To think Netflix offerings are poor?

I seem to have watched everything worth watching on Netflix. Now all I see is films and programmes that are just junky. Even scrolling through New on Netflix shows only dross. And they do not have many classic films, so there is not even that option to fall back on.
Netflix subscribers have fallen because the offering is so poor.

I tend to do a couple of months at a time. 2 months of Netflix is generally enough to catch up on anything on there I want to watch, then I'll cancel and do Disney+ for a couple of months, catch up on my Star Wars and Marvel stuff, then HBO max etc. Usually swing back to Netflix every 8 months or so. Cheaper than juggling all the different services at once and means I never struggle to find something to watch.

User137290646 · 06/02/2023 14:43

Yes, I agree, I cancelled it as there was nothing to watch, I started several things but a lot of it was not very good, I doubt I will go back for a long time now. I have all the other streaming services and Sky, Netflix was the worst so not worth the £10.99 a month, I didn't want the cheaper one with adverts or SD picture

FrostyFifi · 06/02/2023 14:47

I'm not finding them great any more either, tbh. I'll start to watch things and they just won't grab me. I've also got a Now subscription and every series I've chosen to watch on there has been brilliant - I know it's not their content but it's good to have access to things like HBO shows for that price.

RustySprings · 06/02/2023 14:55

They do occasionally buy in content - even from UK broadcasters like the BBC. And they commision stuff too. But I agree it's not enough. The impact of Covid is a good point - and also the drop in subscriptions generally ( cost of living etc ) will have affected their budgets.

FunnyItWorkedLastTime · 06/02/2023 14:57

I think that where Netflix excels nowadays is in the international content. So if you don't do subtitles it might not be for you.

EarringsandLipstick · 06/02/2023 15:01

I agree. Interesting re Now TV & my DD keeps wanting Disney. My DB has almost all of them so is constantly watching something interesting.

Netflix offerings - their own content - is really poor: I just watched all of Deadline while cleaning the house & it was really quite rubbish.

I think the solution from PPs to switch regularly is a good one. I'm just a bit too lazy / busy to do it.

The other point is that NF is easy to watch on TV (we don't have a smart TV) esp for the kids - I rarely watch it on TV.
I know I can get around that by using a laptop + HDMI cable, it just seems a hassle.

One thing I do enjoy & it's great as it's free is Channel 4's app. I never watch it on TV but there are great series on the app, some from a while ago. I still watch it with ads, I don't find them that annoying, but I might subscribe to the ad-free version (you get a month free).

I see Sex/Life series 2 is due on NF soon. I it's basically soft porn but I do want to see it anyway.

I will also say that people who like foreign language content (and NF must have I think 30% European content be allowed operate within EU) say there's great material - I hate having to read subtitles so I don't really watch. I tried Women At War (French) but it was depressing and tedious so gave up.

Finally, I really wish we could access iPlayer in Ireland! If you miss something live, there's no way to see it again. The DC are used to me screeching to check the recording is set for whatever Sunday evening drama is on.

FunnyItWorkedLastTime · 06/02/2023 15:02

It is quite young adulty I agree. The things on my list are Lockwood&Co, Umbrella Academy, Lupin, Troll and RRR, all of which are either YAish or subtitled.

EarringsandLipstick · 06/02/2023 15:03

Out of interest (and laziness 😌) how does Netflix compare with other subscriptions? I pay €12.99 pm at present which allows 2 (or is it 3?) devices to access it

NotAnotherBathBomb · 06/02/2023 14:19

I’ll be cancelling my subscription when they bring in the ban on password sharing which, despite not sharing my password, would affect me and make using it more if a faff eg having to sign in every 30 days and complicating watching stuff on my tablet outside of my home like when I’m visiting friends/family and travelling abroad.

Yes this, I have cancelled mine anyway but if not I would have when this came in as I pay for just me to use it but I would have to log in each month to prove it's me as I watch TV a lot away from home on my iPad.

Eleganz · 06/02/2023 15:09

Definitely going down hill compare to other platforms. I think they have been outbid for lots of good things by organisations with deeper pockets.

Oblomov23 · 06/02/2023 15:10

Agreed, poor. And also agree that it's hit us now that little was filmed during covid.

Sheldoncoopersspot · 06/02/2023 15:12

Have you googled the codes? eg 11714 is tv dramas.

AmillionReasons · 06/02/2023 15:13

Yes, I agree with you op. I used to find so much to watch on Netflix. I watched Four Good Days recently which is the first decent thing on there I've found in awhile.
Lately I've been scrolling through and not finding anything, then diverting to Prime Video/Disney etc. It makes me consider whether to end the contract as it's money down the drain atm.

AllOutofEverything · 06/02/2023 15:15

Anything I see now I see that is good I can already watch on iplayer or channel 4.
I had thought of cancelling it before but kept it on for the latest series of The Crown, which was rubbish. A total disappointment.
I agree about a lot of it being quite tweeny or teenagey.

Anyone with Tesco Clubcard points, you can get Disney+ with those, sometimes they do an offer on it so you get more months for your points. At the moment it's £8 points for 3 months, sometimes it's £8 points for 6 months, or £6 points for 3 months.

seratoninmoonbeams · 06/02/2023 15:17

Every single time I got to cancel Now TV they offer me 6 months at £5pm so I put a reminder in my calendar to do that every time. Netflix sometimes do similar but as a PP said. If you're fed up with it. Cancel for a bit and then rejoin later probably with a decent price.

SecretVictoria · 06/02/2023 15:19

I only got it as I had a week of leave, DH was working and I was bored. Got it mainly for Top Boy. Last series this year so will probably cancel after that.

EmmiJay · 06/02/2023 15:20

Recently they've added this Understated/underrated (🤣) selection of films and its been wonderfully entertaining. I watched a Greek film called Green Sea yesterday. Brilliant!

EarringsandLipstick · 06/02/2023 15:22

@seratoninmoonbeams

That's interesting. I must try this.
(I remember going to cancel my subscription to the Sunday Times & similarly they offered me a package for €5 which covered Sunday Times & The Times weekday edition which was great)

Ilovemycatalot · 06/02/2023 15:24

Just waiting for new series of top boy then I’m cancelling

MagpiePi · 06/02/2023 15:24

I’m a bit tired of Netflix and seem to get mostly subtitled film recommendations. No use to me when I’m trying to do my knitting!

verdantverdure · 06/02/2023 15:27

I think we're going to cancel Netflix because we keep going to it, searching for about 15 minutes then end up watching something on iplayer of TVX instead.

Five of the last ten things I started on Netflix I gave up on. Two of the ones we finished I wasn't impressed with, two were rewatches I'd seen before, and one was actually good. That's not a good success rate.

We'll try other things for a couple of months here and there and see what's out there.

BrambleyHedge · 06/02/2023 15:28

It depends what you like. I like Korean drama so have loads to watch.

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 06/02/2023 15:29

The korean stuff it so good. I like zombie stuff and they do some outstanding shows in the genre

Kingdom is absolutely amazing.

ThisWOMANWontWheesht · 06/02/2023 15:29

Agree Netflix has lost its shine somewhat. We have, over the years, watched some awesome series (serieses?) on there: Breaking Bad, Squid Game, Stranger Things, Ozark, Dark and Narcos amongst others, but will probably give it a rest for a while soon. As soon as we've finished Better Call Saul!

Will probably try Now after that.
