I need a hobby!

I often hear people having 'hobbies', sometimes even multiple hobbies. I love reading and I do it almost daily, I love working out three times a week, but other than that I have no hobbies. I love travelling too, but that's surely not a hobby, since I do it two, three times tops a year.

I am 30, no children as of yet - had a miscarriage in November, working on it... I work full time, but I do need a distraction from the whole fertility saga. I am also not particularly crafty!

What are your hobbies?

Thank you!

Would you like a social hobby, or one you can do alone?

Alone! But I won't exclude the social ones! I'm doing the workouts in a group, though

My dh is a master bee keeper, which keeps him very busy. Loads to read, loads to do.

How about gardening, specifically growing your own vegetables?

I'm not really a group person, but if you're already working out in a group you could look at something different like rowing, very scenic way to work out.

Knitting is surprisingly easy and you have something to show at the end of it. And if you're trying to have a baby, there is so much cute baby stuff you could knit!

Since searching for a relative who died in WW1 with DS for history, I’d quite like to do my family tree. I could see that turning into a hobby for me.

My hobby is crochet. I wouldn’t have said that I was crafty either, I only took it up about three years ago but I would say I am pretty advanced now. I started an ETSY shop about six months ago, not really to make money but just because I don’t have enough space in my own house or enough people to give things away to after I have made them.

Our hobby is theme parks but they are all closed right now, so our hobby right now is planning this year’s theme park adventures! Could you do the same with your travel hobby, read, research and plan for this year and next? I love planning!

We like fun days out in general and are always planning mini breaks and new places to go, we camp most weekends in summer. DH and DS are big footie fans and we go to lots of away matches so me and DD like to plan fun things to do in new towns and cities!

Go to the gym more if you love doing it three times a week? Go 5-6 times?

Learn a language... for free on duo lingo, or take a class.

Ohhhh, I love all of these! I was always worried about knitting, because I'm pretty sure i wouldn't be able to - but I might give it a go!

I’m learning Modern Greek (taught online via zoom) that is 2hrs once per week plus a tiny bit of homework. And I go to an aerial hoop class once per week. Both are in small groups but as an introvert I don’t find either overwhelming.

Reading, writing (had a few things published) running, weight training, currently learning Polish via Dualingo, I buy and sell brand clothing for a bit of fun and pocket money, also love baking. I volunteer for a crisis help line too.

Moving house soon and I'll be getting a puppy so that will take up some time, and plan to learn how to grow vegetables. I'll join a running club too as I don't want to be too secluded.

No children so I have a lot of spare time and energy. Might be less once I have the puppy...

Ohhhh, I love all of these! I was always worried about knitting, because I'm pretty sure i wouldn't be able to - but I might give it a go!

I watched some really simple you tube videos. Thicker rather than thinner needles and the same for wool. And to begin with I just used that ball of wool up on casting on, knitting rectangles and casting off.

Then I just free knitted a scarf (I recommend stripey wool!) And then some more.

Then I learned a couple of other stitches and then finally how to read and follow a pattern. I have to decode them in a notebook, but it means I get it!

Now, I'm hopelessly addicted to buying wool.

Over lockdown I taught myself to knit with YouTube! There are some really good videos and once you've got it, it's so easy. And therapeutic.
I buy vintage patterns from eBay (I like 1940-1980s) and make them to sell on Etsy.
I love it. I'm now addicted to buying yarn.

Another plus is that it keeps my hands out of the biscuits! Grin

If you're part of a gym then you might run. My local running club attend different parkruns on Saturday mornings and go for coffee after. There's loads of challenges to complete on the app and there's a whole community on fb.

Do you have a climbing wall near you? It will complement your gym workout. Do you have good access to dark skies? Buy a telescope and see how wonderful our universe is. Research your family tree?

I tend to fill my seasons differently, I go full pace in the warmer 6 months with gardening, camping, cycling, hiking, adventures, days out etc. Then take the pace right back in the colder months of the year spending the time reading, baking, trying out different art/craft (paint, marbling, wool crafts). Currently applying to be a guide dog puppy raiser and would like to try macram and pottery throwing this year. I wrote a bucket list which helps with planning things in
