Would you wear this? What with on top? Is it ok for an outdoor restaurant/bar, sells pizza and bubbly etc?

I’d wear them with a bodysuit and an oversized blazer.

That's a good idea. maybe wear a heatgen top or something similar. and take a nice shawl/pashmina to drape artfully and keep you warm at the same time
Can you tell I hate being cold Grin

MuddlerInLaw · 05/02/2023 12:49

I’m fond of the S&B board - but I struggle to understand threads like this! Surely on any given night hundreds of thousands of people will be eating and drinking in pubs and pizza places? They won’t all be consulting each other on the correct thing to wear - what would be the problem with just wearing what you like?

Is it a date? If so, I’d wear whatever’s appropriate (ie not a ball gown or a City suit) that best represents you - with perhaps a little ‘extra’ grooming. If it’s a group of friends or family - just wear clothes!

AnnaMagnani · 05/02/2023 12:49

In London this would be normal.

In Liverpool it would not - found this out the hard way.

Dancingwithabroomstick · 05/02/2023 12:52

@DashboardConfessional Sounds nice 💜big hair how though?

Yes! I once travelled from London for a friends birthday lunch in Reading in a chain Tex-Mex place. They refused to let me in as I was wearing jeans (with heeled boots and a nice top and blazer). No argument would derail the 'bouncer' (at 1pm on a Saturday?!) so I had to go and have lunch alone in Pret until friend and party were finished.

Dancingwithabroomstick · 05/02/2023 12:55

@MuddlerInLaw Not a date but I have toddler twins and haven’t been out at night in almost three years 🙈I’m out of the game, so thought I’d ask 🤷🏻‍♀️
I wear leggings/jeans and trainers daily, so wasn’t sure if wearing them on a night out was lacking effort a bit

I personally wouldn’t wear converse. I’d wear jeans and boots and a nice top with a jacket.

MuddlerInLaw · 05/02/2023 12:58

@Dancingwithabroomstick what would you like to wear?

FunnyItWorkedLastTime · 05/02/2023 12:59

At this time of year, outdoors, I'd borrow one of DD's brightly coloured fake fur coats and wear it over a plain heatgen top. I'd also think carefully about converse, which have very thin soles, and ideally go for thick soled trainers instead.

IsThePopeCatholic · 05/02/2023 13:04

wear whatever you want - especially in London. Nobody cares what anyone’s wearing. It’s great. None of the silly dressing up you see in other British cities.

CottonSock · 05/02/2023 13:04

It's not exclusively a London thing though is it? I live in a city and everyone dresses down except hen dos.

MuddlerInLaw · 05/02/2023 13:07

FWIW, at this time of year I’d probably wear a deep v necked cashmere or Shetland sweater with a long straight skirt (wool or leather maybe) and ankle boots. If outside I’d add a beanie in a fabulous colour.

But I’m old and tend to the dressier end of the spectrum. Completely uninterested in trainers in the middle of Winter!

MavisMcMinty · 05/02/2023 13:08

What’s a “converse” please?

What’s a “converse” please?

If you google it you will see lots of pictures. A popular brand of shoe.

MavisMcMinty · 05/02/2023 13:13

Ah, thanks, googled, and we used to call them “bumpers” when I was young.

BethDuttonsTwin · 05/02/2023 13:14

I would yes, but mine are silver glittery converse! 😁

This is SO true. My friends live in various Midlands and Northern cities and used to agonise about what to wear for a night out here thinking it world be even more glam. I always assured them that no one cares and no one is looking. It’s great and makes for a far more relaxing night out.

MavisMcMinty · 05/02/2023 13:19

The first time I went to see an opera I’d just read that all the cool people dress down for the opera, so went in my usual jeans. My sister told me “dressing down for the opera means leaving your tiara at home”. Oops!

Diddelydi · 05/02/2023 13:25

@MavisMcMinty
Ha ha 🤣

Comewithmefriday · 05/02/2023 13:25

Plenty of people dress up full on in London, think it depends on age and venue

Converse is a brand of trainer.
I'm intrigued where you live that they get called bumpers.
I used to call them plimsolls. IMO trainers are a bit more substantial than Converse.

I find Converse too flat, unsupportive and uncomfortable.

MuddlerInLaw · 05/02/2023 13:43

You can wear what you like to the opera. Hmm

The creators and performers won’t care - they’ll just be glad you paid for a ticket and left your house to be part of the audience.

MavisMcMinty · 05/02/2023 13:49

It was at boarding school in the 1970s, @RampantIvy ! And plimsolls were called “pumps”.

MavisMcMinty · 05/02/2023 13:51

And I also find bumpers very uncomfortable, too flat, as you say.

Jeans and converse in London is probably on the verge of overdressing for a beer and pizza night! Makes sure you ankles are nice and warm and have an extremely warm coat!!

Aye cos Londoners famously all dress like tramps.
