Passport application disagreement with DH. AIBU?

DH has completed the paperwork for DD’s passport renewal. The person countersigning is a friend of mine and doesn’t know my husband, so he completed the forms using my name and has asked me to sign it.

Everything he’s put in is correct, but I’m unsure because I don’t think he’s allowed to fill it all in for me, even though he hasn’t signed it.

It’s quite possible I’m being totally dramatic, so hoping you can let me know.

YABU - of course it’s fine if DH completes it with your information, as long as you sign it.

YANBU - you need to fill it all in yourself.

i know that logically, they wont notice the wrong handwriting, unless it was viewed alongside a previous form, but anything like this makes me somehow nervous!

As long as it’s correct then of course it’s fine.

Awrite · 15/01/2023 16:36

You are signing to confirm that the information is correct. Of course it's fine.

Clymene · 15/01/2023 16:37

You're worrying about nothing.

coldandwetindec · 15/01/2023 16:37

YABU - as long as the information is correct and you have checked it is (as you are signing to confirm that the information is correct) it doesn't matter who has physically written it.

pointythings · 15/01/2023 16:38

It's fine. There will be plenty of people who get others to do the donkey work of filling in the boxes because they struggle with writing. As long as the information is correct and the person countersigning is known to you and is appropriate, you're good.

nosyupnorth · 15/01/2023 16:38

it's fine. what do you think people with disabilities that mean they can't fill out all the tiny boxes on the form themselves do

PuttingDownRoots · 15/01/2023 16:40

Its fine.

It may be unsubstantiated... but I have heard the forms go through easier when the mother applies rather than the father.

Adviceneeded200 · 15/01/2023 16:41

Yes if you've checked and its correct before signing. A lot of forms get prepopulated nowadays before signing anyway.

Sounds like you've grabbed yourself a fab PA!

LeroyJenkinssss · 15/01/2023 16:41

It’s fine and I have done this many many times. My parents and my DH handwriting is appalling so I always fill in official forms. I’ve filled in my bosses as well Grin. No one has ever batted an eye.

EmpressOfTheSofa · 15/01/2023 16:42

Aw bless you OP bit you sound a bit bonkers. It’s obviously fine.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 15/01/2023 16:44

Of course it is fine, though why you are using paper forms rather than applying online is beyond me, so much easier online!

NewYearNewName2023 · 15/01/2023 16:51

You are being very dramatic, as long as the information is correct they have no way of knowing (or caring) who actually completed the form

Womencanlift · 15/01/2023 16:53

Why would you think this is an issue? You are still signing it which the important bit

Yes YABVU

Travis1 · 15/01/2023 16:54

YABU, are you always so dramatic?

thinkfast · 15/01/2023 16:54

It's fine as long as you checked the details are correct. Why aren't you doing an online application though? So much easier and faster. Less hassle for the counter signatory too.

dementedpixie · 15/01/2023 16:56

An online application would be cheaper and you can use photos taken on your phone.

Simonjt · 15/01/2023 16:56

My husband can’t write, if the person had to physically complete the application he wouldn’t be allowed a passport!

You’re signing to confirm the information is correct, you’re not signing to confirm you personally wrote all of the information.

NumberTheory · 15/01/2023 16:57

YABU. If you’ve checked it over, it doesn’t matter whose hand filled in the information.

Spiderboy · 15/01/2023 16:58

Do you usually like to make things hard work? Why are you even posting? I feel sorry for your husband

rwalker · 15/01/2023 16:59

Must be hard work in your house

HavfrueDenizKisi · 15/01/2023 17:01

Blimey. Of course it's fine. As long as the input info is correct. How would they know who actually filled in the form? DNA testing? Confused

Thesealsknowsheismagic · 15/01/2023 17:03

why would it matter who filled out the form? As long as the correct person signed it?

MangshorJhol · 15/01/2023 17:04

How are they going to verify whose handwriting it is? It’s just information. As long as it is correct and you check that it is correct how does it matter if he filled it? I am quite confused by this thread…

eurochick · 15/01/2023 17:07

As long you sign it it's fine.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 15/01/2023 17:08

It’s fine to sign it as you are confirming the information but personally I’d just apply online and fill it in yourself. it’s cheaper by some way, quicker and easier to track. You can take a photo on your phone and it emails the person counter signing and it’s all done online. No doubt they will be inundated with the prices increasing next month so it’s also in the system quicker.
