I am fully prepared to accept I am misreading this and ABU:
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11644925/Man-44-inappropriately-touched-murder-victim-16-hid-remains-bush.html
I understand that Amber Gibson, 16 was murdered by her brother Conor Gibson, 20. Her body was then discovered and indecently touched by Stephen Corrigan, 44 Both men were in custody but Corrigan has now been granted bail as he is needed to CARE FOR A 16 YEAR OLD BOY!!! Please tell me I am misunderstanding in some massive way? They can't be releasing a man who assaulted a girls body and allowing him anywhere near a child can they?

AIBU?

This is actually quite local to me and although it's reported in the DM it's sadly true.

They should be locked up and keys lost down a drain.

Poor girl 💔

It’s also local to me.

My understanding is that there is a lot more to the story than what meets the eye. Very sad all round.

I absolutely cannot believe they are letting this person around a 16 year old, and the wider public for that matter.

BlackFlyChardonnay · 17/01/2023 23:04

I assume the 16 year old is his son and he's being cared for by a grandparent? I think the papers cannot state if that is the case as it would make the boy easily identifiable.

Regardless, the kid could probably benefit from being supervised by someone who doesn't commit such depraved crimes.

Disgusting man.

EmmaEmerald · 17/01/2023 23:11

So the judge effectively said that bail is granted but doesn’t know why?

there will be something awful happening but surely the judge needs that information and with the protection of a 16 year old involved, that information could be given behind closed doors?

houseonthehill · 17/01/2023 23:13

I think it's just because crimes involving dead bodies are lesser crimes, generally speaking.

Maytodecember · 17/01/2023 23:21

You also have to wonder what his motives were for “ inappropriately touching” her body and then hiding her, covering her over with branches etc… To return later?
Worrying also that the 16 year old lad listens to him and does as he says, yet he is not ( according to DM report ) a relative.
Hopefully he’s tagged and a minute outside his curfew he should be re arrested.

I'm not even shocked anymore. Two men, unconnected, both ready to sexually assault a 16 year old girl. Even when she's dead her body is just an object. Her own brother.
It's crushing, she's just a girl. 😢

Northernsouloldies · 17/01/2023 23:30

If someone is capable of defiling the body of a young girl what else are they capable of. That person should be in prison so the latter is never known.

I don’t believe the men were unconnected. Knowing the geography of the area. It’s a very small park with very little through traffic except to the homeless accommodation which is pretty much inside the park.

I think this is closest to the truth. The man’s name has been printed, the paper cannot say it’s his son. I imagine social services will be having a serious look at the family dynamic before deciding whether or not the child can remain in this man’s care. I don’t think it’s a judicial dismissal of the seriousness of the crime he is charged with. If the accusations are true that’s a different matter, the charges are horrendous, however the presumption of innocence still applies. No one knows yet if he is actually guilty.

They are absolutely not treated as such, they are treated extremely seriously.

Chibbers · 17/01/2023 23:47

How can a judge not know why he's granting bail?
Surely all the information is presented to him by the legal teams for a decision to be made?

I find that difficult to believe, I would think that it's taken extremely seriously, probably more so.

The Judge will know. All the information may not be appropriate to be released to the public at this time to protect those connected to the accused who are not charged with any crime and have a right to privacy.

Thank you. I thought it sounded a bit strange.

This happened in my town. I think of Amber every time I go past that area

musingsinmidlife · 18/01/2023 00:01

He has not yet been to trial and therefore is innocent until proven guilty.

His charges are breach of the peace and attempting to defeat the ends of Justice.

We don’t know really any details other than a vague inappropriately touched her and didn’t tell police about her body. The judge who does have all the details about what that allegedly meant he had done felt bail was appropriate.

Frazzledmummy123 · 17/01/2023 22:20

That's horrific! As 16 is legally regarded as an adult, it'll be claimed he isn't looking after a 'child'. Though if he has to 'care for' them, that totally contradicts this as he is responsible for someone after what he did. It is so wrong!

A 16 year old is not legally regarded as an adult .

Just saying . I haven't read any of the links and am not giving any judgement on the situation being discussed .

Hoardasurass · 18/01/2023 00:04

Unfortunately I suspect that some moron with half a brain has decided that as he is an alleged necrophiliac who is interested in girls a live male child will be safe in his care 😒😱

FirstHusband · 18/01/2023 00:04

From my understanding - and if I'm right, you simply couldn't make this up:

A 20 year-old who uses a number of names, strangled his 16 year-old sister, attacked her naked body and took steps to hide her death including calling the children's home she was staying in - presumably with her phone.
A 44 year-old man found the poor girl's body, but rather than tell the police, he inappropriately touched her and hid her body.
An elderly man, in failing health is caring for a 16 year-old boy with developmental delay and ADHD. As a consequence, he cannot discipline the boy.
Luckily, the 44 year-old alleged necrophiliac can manage the 16 year-old's behaviour.
In the interests of child safeguarding and criminal justice, the 44 year-old should be granted bail to help care for and discipline a 16 year-old boy with developmental delay and ADHD.

I'm over fifty and have never seen anything like this in my lifetime. The 44 year-old's lawyer Rhonda Anderson and Judge Lord Scott clearly know better.

Oh my goodness, that poor girl. 😢 The brother is vile evil child murdering scum, and this other individual is sick in the head. Horrific.

NewBootsAndRanty · 18/01/2023 00:06

Really stupid question, but how did they know/find out about what Corrigan allegedly did?

Hoardasurass · 18/01/2023 00:06

In Scotland you are legally emancipated at 16 @shinynewapple22

Karen398 · 18/01/2023 00:07

Having read this I'm concerned about this man walking around Hamilton.
