Pringles in the packed lunch

Pennecrayon · 18/01/2023 11:02

This feels like an odd question but I wanted to ask here in case I am missing something. We have a few tubes of Pringles left over from Christmas and I've been putting a few in a Tupperware for DS's packed lunch. He's 7.

Last night, I got a WhatsApp from a parent who I don't know very well to ask me if I would stop putting Pringles in DS's packed lunch because it's making her son jealous. I was a bit taken aback and I didn't respond.

I think I'm entitled to put whatever I want in my DS's lunchbox (within the rules) and that's what I want to tell her. We're new to the school this year though so I don't want to upset anyone and cause dramas.

OP you are brilliant!

Whole · 18/01/2023 19:00

This is not other parent business, if the their child is jealous its their problem. If schools allows some snacks. Just ignore and block them😃

EL8888 · 18/01/2023 19:02

Loving your response 🤣

I don't disagree with your thought process. It's kind. But it is true that the struggle is to get nutritious food to the needy.

Our food specifically asks for things like biscuits and crisps.

Gagaandgag · 18/01/2023 19:05

I can’t get over the fact that she thinks she has the right to dictate what you put in his lunchbox?!
Awaiting a response! Has she read it?

Pringles are £££ perhaps she can't afford and child is pesterring her. I'd save them for a home treat tbh

@PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog

oh give over

it not the best choice to try to use them up in a 7yr old’s lunch. Why don’t you give any unopened packs to a charity or the food bank?

MYOB!

If you think they're too atrocious for a lunchbox, seems a bit odd to give them to a food bank.

Or give them at home as a treat.....

So why is that okay and not lunchbox?

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 18/01/2023 19:25

OP if you wrote that you are queen of school whatsapp chats 👏

keeprunning55 · 18/01/2023 19:46

This has bought back memories of me being told by another parent that I shouldn’t have got my dd’s ears pierced because her dd wants them done now. Parents also complained at nursery that my dc had sparkly shoes & could I change them for plain ones. Quite unbelievable.
Perhaps I should ask my neighbour to get rid of their Porsche because I don’t have one and it’s not fair?! Madness!

Gagaandgag · 18/01/2023 19:51

Total madness

Exactly! Maybe the calorific content changes when at home 🤔

Spring23 · 18/01/2023 19:58

People are mad - I remember one pta meeeting where a parent asked if teachers could stop and search packed lunches for 'bad' items. I called the woman 'the snack police' forever after mentally

My first thought? Buy more Pringles.

Mine first, second, third and eighteenth thought...

Good idea. Then if the mum uses food banks then she can give them to her own kid for school lunch, thus solving the jealousy problem. 🙄
Seriously OP, carry on with the pringles, in fact, buy more and ensure your child has some in their lunchbox every day.
Pringlegate!

Oh, interesting. Maybe it depends on area? 😊

Roundabout78 · 18/01/2023 20:18

This is hilarious 😂 what an nutter. Love your response! Can’t wait to see if she replies

Kittenmitten22 · 18/01/2023 20:43

Sounds like a weirdo. Tell her politely that you won't be putting items in your childs lunch box to suit other parents then ignore and give her a wide berth! Crikey!

Kittenmitten22 · 18/01/2023 20:46

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 18/01/2023 18:20

You can get own brand ‘Pringles’ in Aldi and Lidl.

Or put some other crisps in your kids lunchbox - you can get own brand multi packs from the above two supermarkets for pennies per pack.

Or tell your kid you save crisps for the weekend.

Or tell them ‘No’

But don’t tell another parent what to put in their kids lunch because ‘jealousy’.

Absolutely spot on!

NoWayRose · 18/01/2023 20:49

Would she like you to change your car too, so he doesn’t get jealous about someone getting dropped off in a Tesla?

Sunshine275 · 18/01/2023 20:50

Definately stand your ground and keep doing what you want to do. This other person sounds like someone to avoid what a total plonker.

SeeYouNextTLol · 18/01/2023 20:59

Tell her to do one.
