Just this. Every day negativity. No one is happy with life or working conditions. The country is at an all time low. Living standards getting worse by the day people getting poorer. I know we are not in poverty like some countries but honestly can’t see us ever returning to decent living standards unless you’re the few top percent earners. Tell me I’m being dramatic perhaps I am but can’t see much of a way back from this .

The UK is becoming like America, in that the people who actually work to support society (teachers, nurses, people in various other service jobs) aren't able to be part of the society the support. Their work makes the things that matter, but they can't get back any of what they give. Meanwhile, people with family money who get made up job titles so they can sit at a desk sending 3 emails a day and wanking over how privileged they are get everything just by being born rich. Most of them can't even spell, except third person pronouns which they're somehow obsessed with..

AllOutofEverything · 02/02/2023 17:03

@moksorineouimoksori on the contrary I know the difference between South and North Korea, where they are geographically and I understand the increasing tensions. I know how traditional South Korea is and this the issue of male violence alongside a feminist movement, and the dictatorship of North Korea and how tightly controlled people are.

Those who recognise what a mess the UK are in are largely those who do read news and understand what is happening in other countries. Those that do not are more easily fooled by propaganda.

Sweden has all sorts of problems (announced this week):

House price crash of 16% year on year.
Bankruptcies up 47% year on year, with a 44% drop in construction.
GDP expected to fall 0.7%.
Unemployment expected to rise to 7.8% in 2023 and 8.2% in 2024.

That is on top of the ongoing issues with the "new Swedes" which I was unlucky enough to experience on my weekly trips to the Malmo and Stockholm regions pre lockdown. I thought Husby and Kista were bad until I went to Malmo. The final straw was when a young man was shot outside our hotel on evening, luckily he survived.

I did a masters in Sweden many moons ago. I remember very well a lot of what and places you've mentioned. I went to Kista once. It was at the end of a line I think and as I got off the train it almost began to remind me of parts of London. Couple of years later the very first explosive was let off near Gamla Stan or so.

The BM are a tool used by the British government and BRF to condition the minds of the BP.

So you'll find those who say every other country is going through what we're going through in the UK and the government is doing well will also say the RF work very hard and should be given as much benefits as they wish/they are entitled to it all while nurses and teachers use food banks and we remain yours truly, proudly British!

Breadcrumbsforall · 02/02/2023 17:05

Bad news predictions always sell more newspapers than good ones. I don't think we're on our knees, absolutely not.

CheshireCat1 · 02/02/2023 17:05

It’s just cyclical, things will improve and life will get better. Times like this just help people to realise what their real priorities are.

littlestrawberryhat · 02/02/2023 17:06

It's awful...I'm ashamed to be from here. You can thank the Brexit voters for all of this. To quote Will Self, 'not all Brexiters are racist, but almost all racists will be voting for Brexit'. I expect the YABU are both conservative and brexit supporters and are in defensive denial about what they've done for the country. It's a total shambles. Anyways can you tell how much I hate this country and it's people??

TonTonMacoute · 02/02/2023 16:50

Do you never read the European news OP?

I'm not saying this country isn't a mess but things are just as bad over there, worse in some countries.

It's weird to lump the whole of Europe in together. I live in Europe as I've said upthread and the cost of living here is patently lower, yet the quality of life is much higher and our public services are great (and our universities here are free). Saying 'things are just as bad over there' is too random a statement - Europe has a lot of different countries in it who are having vastly different experiences. Where we are, 'things are just as bad' is just an out and out lie.

JamSandle · 02/02/2023 17:06

There are real problems but lots of stuff is misery porn.

moksorineouimoksori · 02/02/2023 17:06

AllOutofEverything, good! I thought you were so disparaging about the country because you had it confused with NK.

Lifeomars · 02/02/2023 17:07

I retired almost 2 years ago, did all my calculations and thought I would be ok, bills would be covered, a small amount of savings as a cushion and to have a holiday and have some work done on my house. All ruined now, I am paying twice as much to have the heating on for half as long, food is astronomical, I have cut back on everything and I feel so sorry for young families having to pay rent/mortgage, child care. I lived through the 70's and this is way worse. Brexit has destroyed this country, robbed our young people of their future. I think that we will try to rejoin the E U but I won't live to see it. We need a general election as a matter of urgency, won't happen of course, this lot will go to the wire as they know they are done for

Emotionalstorm · 02/02/2023 17:09

I think that people are judging Rishi really unfairly. It is unfair to blame him for any problems that preceded his premiership since he wasn't in charge. He should be given a chance and a blank slate as of the date he became PM. And if you compare now Vs 100 days ago you'll see that he's done a lot to stabilise the UK economy. The sterling has stopped free falling and our pension funds are safe. We should be giving him the benefit of doubt.

NotAgainFrederick · 02/02/2023 17:10

Sunak is nit as bad as Truss true. But by god that is a low bar.

Intrepidescape · 02/02/2023 17:10

You’re not being dramatic. But this isn’t something new. I live in Australia and there has always been a saying about the poms whinging.

I do think it would be awful to live in the UK. In summer most houses are boiling and in winter everything is wet and you can’t dry your clothes properly.

So many of you have moved to my city.

I just think that it's not fair that there is so much prejudice against him when he inherited the country in such a bad state and is obviously not in it for money. He is not responsible for the state we are in and he's doing his best.

moksorineouimoksori · 02/02/2023 17:13

Intrepidescape not to mention that you've got no chance on those occasions where it decides to snow

I think theTories know that they're going to lose the next election and are determined to burn everything to the ground to hand Labour a poisoned chalice.
That and getting as much money out of the Treasury as they can.

@beguilingeyes that’s what I think too.

London is good. I know many Aussies who moved here. I did too. Horses for courses and all that.

Crikeyalmighty · 02/02/2023 17:17

@IMustDoMoreExercise absolutely ludicrous blaming someone from 13 years ago and if I remember correctly at that time working tax credits still applied. Anything can be changed . On the other hand to balance this the Tory's brought in being able to get your hands on your pension including large lump sums at 55 - hence you have a ton of 55 to 64 year olds who thought sod this im out (understandable) and an awful lot of non working 55 plus (I'm 61 so know lots) -

That is not the own you think it is. Germany are going through the same demographic struggles and is taking positive action and investing in its future.

He has good policies. And he certainly can't be worse than labour.

Crikeyalmighty · 02/02/2023 17:23

The crux is Their are big issues that apply to everywhere mainly covid, and Ukraine, also more automation in some jobs- the UK on top of this has Brexit. No one else has that situation (self enforced too) Yes other countries like USA are independent but the USA is effectively its own EU - it doesn't have the issue that Florida can't sell to california without considerable hoo ha etc. it has a big enough market for products and goods to maintain a strong manufacturing sector just for North America. Exports are a bonus. Here the market isn't big enough in many sectors for large scale manufacturing if it's only for the UK market.
