To ask (in desperation!) for help finding passport

IfIHadAHeart · 26/01/2023 15:48

As the title says really, I need my passport on Saturday and cannot find it anywhere. A complicating factor is that I left H a few months ago and may have placed passports somewhere “safe” either at home or at my mums where I stayed for a bit. Both houses turned upside down with no joy, so I’m hoping you lovely people may have some suggestions. I am now too stressed to think straight!!

I think I remember taking them to my mums but to be honest I’m not sure if that’s just because I can’t find them at home. H is now out of the house but can’t rule out him having moved them either I suppose. Annoyingly the only passport I have found is his!

Please help!

Behind the draw. Mine fall behind and underneath the draw all the time.

Whatever draw you thought they should be in take it out completely

Oh gosh OP how stressful. We "lost" ours a few years ago and got to the point where we thought our cleaner had stolen them Blushas we couldn't think of any other explanation. They turned up at the back of a kitchen cupboard where they had slipped behind the shelf (they were all together in a ziplock bag).
So all I can suggest is a forensic check if yours and your mum's house.
Good luck!

dangbongo · 26/01/2023 16:23

(We didn't confront the cleaner btw!)

This happened to me! The drawer was quite full and the passport slid down the back. I also found £20 and a packet of polos in the same place 😁

blackpearwhitelilies · 26/01/2023 16:25

Coat pocket? Jacket pocket.
inside pockets of handbags.
unusual drawers in desks . . .

Heyheyitsanotherday · 26/01/2023 16:26

Have you had to scan them recently? I lost mine and found it ages later in the scanner

euff · 26/01/2023 16:26

Pull drawers completely out if you can. Have also found stuff that's gone out the back of a drawer but not into the one below. Good luck

DancingWithMyPoolCue · 26/01/2023 16:27

I'd suggest looking again wherever you originally thought it was. It's very easy to look, not see it, panic and then turn the house upside down, looking in the washing powder packet etc just in case it's in there, when it's much more likely that you just missed it where it was supposed to be.

Fleur405 · 26/01/2023 16:27

Yes look in the car (that’s where we found one last time after practically destroying our house). Be methodical search drawers (take them out completely, bags, pockets)

IfIHadAHeart · 26/01/2023 16:30

Thanks, really appreciate the suggestions. I’ve checked all bags/cases that went between mine and mums at the time, including the linings. Car, even under boot where spare wheel is. All cupboards, pockets, bags. Same at my mums. I think I remember taking them there but mum and dad have no recollection of this at all so I’m not sure if I’m imagining it because they aren’t where they should be.

I’ve not needed it for ID or anything else and definitely not at work. I suppose I’m down to pulling appliances out now. Then starting from the beginning again.

In an envelope or laptop case

CoQ10 · 26/01/2023 16:32

Behind any furniture where you might have put them. I lost mine and it had fallen behind a chest of drawers in my old bedroom.

Look behind and under everything and be methodical. Try not to panic!

Bookworm20 · 26/01/2023 16:39

If 3 are missing it sounds like you have move them all to a safe place.

Just thinking of where I've hidden valuables when we've gone on holiday/not at home for a length of time.

Check the dc rooms. I have hidden stuff in their rooms before (behind a load of books on the bookshelf that are never moved) as knew no one would look there.

Under sofa cushions. Inside cushion covers if you have them in your bedroom.

Food cupboard, maybe you hid them behind the tins of beans. Same for cereal boxes.

toilet cistern

hot water bottle cover in the bathroom cupboard

Inside a photo album

behind the dvds

jewellery box/jewellery drawer

Look in all drawers - and take the bottom drawer out of the chest, I've found lost stuff underneath the bottom drawer before.

Check every single coat/jumper/trousers you have

Check every handbag, travel bag, baby changing bag etc

I know some of these are a bit bizarre, but something might jog your memory.

LadyFlumpalot · 26/01/2023 16:41

Step 1) Calm down. If you panic you'll start picturing it everywhere.

Step 2) Think back to the last time you definitely had it in your hand. Where were you? Why was it in your hand? What had you just done or were just about to do?

Step 3) Work from there. Physically go to where you last remember holding it if you can and try to retrace your steps. Did you go to the loo after using it? Did you go to the kitchen? I once found mine in my makeup bag as I'd put it in there whilst tidying up quickly in a hotel after a night out where I'd used it as ID.

I found DHs missing passport the other month. It had slipped down the back of a shelf on a cupboard meaning it was pinned between the shelves. We'd turned that cupboard inside out previously but missed seeing it.

Bookworm20 · 26/01/2023 16:42

If you think you might have taken them to your mums, but can't quite remember, try thinking of other things you did on that day, leading up to you going to your mums. What was your routine, anything different happen outside of normal routine? take/collect dc from anywhere?
Anything that you can remember about the day, even not passport related, may jog something

SlashBeef · 26/01/2023 16:44

The inside behind bit of drawers? Under the sofa? Found all kinds of shit under there.

emmathedilemma · 26/01/2023 16:44

mine lives in my knicker drawer and if it's not there it's usually in the bag it was last used in (used to quite often be found in my laptop bag when i travelled a lot with work)

Fizzadora · 26/01/2023 16:47

Did you need them to book your holiday?

Swimswam · 26/01/2023 16:48

Sounds random but ask St Anthony - he is the patron Saint of people looking for lost items.
If the passports turn up come back on and tell us!
what have you got to lose?

stopringingme · 26/01/2023 16:51

@IfIHadAHeart

When you left h did you pack up any boxes/cases that you have not unpacked yet

maddy68 · 26/01/2023 16:52

Bags you have travelled with last time you flew

Sartre · 26/01/2023 16:53

Any chance your ex has them? No idea if he was controlling at all but sounds like the sort of thing a controlling twat would do.

Chocolateteabag · 26/01/2023 16:54

Mine was stuck to a sticky patch on a magazine which had been placed on top of it

Which I found at the 11th hour after going through bins etc

So go through all piles of magazines and papers I'd say

moonbows · 26/01/2023 16:54

Best advice: go back to the place you think they should be in and search there again, very very carefully.

Welpthereitis · 26/01/2023 16:59

Under the mattress you slept on at your parents house
