To think the uk is on its knees

Just this. Every day negativity. No one is happy with life or working conditions. The country is at an all time low. Living standards getting worse by the day people getting poorer. I know we are not in poverty like some countries but honestly can’t see us ever returning to decent living standards unless you’re the few top percent earners. Tell me I’m being dramatic perhaps I am but can’t see much of a way back from this .

Seriously! Have you met Kwasi Kwarteng?
Not to mention Alexander de Pfeffel "Fuck business" Johnson.
If the Tories cared about business they wouldn't have taken us out of the Single Market.

AllOutofEverything · 03/02/2023 23:10

This government do not understand economics and seem to care even less.

NoLemonNoMelon · 03/02/2023 23:19

This is interesting! Do you think it's because Sweden didn't have harsh lockdownds during Covid? Here, we had lockdowns to 'Save the NHS', and I am not sure that we did save it ...

mylifestory · 03/02/2023 23:54

Most countries rin the same boat.

Of course if we all voted la our it wd be instantly better overnight. Wot exactly do ppl think labour r going to do??

RachaelN · 03/02/2023 23:54

YANBU. Tbh it's really shit. We are bare to the bone ATM. We have no heating, no double glazing. I'm struggling to fill the fridge. I've just run out of firewood.
I have two kids and I'm just so worried they will always feel cold and hungry because I can't give them enough.

You sound like Prince Harry.

AllOutofEverything · 04/02/2023 00:39

Grin I am actually impressed that you can bring in your hatred of Harry into a topic totally unconnected.

Voted AIBU just for the wanky title.

Food banks are about making eating a matter of charity. A society that has them is on the slide. We are a very rich country but the issue about people who deserve vouchers or not to eat is absolutely Victorian. They only appeared as part of the "Big Society" which was all about the state not ensuring the safety net it had always provided.

I want to see an end to them and a return a proper safety net for people.

And where is the money for this going to come from?

AllOutofEverything · 04/02/2023 02:12

We could start by not having corrupt politicians for a start - the fraud with PPE is a disgrace.

My thoughts exactly. Voting labour won't magically solve our issues. At least the current lot have some experience and won't have to go through induction.

I live in France and strikes are an everyday occurrence.
There’s even an app to chk who is on strike.
C’est La Grève.

Exactly, France is famous for strikes. This is 1979 all over again in the U.K.

Yesterday Johnson suggested Ukraine should join the EU!

It's just boom/busy economics and has been happening for centuries.

How? Did the Labour party give Michelle Mone a £200 million contract for useless PPE?
Was it Keir Starmer who gave £100,000-odd grand of taxpayers money to his mistress? Oh no, that was Johnson.
Sunak's wife wasn't even paying tax here until she was caught out.
People saying at least this lot are experienced. They're not though..they swap jobs every five minutes and Dominic Raab didn't know where Dover was and said that he screwed up Afghanistan because the sea was closed.
We've got the highest tax burden for 70 years. What are they doing with the money (apart from giving it to Dido Harding)?
This isn't the Tory party, it's UKIP. They got rid of people like Ken Clarke and promoted the Brexit loonies.
And who voted for Lebedev? How is the son of a KGB agent in the House Of Lords allowed to happen. Wait until we see Johnson's 100 person resignation honours list.

The UK has a population of 7 times Sweden whilst being about half the size of it.

May have a little to do with it.

Sorry I don’t understand why size of land or population affects these things. Less population less need but also less tax income and NI to work with.
More to do with a government and governmental structure that focuses on the needs of the many (and that’s less corrupt) Tories don’t care about the ordinary people.

Iceicebaby1969 · 04/02/2023 08:14

I know people who use food banks, we do need an end to them. We should be ashamed. But we need to teach money management and basic cooking skills from a very young age. The change to universal credit was such a bad idea it affected so many people in a negative way. The government should be looking at how to help people who are struggling instead of passing the baton to food banks. Teaching about money and cooking from a young age can only help everyone as they become older. The energy companies and supermarkets are earning unreal amounts of profit from the poorest it’s a national disgrace.

Labour was much worse during their last stint. They wasted so much money and they will probably raise taxes if they get elected. They never have plans to cut taxes.

If the government funds food banks people complain for being heartless. If the government doesn't fund them they also complain for being heartless.

After reading about shell who made record profits and invest very little here I’m even more convinced that the Tory’s are only interested in making the rich even richer.

@Emotionalstorm

How many food banks did we have in the 2000s? but of course the govt should fund them but maybe look at why we have soooo many and why people can't afford to heat their homes or buy food.

2m workers are on the MW.

You do realise taxes are far higher now than under Blair, highest for 75 years with no plan to reduce them and that does not include the vast increase in indirect taxes, those little hidden extras that get added on or council tax.

Tax burden on someone earning 20k has increased, tax burden on someone earning £1m has decreased, its not much either way but it shows who they care about.

As for the previous pp who said "inflation far worse in europe" this is just an out right lie, all of europe has lower inflation that UK, they seen large reductions in energy prices recently, so Germany 8.5%, France 6% Eurozone 9%, UK 10.5% & food price increases in France and Spain have been much lower than in UK.

At the end of the day, Tories tend to be for the individual and Labour more for Society, so yes of course, someone like you, doing well, will support the Tory party, its the party for the rich & stuff everyone else, it runs through Tories like letters through Rock.

It was the Conservatives who wrote genderwoo into the Maternity Bill. www.spectator.co.uk/article/penny-mordaunt-is-wrong-to-repeat-the-trans-allies-mantra/

I’m not denying that it was. It was under the Tories that the gender ideology nonsense gained so much ground in the first place. But the only grudging good thing I can say about them is they’ve at least read the room and started to row back on some of the excesses. Unlike Labour, the Lib Dems, the Greens etc…none of them were or are standing up for women’s rights, none of them laughed the Maternity Bill out of becoming law because of its mangled language and what that means for women, none of them opposed the march of genderwoo then or now. Very much the contrary, in fact.

And that’s why I have no one to vote for.
