Pringles in the packed lunch

Pennecrayon · 18/01/2023 11:02

This feels like an odd question but I wanted to ask here in case I am missing something. We have a few tubes of Pringles left over from Christmas and I've been putting a few in a Tupperware for DS's packed lunch. He's 7.

Last night, I got a WhatsApp from a parent who I don't know very well to ask me if I would stop putting Pringles in DS's packed lunch because it's making her son jealous. I was a bit taken aback and I didn't respond.

I think I'm entitled to put whatever I want in my DS's lunchbox (within the rules) and that's what I want to tell her. We're new to the school this year though so I don't want to upset anyone and cause dramas.

I think she is being very unreasonable. Provided that whatever you pack for your child’s snack follows the school’s policy, her only response should be to tell her daughter to accept fact that different children will have different packed lunches or snacks, and that parents, not children, have the final say about what goes in the box.

Even if Pringles do turn out to contravene the school’s food policy, she should not be contacting you directly about this matter: it is entirely inappropriate (and relationship-damaging) for her to tell you to follow the school rules. A more politic response would be to contact the school office (without naming or shaming you or your child) and request that there be a general reminder, for parents of pupils in all classes, of the school’s food policy in the weekly newsletter or circular.

Good greif to actualy think you have the right to monitor anotner childs lunch box, I'd like to monitor her interferering face, with my hand!!

munner · 20/01/2023 09:02

Put the tube of pringles in next and he can share with classmates !

evian76 · 20/01/2023 09:07

Yum, Pringles! Ignore her, as in don’t respond or you’ll give her the power. Continue with the Pringles, does your son wait until lunch to eat them? THAT’S really good behaviour!

"We need to act to improve children’s health in the UK. I can see why parents might find pringles in a packed lunch box an issue

The other mums complaint wasn't that they're too unhealthly, but that her poor darling was getting jealous.

So? OP can give her child what she wants. If other people don’t want to, they need to justify to their kids themselves, not ask others to avoid them too, to make their lives easier.

Lovelylovely34 · 20/01/2023 09:44

Lol yes exactly.... ridiculous, she just doesn't want to listen to her child asking for pringles 😅

Are you the mum in question?

@Thinking2022
Yes obesity and activity levels are another issue. However, everything in moderation is grand.. a few pringles won't harm

Another sanctimonious food police person!

No one is interested, mind your own bloody business.

Honestly, so many interfering irritating food police on MN.

wildchild554 · 20/01/2023 10:15

As long as school isn't bothered and is within lunch box policy just carry on.

mustgetoffmn · 20/01/2023 11:26

Just ignore she sounds bonkers. I love crisps but steer clear of Pringles there's something about the texture and intense flavour which always made me feel yukky after eating. What are you going to do after the Christmas tubes run out? LOl

Mumgonenuts2020 · 20/01/2023 11:42

What? Fancy sending it to you on a WhatsApp you could forward it on to the mums group and that will spark off an interesting chat! 😂😂

Pennecrayon · 20/01/2023 11:47

Stand at the school gate at pick up time with two tubes of Pringles, then when DC comes out, both eat them provocatively while maintaining eye contact with the jealous kid and parent, to assert your dominance.

And get someone to film it for us.

Spring23 · 20/01/2023 11:50

It's so common though - my kid is pestering my boundaries so it must be somebody else's problem

ilovechocolate07 · 20/01/2023 11:57

No way!!!

Even if you think this, gives you absolutely no say over other parents lunch boxes. Personally I think that it's not ideal to be super restrictive and a handful of Pringles or a packet of crisps in a lunch box in the context of a healthy overall diet is totally fine.

Hardly a can of coke and a Greggs baked bean pasty.

BaconMassive · 20/01/2023 12:17

Make the empty pringles tubes into glasses/binoculars and nonchalantly wear them to the school gate.

I've done it! No response yet though.

Hahaha no you didn’t lol. I love it

Legrandetraitor · 20/01/2023 12:21

@AllThingsServeTheBeam agree about getting a Pringles 90s snack pot

Justellingthetruth · 20/01/2023 12:35
