After paying all essentials-mortgage/rent, bills, car, petrol and food…how much do you have left over to do what you want with? Put in savings, buy clothes, meal out, takeaway etc..if anything?
Mn always seems to be full of incredibly high earners..I find it unusual as in real life, it’s a real mix in my friendship group etc

Household income £8500 a month, essential spending about £2200 although we also overpay the mortgage by £600. We put £600 in joint account for food, petrol etc (don't drive much as in London) and have about 1k each for personal spends/eating out/commuting/hair/shopping etc. which theoretically leaves about 3k per month to save although it might depends on things like holidays, Xmas etc.

@CombatBarbie And this is why I refer to MN like Instagram..... Just another social media outlet to make the majority of people feel shit.

If other people’s lives make you feel shit that’s your own issue.

My life is perfectly fine thank you......

Not everyone is in a cost of living crisis. If they are on higher wages but low outgoings they have a buffer.

I’m on a low wage in comparison to many according to here. But our outgoings are low. Mortgage is fixed low rate for 5 years as from last year. Low mortgage due to high deposit. We are careful with energy esp heating. No debts. No massive materialistic nature of buying I’d rather go on holiday or day trips etc. Yes costs have risen but we are still managing ok.

Yes I agree, and would count myself in that category. Live within our means so have some left over to be comfortable each month, still doesn't mean we aren't unaffected by the increased cost of living, just means be have a buffer to afford it. But honestly, when I see any of these threads on here it seems MN is full of top earners...not exactly representative of the UK at the moment with increased costs on everything food, fuel, heatings etc. So I do wonder how much is genuine.
