Frustrated with the High Cost of Nursing Bras

I am 33 weeks pregnant and just starting to think about getting nursing bras as I plan to breastfeed. I can't help but feel a little frustrated at how expensive they are, especially when breastfeeding is a necessity. I know that everything related to babies comes with a high price tag, but paying £80 for two nursing bras at M&S just seems a bit steep to me. 😠
I needed to vent my frustration somewhere, and I thought this would be the perfect place to do so. If any of you have found a place that sells nursing bras at a more affordable price, please do let me know. I would really appreciate it.

The first result on M&S for nursing bras is 2 for £30 not £80. Which doesn't seem unreasonable.

Rebel2023 · 23/01/2023 10:19

I pay £40 a bra and not BF, just unusual size

Glitterandcard · 23/01/2023 10:20

I bought mine on Amazon for a few pounds each. They were fine, especially since breastfeeding, “necessity” though it apparently is, didn’t work out for us for a variety of medical reasons and I only used them for a couple of months with each baby.

H&M is good for nursing bras. £25ish for two

TinyTinyHamsterBalls · 23/01/2023 10:24

Clearly didn't look very far ...

Yep H&M are good. In fact loads of high street stores do them now so they are much more reasonable. Hot Milk make lovely ones and often have sales. Also, after the first couple of months I just wore normal non-wired bras abd bralettes and pulled them down to feed, but depends how much supprt you need.

Snugglemonkey · 23/01/2023 10:25

I got 2 for £30 from m and s recently. Even Asda have them.

Cuppasoupmonster · 23/01/2023 10:27

They’re on sale at New Look, 2 for £13. Chop chop!

scott2609 · 23/01/2023 10:30

You can also easily get really good brands second hand on Vinted and Depop. I got a couple which were brand new with tags for half the price in the shop.

BettyUnderswoob · 23/01/2023 11:20

That doesn't seem right, OP... it's been 10 years since I BF but I bought a pack of 2 for £20-something from Mothercare then, and topped up with 2nd hand from eBay. I already had some bras from previous DC as well, so bear in mind they can be reused, too.

IHeartGeneHunt · 23/01/2023 11:23

Primark have surprisingly good ones

Sandcastles24 · 23/01/2023 11:30

Yes ots really frustrating. If you are a more common size you can get them much cheaper.
If not I just feel lucky to find one that is comfortable. The worst thing is buying them and then hating them after wearing for a few hours

CraneBoysMysteries · 23/01/2023 11:32

I didn't end up BF but I got some great ones from asda and sainsburys which were cheaper than my non nursing bras

LanternGhost · 23/01/2023 11:35

I bought a bunch and didn't end up using them. I preferred bralettes and milk pads to stick in. I just pulled them down for nursing!

xogossipgirlxo · 23/01/2023 11:36

I get what you're saying. Hm or new look would probably have none in my size (30FF pre pregnancy, bigger boobs when pregnant). Also, it needs to fit well for me, so m&s/bravissimo are the only option to me. If it's any consolation, most women say don't buy more than 2, so just think of it as one off.

HippeePrincess · 23/01/2023 11:39

I’d recommend a load of the cheap stretchy unstructured ones for the first 6 weeks, can get them in primark, Asda etc. Then once your size has settled and you know you’re going to continue to breastfeed you can spend a bit more on some better ones.
Theres really no point buying them at 33 weeks!

Overthebow · 23/01/2023 11:41

Asda are good. No need to pay £40 per bra, there’s many cheaper options out there.

Oysterbabe · 23/01/2023 11:43

I didn't use them at all, just wore stretchy crop top type bras and pulled them down.

Oysterbabe · 23/01/2023 11:45

Also a very high % of people intend to breastfeed but the failure rate is high. Don't waste your money at this stage.

Sleepygrumpyandnothappy · 23/01/2023 11:48

Tu are another source of cheap nursing bras.

TheLette · 23/01/2023 11:52

I really rate the Bravado Confetti bra - really soft, comfortable and stretchy, not horrendous looking, and comes in simple sizes. But the XL isn't massive so if you are very large of chest it won't work. Used for my two children. I just sold one on Vinted for about £4 so perhaps look on Vinted for them too - that way you could try a whole load of random bras for the same cost of a new one. Just research into sizing as best you can.

Scarecrowrowboat · 23/01/2023 11:54

I just use stretchy non structured bras and lift up, i find nursing clothes a faff. Around the house I don't wear bra anyway.

Geranium1984 · 23/01/2023 11:56

I prefer to wear the h&m (or plenty of other brands) nursing vests tops. They have an elasticated bra bit in them and I find them warmer than a nursing bra and top.

PoinsettiaPosturing · 23/01/2023 12:02

You can choose to spend £40 a bra, or look at other websites where they're around £15-20. I'm an unusual size (small back, huge cup size) and I can still get them for £20>

MrsCarson · 23/01/2023 12:04

Playtex were good ones for me.
