SNORING!!

When it is considered appropriate to murder DH for snoring?

I'm now on night 3 of listening to his fucking nasal and raspy throat snores while I lay here wide awake.

Last night I had him on my right and the joy of listening to his fucking father who snores just as loud through the wall on my left.

I am tired, irritable, TOTM is overdue, and I'm just so fucking grumpy I could cry. Also dry January was a bad idea!!!😂😂

I've turned him over, I've held his nose, I've dug him in the ribs, it stops him for a second or two.

It's like he is bragging really loudly about what a lovely fucking sleep he is having and here I am wide awake club. Again.

Arghhhhhhh!

If he is a mouth breather then there are strips you can try it does reduce snoring, certainly the volume.

Gosh we are now half in separate rooms because I just need that deep sleep too much ! Not a fan of it but also not a fan of waking
Up emotional bc I've not slept

I've told this story before on here... My late DH was a horrendous snorer... It was pre children. We were staying the night in a TravelLodge. He started snoring... I poked prodded, rolled, pinched kicked him and it continued.
He was most alarmed to wake up in the morning and find me not in the bed...
He eventually located me with the spare bedding looking extremely boot faced in the bath....

What kind of ear plugs do people use

Oh no CPAPs are worth their weight in gold… platinum… whatever.

My DH’s is silent as long as the cat hasn’t chewed a hole in the tube. When that happens it’s a high pitched weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Not been a problem since I bought him a tube cozy.

Before he got I could have written the OP’s post

Pleased to see this. DH is not keen on sharing when I wear mine but it's academic. He snores too and he doesn't have a machine to quiet him.

@ScottishMum03 that is a high price to pay for school catchment! I can only suggest investing in making the living room works as best as it can for you. Good curtains, cover any blinking lights, get a decent sleeping surface if at all possible. We find cube beds quite comfy and better for your back than sleeping on the sofa long term, I think.

Snoring causing another persons sleep deprivation is the worst form of unconscious torture. My DH has a thunderous intermittent snore snort rumble .. drives me insane and has caused countless hours of sleep deficit.

DH rebuts a consult with ENT or sleep
clinic to diagnose the issue .. it’s easier taking our dog to the vet for shots.

My only saviours are foam workmen grade noise cancelling earplugs help buffer the noise, not fun wearing every night but literally keeps the peace. OH does scamper off to the spare room every now when I’ve had enough of his tossing and turning or heavy snoring keeping me awake .. honestly I see the merit of his and her chambers in the near future just to get decent unbroken sleep..

my long term concern is the health risks of those with continuous broken sleep and dementia.. not to mention sleep apnea risk

Get some earplugs....saved my life...and my marriage!!

I’ve had to stop wearing mine- was screwing up my hearing.

SpaceMonitor · 16/01/2023 09:33

Why are you sharing a bedroom with him? Would you try and sleep in the same room as a washing machine or a barking dog? I don’t understand why women think sharing a bed with their partner is more important than a good nights sleep. Absolutely nothing is more important than a good nights sleep. It has a massive impact on your mental and physical health.

ADHDat43 · 16/01/2023 09:57

Yep, this is why we have separate rooms!

@Miala To be fair, it’s not just the school catchment, everything is better except the sleep! We had a beautiful big flat which did have a private garden but I was still having to cart prams/shopping etc up and down the stairs when DH was offshore. It was never going to be a place that I could just open the back door and let the kids play which is what we desperately wanted. It was also in a tiny village with very little to do. And the primary school was ok but in the catchment for a secondary which wasn’t great. We’ve now got front and back garden, a lovely area, walking distance to a fantastic nursery, primary and secondary school, and walking distance to loads of clubs/activities etc. BUT, it’s a smaller house. It was too good an opportunity for the lifestyle we wanted not to take it. I’d rather my sleep suffered than the rest of our lives 😅😬

My husband snores like a warthog. I think k his is due to being overweight and possible sleep apnoea but he won't go to the doctor or lose weight. I use ear plugs but I have terribly sore ears because of repeated use and my tinnitus is worse. We don't have a spare room and the sofa is uncomfortable but the odd night i do have to throw him out.

GettingStuffed · 16/01/2023 10:14

I thought I'd put the symptoms of sleep apnoea here as it's not just snoring. It's snoring followed by a gasping noise as you gasp for air. You never feel like you've had a good night's sleep. You fall asleep at the drop of a hat, snoring whilst you're awake. Lack of concentration.

Ear plugs have been amazing for me. DP has to poke me awake when my alarm goes off because I can't hear a thing.

Name of the earplugs please 😂 link

RampantIvy · 16/01/2023 12:40

Sleep apnoea can be dangerous. DH had a silent stroke, and to this day we don't know whether the sleep apnoea caused the stroke or the stroke caused the sleep apnoea.

Either way it should never be ignored.
