Snoring on flight in business class

Blip · 03/02/2023 20:22

I have never flown business class so am curious as to what happens if someone snores loudly on a night flight so other people cannot sleep?
If I had paid thousands for a flight I wouldn't be happy for someone to be snoring loudly.
But if I was a loud snorer it's not like I could stop unless forceably kept awake.

How does this work? Looking for answers from flight crew or business class regulars....

Don’t worry the name then sit outside

In business class you’re not so near your neighbours on long haul flights. the little bed walls do quite a lot in disrupting sound waves. Plus the very loud engine, free booze on tap and ear plugs, the snoring tends to zone out.

when I’ve flown long haul in 1st class, my head has been encompasses by a pillow any my own little bed unit, with white noise and special ear plugs in. It’s very different to sleeping immediately next to DH when he has a cold and has been drinking red wine.

Twinsforthewin · 03/02/2023 21:56

It's on a plane, they don't have special separate quiet engines for business 😂 drink all the free booze and you won't care 😝

FanGurrl · 03/02/2023 22:15

Ok, so if a passenger is snoring really loudly in an otherwise quiet cabin (newer jets tend to be quieter), I have been known to walk past and 'accidentally' bump the side of their seat. This tends to be enough to make most people stir and stop for a while.
Otherwise yep, earplugs and noise cancelling headphones for those sitting around the offender.

Justellingthetruth · 03/02/2023 22:18

@Blip

none issue

I wondered if the snorer would be woken up every time

I don't think so. DH says I snore like a train. I've flown club loads (on business) without ever being woken up.

I'm pretty sure I would have been snoring. Sigh.

trinibrit · 03/02/2023 22:46

In business class there is a socket into which I can plug my cpap machine. Nobody even blinks at you sleeping in the mask. People are too busy trying to sleep themselves.

BashfulClam · 03/02/2023 22:53

Is it just me that can’t bear earplugs. I can hear myself breathing and swallowing so clearly it’s impossible to sleep.

They open the exit doors and chuck them out

😂

MrsPinkCock · 03/02/2023 23:29

I fly first semi regularly with work and it’s not an issue.

Someone would have to be exceptionally loud to snore over the engine noise, and I have noise cancelling headphones, ear plugs and an eye mask so I wouldn’t even notice it.

CharlotteRose90 · 03/02/2023 23:49

I would rather be next to a snorer then a screaming child. A snorer you can just about zone out too whereas a baby pierces your eardrums even with ear plugs in. I’d also rather take a snorer over a farter, I came back from the states last year and the whole flight back there was a guy letting them rip. It was like he’d eaten something dead, luckily the fight wasn’t full so the people next to him moved.

Interesting. So those of you who fly business class regularly find this a non issue?

Absolutely. In fact I can’t recall ever hearing someone snore. But if your in a proper flat bed is like a cocoon and not much that’s going on around you bothers you.

MichaelKeaton · 04/02/2023 00:08

I’m a bit muddled. What are you worried about OP? That your H may currently be disturbing people in business class with his snorts? Or is it a flight he’s already taken?

Planes are pretty loud, most people wear headphones or earplugs.

If his snoring is disturbing you at home though, he needs to do something. It’s selfish.

Smells like teen spirit. Stop posting people.

oh i am bad for farting when in the air, even when avoiding everything they say to avoid, i bloat like fuck and fart regardless

Me too, my stomach swells terribly despite changing into loose gear for the flight. I turn the little air vents on full when going to sleep, just so it disperses quickly and away from me!

I’m booked later this year and going to ask the doc if there is anything I can take…

You booked a plane seat, not a hotel suite.

This is always the thing that makes me feel I could never shell out for business. It's 1000s of pounds and yet you are buying a tiny space and no real privacy. In any other situation it wouldn't feel fancy. You're really just paying not to be as uncomfortable.

thaegumathteth · 04/02/2023 00:52

Dh flies business all the time and is a terrible snorer and he hasn't been launched out the plane yet

There is a good amount of privacy when you’re cocooned in your flat bed.

And not being uncomfortable is well worth the money.

It's a non issue. People snore. Even on flights.

This!

If it got me there quicker I would pay but I like plane food, don't drink alcohol when I fly and watch whatever on the screen

Sure more leg room but I am short so I can't think of anything else worth paying extra for, the cabin pressure is still the same

Spiderboy · 04/02/2023 01:18

It doesn’t really matter what you paid. It is not a private plane. Take earbuds

Proudofitbabe · 04/02/2023 01:24

God, I'm with you. Some bloke snored like a warthog through my last Ryanair economy flight and I'd have happily thrown him off!

AllOutofEverything · 04/02/2023 01:57

I have never heard anyone snore in economy. Unless I was the snorer!

AllOutofEverything · 04/02/2023 01:59

I think people would be more likely to snore in business because you are lying down and more likely to be drinking alcohol. In economy sitting up makes snoring less likely.

Hoistupthemainsail · 04/02/2023 03:46

The hum drum noise of the plane blocks a lot of he noise. I love sleeping in business class on a 14 hour flight.
