Passport application disagreement with DH. AIBU?

DH has completed the paperwork for DD’s passport renewal. The person countersigning is a friend of mine and doesn’t know my husband, so he completed the forms using my name and has asked me to sign it.

Everything he’s put in is correct, but I’m unsure because I don’t think he’s allowed to fill it all in for me, even though he hasn’t signed it.

It’s quite possible I’m being totally dramatic, so hoping you can let me know.

YABU - of course it’s fine if DH completes it with your information, as long as you sign it.

YANBU - you need to fill it all in yourself.

i know that logically, they wont notice the wrong handwriting, unless it was viewed alongside a previous form, but anything like this makes me somehow nervous!

There is literally nothing to say that the person filling it out has to be the person signing you loon.

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 15/01/2023 17:09

You are being rather over the top, @MiraMm - people with poor handwriting or disabilities have been doing this since the year dot.

Your responsibility is to check it carefully for accuracy before signing.

OP you'll get piled on, but I know that when I had PND and was very anxious, things like this would weigh on my mind and I'd blow them out of proportion. Please ignore the posters saying things like you are hard work. It's a reasonable question to ask and now you know it'll be fine.

A family member has a disability and often asks others to complete and check paperwork and then they scrawl a signature. It's never been questioned in many years. You'll be fine.

Topseyt123 · 15/01/2023 17:17

Of course it's fine. Why on earth wouldn't it be. As long as the information entered is correct then just sign it. No need to overthink it.

For future reference, I agree with a previous response that the online application forms are far easier. We do those every time now.

Do you usually like to make things hard work? Why are you even posting? I feel sorry for your husband

Why are YOU even posting if you’re going to be unnecessarily rude without even bothering to answer the OP’s question? There is no way you’d give that response if someone asked you the OP’s question in real life.

As others have said, it’ll be fine OP, don’t fret.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 15/01/2023 17:27

I think you’ve gotten your answer, but can I ask why you don’t think this ok, @MiraMm ?

Bard6817 · 15/01/2023 17:30

YABU

Youre signing to say the information is correct. Not that you filled it in.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 15/01/2023 17:53

Could you wear a paper bag over your head then the form won't know that it's a different person signing it?

Note: Remember to poke a couple of eye-holes in the bag.

IMPORTANT: poke the eye-holes in the bag BEFORE you put it on your head NOT after.

in real life I’d say the same thing but I don’t think I know anyone who would be so uptight. I would absolutely tell a friend “stop being hard work, chill out”

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/01/2023 20:05

Support workers fill in thousands of forms for people with disabilities, ND, temporary injuries, whatever. As long as it's correct, it's completely legal and above board.

BunchHarman · 15/01/2023 21:03

So people flap about the most bizarre things.

My husband can’t write, if the person had to physically complete the application he wouldn’t be allowed a passport!

You’re signing to confirm the information is correct, you’re not signing to confirm you personally wrote all of the information.

Loads of people can't write or fill in forms, do you really think they are somehow barred from certain areas of life? You are being a bit bonkers OP
