"My baby"

Genuinely not sure if I ABU or not. It makes me cringe when people call their children over the age of about 6 months "my baby". In my eyes they just don't necessarily seem like babies any more. I can sort of understand up until 12 months but definitely not after. I've come across people calling their child of nearly two year old "my baby".

My DM still calls me her baby, I’m 36. It’s a term of endearment!

tocas · 22/01/2023 20:42

So as not to drip feed I have not got any children hence why I think I may be BU.

Huh? So a 7 month old baby parents can’t call them ‘my baby’? What are they supposed to call them? Of course you can refer to a baby as a baby.

Sprogletsmum2 · 22/01/2023 20:42

YABU. My baby is almost 6, still my baby

emma1103 · 22/01/2023 20:43

Both my 4 year old and my 3 week old are my babies. They always will be.

jevoudrais · 22/01/2023 20:44

My baby is 2.5. I regularly tell her she is my baby and will be forever.

Zola1 · 22/01/2023 20:44

Round here (area wise), the youngest child in a family is 'the baby'. So we will say, will you put the baby's bath on, will you watch the baby a minute.. she's 2.5.

tocas · 22/01/2023 20:45

Would you say to others in everyday conversation though? For example "I've got to go and pick my baby up from nursery"

You didn't even need to tell us, it's obvious.

NotMyDayJob · 22/01/2023 20:45

My 10 month old is definitely a baby. What are you talking about?

Bluepalms · 22/01/2023 20:45

YABVU! And very odd!

Lenald · 22/01/2023 20:45

eh? My one year old that crawls and gurgle is hardly a ‘child’. He’s a baby.

Bestcatmum · 22/01/2023 20:46

My DS will always be my baby. He's 40.

Could be worse, they could call them bubs 🤣

bumbledeedum · 22/01/2023 20:47

These are the exactly the kind of opinions you look back on after having children and realise how batshit you were.

My children will always be my babies cringeworthy or not

Reugny · 22/01/2023 20:47

You are being ridiculous.

I know plenty of parents who call their youngest child who is an adult "their baby".

I call my DD "my baby" though as a 4 year old it winds her up.

Timeandtune · 22/01/2023 20:47

My DS2 is 23 and he is still “my baby”. We also refer to him as “the wee one “ although he is over 6 feet tall.

MaryShelley1818 · 22/01/2023 20:47

I think there's a difference between referring to a child as "my baby" and "a baby".

I read a thread about someone worried about taking the baby on holiday and turns out they were nearly 2!! Very different advice taking a toddler on holiday to a baby, so I kind of agree with you.

Bluepalms · 22/01/2023 20:47

If you do have children ever you will realize how ridiculous you’re being.

Tandora · 22/01/2023 20:47

i don’t get it. What are you supposed to call a baby of 6+ months, if not a baby?

Cuppasoupmonster · 22/01/2023 20:47

DD is 3 and she’ll always be ‘my baby’ although I wouldn’t gush about it to others as I agree it’s a bit cringe!

Toottooot · 22/01/2023 20:48

Awa bile yer heid min - a 6 month old not a baby? Aye ok.

catandcoffee · 22/01/2023 20:48

I call my very grown up son 'my baby ' sometimes 😁.
Normally if I want him to cut my hair....it usually works 😉

Farindes · 22/01/2023 20:48

My dog is my baby
