To see my GP for this?

I've completely lost my appetite. Can suddenly go all day without eating and when I do eat I seem to get full up very fast compared to usual. It's been about 5/6 days of the same. Unusual for me as I love food and usually struggle not to have a sweet treat most days. I'm just overweight but only by about 8lbs so not massively overweight. It's just really unusual for me and I'm a bit worried. Would you see your GP or just give it some time?

Yes. I’d see them.

3luckystars · 22/01/2023 21:34

Yes I would.

YourGazeHitsTheSideOfMyFace · 22/01/2023 21:35

I don’t think it’s wrong to go if it’s a persistent problem, especially combined with feeling full. How long has this been going on for? If it’s a few days, you might have a virus. If a couple of weeks or more I might be more inclined.

But I am not in any way medically qualified!

It's been 5/6 days but I don't feel unwell at all and am covid negative on lft. Tonight my anxiety over it has kicked in.

Please see the GP.

simplesimply · 22/01/2023 21:39

Definitely check this out,
One thing that popped into my head, could you be pregnant?

Largethighsbadeyes · 22/01/2023 21:40

You say your anxiety has kicked in. Is there a chance you have been anxious for a while without really knowing it?

I have anxiety and when at its worse I can go without eating for days. Zero appetite.

However if you are worried absolutely make a GP appointment.

nabbedhiswallrt · 22/01/2023 21:41

I wouldn't. It's only been 5/6 days. Not even a week

Definitely not pregnant. I've got the coil and haven't had sex in 3 or so months. Had regular periods.

Nope, not particularly anxious about anything else and I've only given this any real thought today

Would you recommend I wait longer. And why?

OP posts:
nabbedhiswallrt · 23/01/2023 04:10

@SlinkySienna I would wait longer because it hasn't even been a week and a GP will do nothing after just 1 week

It's probably viral with no other symptoms

If it continued past 3 weeks, make an appointment. Otherwise it won't be investigated and you'll be told to come back in x amount of time anyway

talkingmorenonsense · 23/01/2023 04:17

Wait another week and see how you are. I hope you’re ok. 💐

Toomanybirthdays · 23/01/2023 04:21

Unless you have any other symptoms I would wait for a week or so .

Lizzy1328 · 23/01/2023 05:24

Are you stressed or anxious? Either kill my appetite. Xx

JesusHRooseveltChristSassenach · 23/01/2023 05:28

I really don't want to over think this or scare you but feeling bloated and full quickly is in worst case, symptoms of ovarian cancer.

I honestly honestly hope I'm wrong but if you take a quick glance at the symptoms you may well be able to rule it out.

lborgia · 23/01/2023 05:57

@JesusHRooseveltChristSassenach - agreed, it's obviously worst case scenario, but one of the key symptoms, and this is a disease that is notoriously difficult to diagnose.

@SlinkySienna - if you make an appt, presumably it won't happen for a few days yet, if you're in the UK?

If you're back to normal before, you can just cancel it. If by then you're the same, then you'll definitely want to keep the spot!

Irisheyesareshining · 23/01/2023 06:52

Yes ovarian cancer was the first thing that popped in my head, it’s very unlikely but ask for a CA125 blood test to be safe .

olympicsrock · 23/01/2023 06:56

I would give it longer to see if it resolves by itself . If the problem is still there in another 10 days, make an appointment. ( doctor)

WorriedMillie · 23/01/2023 07:02

It’s worth checking out if it continues.
And (because you mentioned anxiety) please don’t panic at the mention of ovarian cancer.
I had similar recently and it turned out to be a non malignant ovarian cyst

Vegetablesupreme · 23/01/2023 07:07

I would make an appointment today to see your gp. If your surgery is anything like mine, you won't get an appointment for about 3 weeks anyway. Meanwhile if the symptoms resolve themselves, you can always cancel the appointment.

KangarooKenny · 23/01/2023 07:12

I didn’t want to scare you with the ovarian cancer thing, but when you said you have no appetite and haven’t been ill, it was my first thought.
‘Please ignore those saying to wait, don’t wait.

Yes, this is what came to my mind too.

OP I think you need to see a GP sooner rather than later.

Sapphire387 · 23/01/2023 08:25

Ovarian cancer is pretty rare though isn't it? You don't say how old you are. It's worth being vigilant, but wouldn't be the immediate thing to jump to, surely? I'd say if it persists for a few more days, make an appointment, and if you are worried about ovarian cancer in particular, do mention it.

DuchessofSandwich · 23/01/2023 09:16

Please don't wait. My mum waited and it was ovarian cancer and she didn't survive.

Is ovarian cancer really that rare? I know three people who had it, only one survived (initially, she later died of a different cause).

It's almost always nothing but stuff like this needs to be checked so in worst case scenario you're on time to treat it.
