AIBU to stop invisalign on Day 2?

Ok I do know that would be hugely unreasonable. And an obscene waste of money.

But I have an 8 month old, sleep is already a rare luxury, and yet, its 1am, she's asleep and here I am awake with the pain of this first tray.

I could cry - not that the pain is that bad (though it is super sore/sensitive/annoying) but that I could be asleep but yet again something else is stopping it. It's overwhelming.

On top of that, I have those bond things stuck to my teeth, and it's incredibly painful even getting the tray in and out and I can't eat with it in, so reducing one of my other favorite things also - eating food!

Please give me tips, advice, success stories before I cry.

Honestly it gets better pretty quickly. The first set were the worst for me. Within 3 days they should settle down and it gets really easy to take them in and out. The attachments round off a bit.

Purpleavocado · 24/01/2023 07:05

These are my bottom teeth so far, I'm waiting for one more set of refinements of 11 more trays and then I'll be done.

Keep at it! The first few days are the worst, but you will slowly get used to it. You must feel you need them, and it’s such a huge amount of money really try to stick with it. The results are so worth it!

Soup/yogurts/anything soft worked for me in the early days. Pain killers help along with tepid drinks, I drank out a straw in the first week!

I’m trying to find a before and after pic of mine….

Ursula82 · 24/01/2023 07:08

i take it you’re not in the uk?

BroomHandledMouser · 24/01/2023 07:13

No the greatest pic but that was around two months before my treatment was complete

Stick with it! The first couple of days are the worst, then it will be much better. My first tray was the worst too, barely any discomfort after that. It'll be worth it.

HannahsLife · 24/01/2023 07:32

Oh wow! Those results are amazing!! I'm on a 16 tray plan and that seems so far away now.

I really just hate life right now.

No, I'm in the US - does that change anything?!

Sometimes it helped me to think the time will pass anyway so why not have straight teeth at the end?

PaperDoves · 24/01/2023 08:01

This is why I didn't let my teenager get invisalign! Honestly it does suck horrendously but it will get better very soon. The first two or three days are the worst! Think of the gorgeous teeth you'll have on the other side. Grin

VeryLittleOwl · 24/01/2023 08:06

The first tray is the worst - when you change onto the second set you'll probably have 24 hours of feeling a bit ouch and then it settles quite fast. I had six attachments on my teeth as well, three each top and bottom, and it's tricky to get them in and out, but you do get used to it. The tray will loosen a bit as your teeth start to move and then it all gets a lot easier.

Robostripes · 24/01/2023 08:06

Keep at it! I had massive regret the first week or two. You get used to it really quickly. You can take painkillers - I used to have some if I had a particularly bad tray, and put the new ones in at night so that you sleep through the worst bit.

Robostripes · 24/01/2023 08:09

Here’s my before and after photo - it really is worth it!

It'll get better OP! Stick at it. The first few days are the worst. I remember being in complete agony and having to take paracetamol for a few days when I first started. You'll find that the first day or two after changing a tray are the most uncomfortable but honestly, the results will be so so worth it.

Allthelego · 24/01/2023 08:19

These are really lovely teeth photos. What great results, you all must be really pleased. If you get results like these then I think it would be worth it.

Oodieoodieoodie · 24/01/2023 08:23

Stick with it OP! It gets better, I promise!

Maray1967 · 24/01/2023 08:30

I’m saving up for it - and this thread has motivated me to go ahead and get through the first stages . The photos look great.

Legotiger · 24/01/2023 08:34

Get some dental wax from CVS and that will help with any points that rub.

ittakes2 · 24/01/2023 08:39

my daughter had both Invisalign and braces and says Invisalign less painful just first few days are the worst.
except - in theory your teeth won’t change so ask your dentist but I don’t see any reason why you can’t leave it a month before starting.

catherinewales · 24/01/2023 08:39

Take some pain killers. Whatever you can take for a headache you can take for toothache.

kittensinthekitchen · 24/01/2023 08:40

Oh wow these results photos are really inspiring!

Op, they are forcing your teeth to move, not sure why the pain is surprising to you?

Can I just ask those who've done it, what's the actual real cost of it? Is the process straight forward?

IfOnlyTheyMeantIt · 24/01/2023 08:44

Please stick with it!!

In a few days it will feel so much better and you'll be so glad you did.

The pain at the beginning is the worst. It's not like that every time you change your tray.

I'm onto the retainer stage now and my smile is so much better. I'm really glad I did it.

MorrisZapp · 24/01/2023 09:03

Every single person who does invisalign regrets it in the first week. I had to take my trays out to make phone calls at work because I couldn't speak properly!

By week two I stopped noticing the tray. Honestly, you will very quickly get to a point when you will have to prod with your tongue to remind yourself you've got the tray in at all.

I still wear a retainer at night and I sleep better with it in. The trays feel like they're 'protecting' your teeth and become quite comforting.

I had attachments on twelve teeth and I admit that's a bit crap but OH the joy of getting them off at the end and having straight teeth! Priceless. Here's my before pic

I have had fixed braces for 20 months, they are coming off next week. CAN NOT WAIT!!

I don't know if the pain is more, less or the same with Invisalign but for me the worst of the pain goes in about 3 days. And I already see that my teeth have moved a bit which makes it feel worth it.

rcat74 · 24/01/2023 09:07

Get some Iglu and stick with it. It is horrible at first but you so get used to it and will be able to speak again!

MorrisZapp · 24/01/2023 09:08

... and after, I've had composite bonding too
