Doctors ignoring me for a year and now it's come to this

Laurawharton · 05/02/2023 03:46

Aibu to think I should go to a and e tomorrow (really don't want to as I know they are busy) or just face the fact that no one cares
Had a lump appear by my eye last Christmas. I thought it was a spot until it didn't move for 3 months so phoned the doctors who wouldn't see me face to face but told me that it would need to be off in a strict 6 month time scale if it's not gone by then. 6 months later I phoned to say it's still there and now larger. I had a different doctor who basically said 'and why are you telling us that go private it's cosmetic'. Phoned again to get a face to face as everyone was screaming cancer at me, finally got a face to face and told they don't know what it is but yeah go private to have it off or join a over 2 year waiting list.
Anyway about a month ago it grew big again so phoned them as I was concerned as it's so close to my eye and was starting to mess with my vision and give me headache and that side of my face kept going numb. They said they referred me but still heard nothing. Now it's the size of a golf ball red and angry closing up half my eye. Swollen both my eye lid and my under eye. Painful as hell I Carnt sleep don't want to eat, put it this way I was a size 16 now even size ten is a bit big on me. I Carnt sleep properly, people keep staring at me when I go out so I no longer want to leave the house. I saw the doctor again and all he said was he will send fresh pictures along to my referral.
I don't know what to do I'm scared I'm going to blind in one eye due to the pressure and I'm not sure how my face will now look after it's gone if they ever get round to it. How long can they leave me in this much pain.
Is it worth just going down a and e and seeing if they will do anything? my partner has already stopped me twice from taking matters into my own hands aka self removal. My thinking was if I mess up they will have to something, I know it's not the right thing to do but I'm so scared and in so much pain.

This is awful. When you are up to it, please write a letter of complaint to the practice manager.

Userblue · 05/02/2023 07:58

It would be easier to advise if you have a picture of the lump (obviously not your face just lump!)

OP said it’s made her vision blurry, it’s the size of a golf ball and half her face is numb. What would you do?

MinnieMountain · 05/02/2023 05:47

Taxi there and your DH picks you up afterwards?

Not everyone can afford a taxi.

mommatoone · 05/02/2023 08:17

Gosh that sounds awful Op. Sorry to hear youve had to go through this. Definitely go to a&e . Failing that, could you ring opticians today for urgent appointment?. Mine are open Sundays, i know its not like that everywhere. At least they can make a referral for you to the eye hospital. Hope you get sorted.

Goldandpurplezebra · 05/02/2023 08:22

This sounds quite worrying. Do whatever you can to get seen by a doctor. 111 or a&e. Your GP sounds awful.

Yabado · 05/02/2023 08:23

If you have an Eye Hospital near you go there straight away .
They have an emergency A& E
The one where I live was fantastic when my DH had a detached retina last year and saw him straight away and the next day had surgery

Nogg · 05/02/2023 08:23

I work in NHS and find this difficult to believe tbh.

Really? Why on earth would OP make this up?

Lapland123 · 05/02/2023 08:25

You’ve already tried GP, they have referred you on as appropriate and have suggested new photos to add to the referral. There’s no more they can do.

you need to make attending A&E your priority today, ideally an 👁️ one.

Yabado · 05/02/2023 08:25

The one where my DH went to have a triage system and with what you have said I think you would be seen straight away
I can’t believe you have waited this long
but good luck
I couldn’t fault the NHS / Eye hospital for my DH
They have been fab

Passportpondery · 05/02/2023 08:27

Has a GP actually seen you face to face and looked at it? If not I would be there at opening on Monday and demand to be seen.

Oblomov22 · 05/02/2023 08:27

Sounds nasty. On Monday, you need to ring GP, be more proactive, more firm, has a referral been made, why has it not been chased /followed up. Please chase now. I'd be unhappy and I'd tell them so. Tell them you've been repeatedly fobbed off. I'd probably pay to go and see someone privately, eg at the Eye hospital.

I don't.

I've had severe headaches to the extent they make me immobile and vomit, at its worst 25 days out of 30, rapidly degenerative eyesight. It has taken 3.5 years to get anywhere near an MRI let alone a neurologist. It could be a brain tumour for all they know, obviously I hope that it isn't.

The NHS is In a terrible state.

I'm so sorry you've been treat like this OP. Do know that some people care, we certainly do.

Get yourself to A&E who can make the necessary referrals there and then. I wouldn't hesitate.

OrangePurple · 05/02/2023 08:30

Can you upload a photo of your eye? My DH has a medical background and will tell you exactly what to say

Oblomov22 · 05/02/2023 08:30

You are Midlands? I'd go to A&E now. At least it will be noted on your nhs file, and hopefully trigger a referral.

Oblomov22 · 05/02/2023 08:32

This is all so sad. NHS straining. A&E now put under pressure, when if it had been handled properly, op would've been seen under normal nhs process, GP refers etc.

lljkk · 05/02/2023 08:34

Something came up that quick, sounds like a terrible eye infection, abscess, will need antibiotics & draining. I hope OP gets there soon.

lljkk · 05/02/2023 08:36

ah nuts, I forgot about thread title, in February when OP said "last Christmas", I thought she meant Xmas 2022, not 2021. Please update us when you can. x

Crumpetdisappointment · 05/02/2023 08:38

i would go to opticians.
they can refer you to correct eye department

Nogg · 05/02/2023 08:23

I work in NHS and find this difficult to believe tbh.

I don't. 10+ years (I'm only 36) of telling GP's I'm in pain and cracking with my hips to constantly be told "it's one of those things" "have some paracetamol" "do Pilates"
Finally a GP has listened and had X-rays and bloods done. I have hip dysplasia in both hips causing the debilitating pain (and some funky kidney results but that's being repeated and checked)

I don't find it difficult to believe at all that OP has been fobbed off. I hope you're ok OP

I don't. A few GPS (not the majority, but enough) are fucking shocking. And keep getting away with appalling lack of service.

For future reference you can see a private GP for not too much money. Maybe £70 plus. At least that way you could have been seen properly and would know what you are dealing with.

I feel like the GPs you have interacted with will have given you more information than you are telling us. Did they say if they thought it was a cyst?

I'd have called 111 rather than A and E as they might have made an appointment with a eye doctor?

Sadly some people don't have money lying around for a taxi and yes, some people care for disabled children. That on top if you implying that OP is lying about her eye condition makes this a pretty heartless post.

Another person implying that the OP is lying. Why would you do this?
