Crying over a year wait for gynecologists

Just that I have other health problems. 61 weeks until I can see a doctor. I'm in floods of tears. Cant even ring them up to check for a cancellation as they don't do them apparently. 😭😭. Just a rant I know it's useless. I hate being a woman sometimes I really do.

I have endometriosis, adenomyosis, a dermoid cyst and a large endometrioma

In pain and bleeding every day! 8 months in to a year long waiting list for gynaecologist

It's rubbish OP, you have my sympathies

My DD is waiting to see a paediatrician and that's also over a year waiting list

Scaredofmynipple · 07/02/2023 12:20

Hi hopefully wanted another child so the coil wouldn't be an option alas ducky. But I can try and keep a food diary. I did have a hormone check but the GP says one thing and the other doctor says another..I have a slightly high b12 for example..

My colleague had similar issues and went private with no health insurance. The initial NHS contact from the NHS to set up a first consultation eventually came through after she'd had the hysterectomy privately. I don't know how much it cost. She and her husband have a modest income, but she doesn't deny it was worth doing.

It hasn't been diagnosed formally though....

then you'll need to be prepared to pay for the laparoscopy privately....

Beneden isn’t normal insurance and they say they don’t exclude pre-existing conditions

they also won't treat her in the first 6m of membership........ www.benenden.co.uk/health/healthcare/nhs-wait-time/

How do I support my liver?

OP posts:

I feel for you, I have endo and know how painful and debilitating it can be. My daughter has suspected endo, which they prescribed the mirena coil - it hasnt worked as well as it did form me. Last week she was told by the gynae sept ar her hospital that she has to wait for at least 18 months for an laparoscopic / laser surgery.

We are thinking of going private. We will have to dig into our savings, but we can't sit by and watch her suffer cramps, flooding, water infections etc every month. So far we've been quoted an average of £3.5K.

I hope you get something sorted soon xx

best to ignore daft advice like that........other than not drinking to excess, your liver works just fine on its own

Northernlurker · 07/02/2023 12:25

If you want another child in three years then get a cool anyway and have it removed when you're ready. Putting it in is not fun but neither are gynaecology investigations. If less than that time I would think about bringing the timescale to try forwards.

2023b · 07/02/2023 12:25

Hi OP. I am in the exact same position as you. Feel free to PM me. Sorry you are in this crappy position too.

RedDoughnut · 07/02/2023 12:27

@monitor1 Benenden isn't typical private health care, it can cover pre existing conditions. It doesn't do cardio or cancer but pretty much everything else is possible and you get private GP cover from day one

Metabigot · 07/02/2023 12:27

Mumof1andacat · 07/02/2023 12:16

Some private hospitals will allow you to pay directly for an appointment without having private healthcare cover. The local private hospitals for me are the spire and bmi (now known as circle healthcare). Both companies are dotted all over the country. Try and find one local to you and give them a call to see what options are available to you. I would say at a guess, an initial consultation would be around £200

Yes, most will let you self pay, it ain't cheap tho at least 200 for an initial consultation I'd have thought, if not more.

A coil would be my idea of a nightmare I hate using a Tampax!!! So that's a no go!

Have a look at Benenden Health, it's about £12 a month and then after 6 months they may be able to help without any extra fees

They wont treat existing problems

saraclara · 07/02/2023 12:39

I've been put on a waiting list for cardiology. It's 60 weeks. 60 weeks to find out if I have a heart condition.

I've become the world's worst lefty hypocrite. I paid £200 to see someone. I phoned and got an appointment next day.
The only thing I comfort myself with is that I saw him at the private arm of my local NHS hospital, and all profits from the private clinic go to the hospital.

I'm very fortunate to be able to find the £200. I would be in bits otherwise.

WhyDoesItAlways · 07/02/2023 12:40

I have endo, diagnosed from a laparoscopy during fertility treatment. The coil is an absolute game changer, you can have it removed when you want to start trying to conceive. I would get it done while you wait for your gynae appointment as it may save you a lot of pain. It's nothing like using Tampax. It's similar to a smear test, a quick 10 minute procedure and then you can forget about it until you're ready to have it removed.

It is seriously worth it, endometriosis is awful.

Then it’s very wrong of them to say that they will on their website

Trying for a kid now so not an option. Would the consult recommend a laparoscopy. If so would then be on the NHS waiting list for it? It's all confusing

OP posts:
ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 07/02/2023 12:43

My DH has been waiting a similar amount of time for a Gastro appointment, he keeps having it extended as well, it's a fucking nightmare.

Notjusta · 07/02/2023 12:43

As you have already been referred to a consultant by your GP, you can call the consultant's secretary and ask if you can be seen as a private patient. The secretary may not manage his private work but will definitely know who does and can put you in touch with them. As PP have said, it will be about £200 for an initial consultation.

Good luck.

Scaredofmynipple · 07/02/2023 12:44

So how did it work. You got the treatment after your consultation?

only a laparoscopy can diagnose endometriosis so you'd need to be prepared to pay for that privately too - appt on its own not much use.

If you can afford to pay for the laparoscopy then you could have it done privately then, but if not the consultant can refer you back in to the NHS for the procedure. The consultant's private secretary will be able to tell you costs if that's what is recommended.

I am aware in the past people have 'jumped the queue' for NHS procedures having had an initial private consult, but with things they way they are in the NHS right now this may no longer be happening.
