Has anyone else had dental work in Poland or Eastern Europe? What was the quality like?

The title should say 'in Poland' not 'on Poland'

I have in Turkey. There’s too many people going over there now though because it’s a trend. Going to the cheapest dentist they can find and then having issues and telling people not to go over there full stop, rather than, ‘’ Don’t go to the dentist I went to’’

If you do your research (very important) then it’s fine and around 1/3 of the cost. Don’t go with the cheapest place you find.

I need loads of dental work done and was looking to go abroad as it is at least half the price than here ( mine is going to cost minimum £10k). The thing that puts me off is that if anything goes wrong NO dentist in this country would touch me if anything went wrong. There are fantastic dentists abroad but it is not a risk I am prepared to take.

pompei8309 · 23/01/2023 19:17

I have, once in Turkey and once in Eastern Europe, both times were absolutely perfect, no issues at all

Who told you that? maybe not through NHS, but private dentists in UK will treat you with no issues

GradNonFashinista · 23/01/2023 19:20

Am lurking as I’m soon having a tooth extracted and would ideally like an implant but they’re so expensive here. A trip to Poland and a cheaper implant sounds good

Thesonglastslonger · 23/01/2023 19:22

YABU, the NHS is spending a lot of money fixing the damage caused by cheap dentistry abroad.

TrickyD · 23/01/2023 19:23

DH needed a lot of work done. UK dentists were crazily expensive. He went to Budapest, supposedly the dental capital of Europe.
The whole thing was a great success. The company arranged accommodation and flights, the work was excellent. He still attends a local dentist for check ups and the hygienist. Considerably less than half the quotation for work here even with the flights and hotel.

As it happens, DS1’s MIL has a dental and orthodental practice, but very inconveniently in Brazil. She had a good look in DH’s mouth and declared the work to be excellent.

I don’t think they do, they simply refuse to touch you, that is if you’re lucky enough to find a NHS dentist

There are complete horror stories about going abroad for dental or cosmetic surgery. I wouldn't consider it for a second. There's one story recently a woman who went to Turkey. Not only did they do it on the cheap, ruined her actual teeth, but she nearly died from the infection and when she returned to the UK she ended up having to spend in the region of £70K to repair the damage.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 23/01/2023 19:40

DH went to Budapest about 7 years ago, and is still delighted with the work.

AlenaMacc · 23/01/2023 19:40

I come from an Eastern European country and can confirm that dentistry in this country is miles ahead from what it is in the UK. Firstly it comes out much cheaper as the pound is stronger than most EE countries’ currencies. Secondly, culturally we are taught to take great care of our teeth - going to a dentist every 5-6 months, treating issues before you’ve had any symptoms. My dentist in this country has regular British patients coming to treat them. Some of our British friends haven’t been to the dentist in 10+ years which baffles me!

For every horror story there are tens of positive stories but then nobody mentions them as they don’t sell well in the press.
70k for what ? a whole mouth of bone graft, 4 implants and a denture ? she’s being ripped off in the UK ,me and many people I know had work done in Turkey and none of us have any issues

That’s because she paid £2,000 each for her and her partner for top and bottom full set 😂😂😂 I mean come on for God’s sake. That was obviously too cheap and a scam. She went to the cheapest she could find. Serves her right being tight. Pay the extra and do your research properly. You can’t tar everyone with the same brush. Dental work abroad is excellent.

My U.K. dentist complimented my work as excellent.

There are many things I love about the UK but the quality of dentistry isn’t one of them unfortunately. Both me and DH have had emergency dentistry done here and we’ve suffered horribly from it, having to then redo it because of infections, abscesses etc.

If you can find a dentist in Eastern Europe that is vetted (e.g friend of a friend) and you can trust, go for it. You will be very satisfied.

Totally, my dentist here in the UK doesn’t seem to be able to offer anything else but extractions, after few extractions here , few implants in Eastern Europe I bit the bullet and went for full mouth in Turkey.
I would not recommend to anyone to get crowns et only for the aesthetic part of it , if you have all your teeth look after them and keep them . In my case I was two out , one in sort of thing and never seemed to have a full mouth of teeth no matter how much I tried , I had no option as I couldn’t stay with teeth misdiagnosed exactly in front , it was very depressing not being able to open my mouth or smile

pompei8309 · 23/01/2023 19:57

missing not misdiagnosed

Longdistance · 23/01/2023 19:59

The best dentists come from Hungary 😁 My dm had her crowns and own teeth until she died aged 81. She had lots of work done there when she was younger and could never find a decent dentist here in the UK.

kitsuneghost · 23/01/2023 19:59

I imagine dentistry in Poland would be similar to here. Never noticed and of my Polish friends having particularly bad teeth.

I wouldn't take the chance on being one of the lucky ones. This woman video diaries her whole experience so I don't doubt the veracity of her claims.

Precipice · 23/01/2023 20:02

I'm Polish. General quality is good. Like with any medical specialisation (or any profession really), some dentists are better than others.

If you don't have any dentists recommended, check out znanylekarz.pl for reviews. You select a specialisation and a city and then you can see their ratings and reviews (it can also be used to book, but that's a secondary use). I chose two specialists on this basis (not for dentistry) and both times worked out well.

snowbellsxox · 23/01/2023 20:02

Please could someone recommend me a dentist abroad
I've got loads of silver fillings, need composite bonding and an implant

RewildingAmbridge · 23/01/2023 20:03

My friend has just been home to Lithuania to have much cheaper dental work. However it's the dentist she used as a child, the one her family still uses, not a random she found on the internet. The work looks great, she recovered quickly (at her gran's house) and it cost a fraction of the price quoted here.
I would only do it if you had a very strong recommendation like that. Eg if I needed major dental work I'd be confident to use her dentist.

Newusernameaug · 23/01/2023 20:04

Dentists are actually quite far behind in the UK and we don’t have particularly strong regulations around training con
