · 07/02/2023 12:14

Thanks 🙏

you can book an appointment with any private gynae on a self-pay basis and take the results of the GP tests with you.

Scaredofmynipple · 07/02/2023 12:15

It hasn't been diagnosed formally though....

hi op - the GP told me I had endo and said a Mirena coil would help - it helped no end. Are you open to trying it?

Also dietary changes - I have to be careful with certain foods as they can be estrogenic and certain things trigger flareups for me, once I'd realised what they were (soy milk, alcohol etc) I cut down a lot and it helped a great deal. Might be worth you investigating your triggers in case you haven't already.

Mumof1andacat · 07/02/2023 12:16

Some private hospitals will allow you to pay directly for an appointment without having private healthcare cover. The local private hospitals for me are the spire and bmi (now known as circle healthcare). Both companies are dotted all over the country. Try and find one local to you and give them a call to see what options are available to you. I would say at a guess, an initial consultation would be around £200

AreBearsCatholic · 07/02/2023 12:17

Beneden isn’t normal insurance and they say they don’t exclude pre-existing conditions

babyjellyfish · 07/02/2023 12:17

If you are in pain, show up at A&E after 11am midweek and ask to be seen.

ethermint · 07/02/2023 12:17

Another thing - I believe it's an excess of oestrogen that can contribute towards it. The liver is responsible for metabolising oestrogen so look at what you can do to support your liver, as it will help a lot.
