To report this parent to the police?

A man who lives near me takes his son, probably year 1 or 2, to school everyday as a passenger on an electric scooter. Sometimes they wear helmets, sometimes not. He always drives in the road, usually at the speed limit (20mph) and takes the corners pretty fast. They also have various bags etc. so it looks pretty unsteady. The child stands in front of the adult.

We live in central London so the streets are pretty busy, even though the speed limit is 20. (Lots of motorbikes, Deliveroo drivers etc.)

My husband thinks I'm being ridiculous. Would you report this to the police?

I will add that the man is often looking around, almost as if hoping passing female pedestrians will think wow, how cool is that, a scooter and a kid.

I can't comment on the merits of reporting him to the police or not - suffice to say you do seem like the sort of person very invested in policing others. That aside the last part is hilarious! You've assessed that he's hoping to impress female pedestrians! Grin Ok.

Weird conclusion, wouldn’t the first thought be that he’s looking for traffic, pedestrians etc. Is he shouting ‘hey ladies’ as he goes round corners?!

As for the police, doubt they’d care. If you’re in central London and he’s been at it a while then the chances of him not having passed a police car at some point are slim to none.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

BadgerHeed · 26/01/2023 10:02

Maybe he's looking around for other traffic or pedestrians....or even a cop car, rather than hey ladies, look at Coolio and kid here.

Grumpybutfunny · 26/01/2023 10:02

🤣🤣🤣🤣

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 26/01/2023 10:05

He’s probably looking out for cops!

Id report him as at the very least the kid should have a helmet on.

Maybe speak to the school as well.

Others seem to think this is being a busy body but it would be awful if something happened

WandaWonder · 26/01/2023 10:06

Maybe you should set up a stall outside a school for psychic readings?

snowtrees · 26/01/2023 10:07

I'd report to the school

MademoiselleTrunchbull · 26/01/2023 10:09

Tail him and report it to the school. Or maybe don't.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 26/01/2023 10:09

It’s this cool guy, isn’t it

I'm not in london and there is a man that does similar here. He is a twat. I haven't reported him but you have got me thinking and wondering why i haven't. Desire not to get involved i guess but really that is pretty pathetic on my part so i'm voting yanbu.

Johnnysgirl · 26/01/2023 10:13

Seems like a pretty sensible way to travel in Central London.

Rookriver · 26/01/2023 10:26

Aside from the last part, YANBU. E-scooters are so dangerous. Imagine the damage that can be done to a child's head coming off it at 20mph.

Ashleiigh · 26/01/2023 10:30

You've made an assumption that he's not gay? 🤣

TheChinkOfaGlass · 26/01/2023 10:32

I think you have a crush on him..

They’re illegal to ride on public roads

Clearly he is being looked at, and his every move observed by you, at least.

You want him out the way to stop your roving eyes, don't you? 🤣

Catspyjamas17 · 26/01/2023 10:37

They’re illegal to ride on public roads

In some parts of London you can hire them. But unlikely to be legal to carry two people/a child. Easy win for a PCSO to have a word, I'd say. We have a Community Warden (ex police) who stands outside the primary school some days. Is there anyone like that you could mention it to?

thetrees · 26/01/2023 10:38

Yanbu, that sounds really dangerous and I'd be concerned too

Ponoka7 · 26/01/2023 10:39

My DD wanted to report something similar. I persuaded her not to via the usual 'the police won't be interested etc'. The 13 year old died after an accident a few days later. Now I'd always say, report. We still live with us not doing all we could.

It's illegal for passengers to travel on them. They are designed for one user only. They're only legal on public roads if they're part of a hire scheme and those are very localised.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 26/01/2023 10:52

I think if he wants to look cool he needs a dog as well.

JanusTheFirst · 26/01/2023 10:55

It's illegal and dangerous, of course you must report him before he kills his child or someone else.

SeasonFinale · 26/01/2023 10:56

Samhrj · 26/01/2023 10:34

She hadn't said whether it is a private one or a Voi which isn't illegal

AxisOfEviI · 26/01/2023 10:57

It sounds dangerous. I probably would report.
