Has anyone else had dental work in Poland or Eastern Europe? What was the quality like?

I wouldn't take the chance on being one of the lucky ones. This woman video diaries her whole experience so I don't doubt the veracity of her claims.

I don’t doubt her story but I wouldn’t go to a back street clinic and pay 2k for full set either . You have to go to a reputable clinic like Lema or Memorial in Istanbul , their won’t put their reputation to jeopardy, they’re too well known for that

Newusernameaug · 23/01/2023 20:06

Compared to many other countries.

I used to work in the insurance business for medical tourism. The good news is there’s specialist travel insurance you could take which I’d highly recommend as your usual policy will be void.

I’ve had dental work in Hungary and Czech Republic and I’ve been really happy both times. One lot of treatment was so advanced I couldn’t get it done in the UK.

Also check out treatment abroad (.net) for reviews

"Who told you that? maybe not through NHS, but private dentists in UK will treat you with no issues"

No they won't. Going abroad is all well and good if everything goes well. When it all goes wrong, many UK dentists including private ones will not want to take on the liability of cleaning up the mess. Once they treat you, they then have a duty of care and a responsibility that many will not want to take on.

MilkyCream · 23/01/2023 20:12

I thought if something went wrong then the dentist who treated you would fix the problem?

Have you been in this position? because my dentist here ( private) had no issues with my check ups?

TheNoonBell · 23/01/2023 20:14

I had work done in Katowice around 6 years ago. Private dentist who spoke great english and did a very good job for a fraction of the price. Root canals and gold crowns. Even with the flights, hotel and dinners for a few nights it was cheaper than going to my local dentist.

The place is now called "Rock Your Smile Katowice". I would recommend staying at the Angelo hotel if you go as it is a 10 minute walk and a really good hotel.

He will , if you’re willing to travel back to see him , I have been given 15 years warranty on mine, any issues I go back , but I do my check ups here in the UK and my dentist didn’t go funny or refused to do it ( it is private though not NHS)

WhineWhineWINE · 23/01/2023 20:18

@pompeii8309 I know many private dentists who are all of this opinion. You are lucky

Applesandcarrots · 23/01/2023 20:22

pompei8309 · 23/01/2023 19:31

I don’t think they do, they simply refuse to touch you, that is if you’re lucky enough to find a NHS dentist

And vice versa. My dentist abroad always moaned about the dentistry from uk people came to him with. The dentist here was actually impressed by some of my work I had from EE country! He took pics.
Shite dentists are everywhere. NHS is not magic

theescapeladder · 23/01/2023 20:22

I'm from Poland originally and visit my (private, but affordable due to the strength of the pound) dentist there regularly.

Over the years I had some truly dreadful experiences in the UK - been living here since 2004 - different cities, different dentists, both NHS and private... To the point that even in case of dental emergency I would rather hop on the plane than use a UK dentist.

This is where I'm going, it's pretty pricey for Poland but so worth it. They speak English, like a lot of Polish dentists in bigger cities, and their facilities are state of the art.

And this why people go abroad ,UK dentistry is so behind everyone else's, not to speak about all the money they’re losing . Too many rules and regulations

Appleandcarrots · 23/01/2023 20:24

Same @theescapeladder (not poland). It also goes for OBGYN and essentially anything specialist since the process here is way too long and imho useless

MilkyCream · 23/01/2023 20:27

I will be going to Warsaw so if anyone has got a recommendation for a good dentist there I would appreciate it

OP posts:
theescapeladder · 23/01/2023 20:29

Definitely OBGYN too in my case, @Appleandcarrots.

If I didn't have my polyps removed privately in Poland, I would probably still be waiting for it to happen on the NHS... Best thing I have ever done as it finally allowed me to get pregnant... on the very next cycle after the procedure, after years of TTC.

Don’t know any in Poland but Im sure you’ll get some recommendations, good luck and let us know how it went, I’m sure you’ll be happy with the results

I've book marked that site, I was quoted almost £6k for fixed braces here by a private orthodontist. If the google currency convertor is correct, and I've added everything up right the same thing from these guys would cost me less than a grand. That's insane! Definitely going to think about that!
Thanks for the link!

@pompei8309

I am a HCP for one of the 111 providers and have dealt with patients who went abroad for dental treatment. When they had problems no dentist either private or NHS would touch them, at least not in my area. One poor woman who had work done in Spain went to the local dental hospital where they cut her implants out and told her to go back to the dentist she had seen in Spain.
I had a dental appt recently and was talking to the dentist about having implants abroad and she said no dentist would touch them over here.

Wishiwasatailor · 23/01/2023 22:37

For those that say private dentists won’t treat anyone who’s had treatment done abroad, what happens to people that come from abroad to live in the Uk? They can never be seen by a Uk dentist?

Also half the dentists in my rural Devon practice are European themselves trained in their home countries

MingeofDeath · 23/01/2023 22:45

@pompei8309
Hungarian dentists are supposed to be the best. I have researched them, implants arex1/4 of the price here. I have considered it but the thought of what happens if anything goes wrong is putting me off.

We get seen like normal (except that some impresses local dentists😂)

I suspect that when people say "dental work abroad" they just mean implants or veneers.

Lndnmummy · 23/01/2023 23:15

I am shocked by the standard of dentistry in the UK and the state of people's teeth. In the country where I am from I don't know anyone with fillings. And def not children with fillings.

Check Finland, Denmark and Sweden too.

Actually my experiences with two IVF pregnancies and births in the UK I can't fault. Always had a midwife appointment etc. I don't see the point of going abroad for that although you might save the NHS if you are going back home for that.
