Party bags for 13yo’s?

blondieminx · 15/01/2023 09:33

DD is having a small sleepover for her 13th birthday.

are young teens too cool for a naice gift bag with a book and a bath bomb or similar? AIBU to offer something like that? I’d be chuffed with that but then I’m 43 😂 I’d like to send them home with a little treat - but “party bags” of plastic tat plus a bit of cake seem a bit old hat at this age?

suggestions very welcome!

Are they the sort to be into pamper bags? So stuff for the party like a face mask, sweets, popcorn etc rather than given at the end.

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 15/01/2023 09:36

I wouldn't bother with a book unless you know what they like to read. Bath bomb is nice idea tho. Maybe an Amazon voucher?

But really, I wouldn't bother with a gift bag for 13 yo.

Landlubber2019 · 15/01/2023 09:36

Ds had a sleepover with his friends at that age, he would have been mortified if I had done any kind of party bag 😫

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 15/01/2023 09:37

Please don't do this 🙈

dontpickupthemob · 15/01/2023 09:37

I agree definitely no party bags. Do a pamper bag full of things they can use during the night.

Heckythump1 · 15/01/2023 09:37

Not a party bag no, but maybe a small pamper hamper/basket each for use at the sleepover?

Lcb123 · 15/01/2023 09:37

I’d not do party bags, but instead offering a pamper basket during the sleepover, face masks, nail polish etc.

TheUnicornsGoHawaiian · 15/01/2023 09:38

When DS turned 13 I bought (from Ebay) some plastic large reuseable Starbucks cups with lids and straws, filled them with sweets, hot chocolate sachet, marshamallows etc. DS was happy to hand them out and his friends loved them.

Womencanlift · 15/01/2023 09:38

As a pp said if you do want to spend money on party bags then they should be for use at the sleepover. I think that’s a nice treat

I don’t think many 13 year olds would thank you for one to take home

holierthanthou73 · 15/01/2023 09:39

Sounds like an unnecessary expense to me

georgarina · 15/01/2023 09:41

I think that sounds really nice.
It's not exactly a 'party bag' with a cartoon bag and sweets inside! Just a party favour, which people give out all the time.

Tripofalifetime343 · 15/01/2023 09:43

For this age for a sleepover I have done a little cellophane bag containing a face mask and a pale pink Essie nail polish with small novelty nail file. A bath bomb would be great! Hair accessories. Small eco toiletries.

But then all teens are not in to grooming and that sort of thing.

Chocolate bars are always appreciated. Socks. Friendship bracelets. A friend of my daughter gave the guests at a tween party a small water bottle each that she had filled with sweets.

milkysmum · 15/01/2023 09:44

I've got an 11 and nearly 14 year old. They have been to many sleepover birthdays and party bags have not been a thing. Just asked neatly 14 year old dd abd she said don't do this, not needed and a bit embarrassing.

Happin · 15/01/2023 09:45

I done little plain white paper bags (rather than your every day party bags), and a little face mask, bath bomb, sweets etc

WandaWonder · 15/01/2023 09:46

What does your child want?

JanuaryBlues2023 · 15/01/2023 09:46

I think they are too old for gift bags at that age. Sleepovers at that age are usually only for a very small number of kids and whilst you provide the space to sleep and food of your teens choice parents tend to be very much in the background and keep out of the way unless required or things start to get out of hand. Discuss with your teen how many they want to invite and decide whether you want to ask them to bring a pillow or sleeping bag etc, ask what she thinks they would like to eat, ask whether she would prefer you to watch TV in another room and largely keep a low profile and ask what she thinks about party bags, cake (she may prefer just to have one cake with her family) etc etc.

StubbleAndSqueak · 15/01/2023 09:47

I wouldn't do party bags for them, I'd buy a big bottle of gin for when they all bugger off home
Buy some tissues for when a few of them fall out
Bitter experience Grin

That isn’t what I asked.

totally unnecessary comment.

DS d8dnt have party bags at 13. DD recently at sleepover & all girls were given a lovely sparkly make up bag & note book , which she was delighted with, at other parties they've had nothing.

Hahaha already in hand. My own DM and MIL both bought me gin 😂

I’d buy them each a cheap make up bag and put in a nail varnish, mascara, face mask, chocolate etc for the evening and take home what’s left. My DD is 13 in March and that’s my plan

blondieminx · 15/01/2023 09:51

WandaWonder · 15/01/2023 09:46

What does your child want?

She wasn’t sure! So I thought I would ask the hive mind!

Party bag equivalent at 13? My gast is well and truly flabbered…

I didn’t do party bags for my 8 year old’s last party and not have several other parents. I just think the whole concept is unnecessarily wasteful in a world of scarce resources.

mistopheles · 15/01/2023 09:53

Not a party bag no. But a sleepover treat bag on the pillows would be lovely - chocolate, tiny squishy, sleep eye mask, ear plugs!

harrassedmumto3 · 15/01/2023 09:54

I think it's a lovely idea, OP.

Good things to include (hopefully you've a Primark near you!) are cosy sleep socks, an eye/sleep mask, a claw clip for hair, hair bobbles, a face or hair mask, nail polish, sweets.
