Currently 10 weeks pregnant and it just feels really uncomfortable

Also hot chocolate (made with milk!) helps before bed - I used to be woken up in the night with terrible heartburn but not if I have a warm milky drink as others have said

Now the hot chocolate thing sounds appealing !

It’s such a special time isn’t it 😂

I had it with DD and again now, so bad a couple of weeks ago I couldn’t drink water. Gaviscon didn’t touch the sides, found it completely pointless, and I took ranitidine last time but it’s no longer prescribed in pregnancy, so I’m on omeprazol and it’s literally disappeared. One tiny pill in the morning and I can eat and drink anything I fancy.

Don’t suffer OP and don’t be fobbed off by OTC stuff if it’s not working, get something decent prescribed, it gets worse as your stomach squished up, I had forgotten how much!

Manorbier · 01/02/2023 22:47

Thanks so much everyone- gonna get some Gaviscon tomorrow !

Yep the whole way through sorry! I went through gaviscon by the gallon!

maisiedaisy64 · 01/02/2023 22:49

Get omeprazol if you can…I had it so bad that my vocal cords were damaged. Still hit right a year later

Manorbier · 01/02/2023 22:50

Thanks all for the omeprazol suggestions - didn't realise this was effective

Imthegingerbreadwoman · 01/02/2023 22:52

@Manorbier yep! I'm not a wimp either. It started with my second. And I still get it now but not as bad!

I actually have a Hugh opinion threshold! I have had 4 dc. All straightforward births. No piano relief no gas and air. 1st one stitches again no pain relief. I have broken my ankle and stupidly didn't go to the hospital and it healed funny. I can deal with pain. But ds 2 and the heartburn I thought I was dying. Gavuscon didn't help either. I didn't get it too bad with the last 2 pregnancies but the ambulance driver said that babies with a lot of hair tend to cause heart burn... not sure if that's a load of crap but he had more hair than the others...

Manorbier · 01/02/2023 22:55

@Imthegingerbreadwoman - lol at the hair thing - might be some truth in it ! I had it badly in my first pregnancy- though not as much as some previous posters on this thread but I just powered through

I had severe reflux as well. I rec'd a prescription for pantoprazole to take 2x p/day from my obgyn. I toughed it out trying everything until month 4 or 5 and in hindsight wish I had just taken the medication earlier. Speak with your doctor.

custardbear · 01/02/2023 22:57

Manorbier · 01/02/2023 22:39

@custardbear - Green apples ! Blimey ! The last thing I feel like eating right now !! Grin

I know! Seems daft! Never suffered in pregnancy but just passing it on as I saw it many times when i was pregnant and it just stayed in my brain! (Because it seemed weird lol)

Thanks - I'll definitely go - this is just awful even it's not yet as bad as some people have had

Oh god, I had this too OP! I used the love heart sweets, religiously. They were a godsend for me and I recommend you give them a try (if nausea allows!). It’s awful but mine stopped around 16/17 weeks and came back briefly at 34 weeks.

ultrablue · 01/02/2023 22:59

Drank gaviscon by the gallon with all 3 of mine. Only seemed to get it when I was pregnant, from day one In fact l didn't need a pregnancy test with my third Heartburn started less than one week in

Pantoprazol not recommended in pregnancy. Omeprazole is fine.

edin16 · 01/02/2023 22:59

If you think it's heartburn try gaviscon, if it's more general indigestion try rennies. They act in slightly different ways but one will work better for one and one will work better for another.

It’s the absolute nuts. I did an econsult form and had it prescribed without seeing or talking to anyone in a couple of hours. Started it and literally haven’t had a twinge since, burping much better now too which is a bonus.

The ranitidine helped but didn’t cure it.

Seriously, get some tomorrow.

Sceptre86 · 01/02/2023 23:00

Avoid spicy food. Eat small meals but regularly (easier said than fine sometimes). Say active and prop yourself up with pillows if it's worse in the evenings. Milk can help and I used to take it with every meal. My sympathies, it really is shit. I took peptac when it was truly awful.

Manorbier · 01/02/2023 23:01

@Mummma91 - loveheart sweets ? A new one on me!

BatshitBanshee · 01/02/2023 23:02

Get a prescription from your doc, it is not worth toughing it out. That baby is now a toddler and I still can't eat tomatoes, onions, garlic etc without coughing like a 40 a day smoker afterwards.

Make sure you're sleeping either upright or on your left side (stops the reflux somewhat) and keep your gavsicon in the fridge. I was taking literal swigs out of it like it was bottle of tequila by the end.

It was the most horrendous thing (as well as the hyperemesis, SPD etc etc) but baby did come out a full head of shiny hair so... There's that.

I feel for you. I'm 10w today with my 2nd and am already feeling very early signs if I eat a little too much. I'm paranoid about tomato sauces and citrus already, too!!! 😂
But, please, before you take any meds, even otc, ask doctor to be safe. And congratulations on your pregnancy!!!! 😊

AngeloMysterioso · 01/02/2023 23:04

Yes, although I didn’t have it that early on I don’t think. Was prescribed Omeprazole

Manorbier · 01/02/2023 23:05

@AnneLovesGilbert - that's the thing - I never had this severe indigestion and honestly - I hardly really burped before my pregnancies! Now I'm burping a lot after meals/snacks !

I was swigging gavison from the bottle while pregnant. Going gluten free stopped my indigestion completely. However if I had a slip up and ate a slice of cake I got indigestion for a couple of days. A few years later I did a celiac test but it was negative. I am intolerant however, these days gluten makes my mouth sore and gives me the runs so I avoid it.

whatsinaname2 · 01/02/2023 23:08

God, yes. It was horrendous, I basically laid in bed with my first two pregnancies because it was so bad I vomited if I moved much. The last two pregnancies I had Omeprazole which helped no end and I managed to get on with life somewhat.
