Party bags for 13yo’s?

blondieminx · 15/01/2023 09:33

DD is having a small sleepover for her 13th birthday.

are young teens too cool for a naice gift bag with a book and a bath bomb or similar? AIBU to offer something like that? I’d be chuffed with that but then I’m 43 😂 I’d like to send them home with a little treat - but “party bags” of plastic tat plus a bit of cake seem a bit old hat at this age?

suggestions very welcome!

@Extraordinarytimes Chocolate to take home at the end of the party is consumable and what I do instead of a party bag, doesn’t involve the waste of tat no one wants. Likewise Easter egg hunts, the chocolate gets eaten, not chunks of plastic made and bought for no enduring purpose @StubbleAndSqueak so I’ve always had them, for any age who wants to join in.

But I don’t think “stuff” equals “joy”. At all.

I really won’t reply again, I don’t want to keep detailing the thread.

Age appropriate party bags are great! I have just helped my mum make some for her 60th - she is going on a golf trip to celebrate the week after her 60th, we had fun making the party bags haha

My daughter is 15 this year and still loves a good party bag. Like others if it's a sleep over then it's things like face masks, white cotton gloves, hand cream, kawaii post it's , note book and pen. They love a variety of stickers ( amazing) , Novelty pencil sharpener or rubber, a lip balm out of a multi pack. Pop tarts sleeve or individual wrapped waffles for breakfast and hot chocolate bomb. IWOOT do these little keyeing caddy's that are a plastic capsule with emergency hair grips, Bobble nail file etc in it. They went down a storm.

That's brilliant, love it! 👏 😀 Grin

My first reaction was: party bags at 13??
But a little pack with bath bomb pack or a couple make up things sound nice if they are in to that sort of thing. Ask your child, surely?

HaroldandWilly · 15/01/2023 11:32

I'm 35 and would love a party bag! I wouldn't add book though. I grew with others about making it a pamper bag. Bath bomb, lip balms, little nail polishes, face masks, truffles, maybe a little tea light holder or a Pukka tea bag.

DD recently at sleepover &all girls were given a lovely sparkly make up bag

Christ...

Whynowwhynow · 15/01/2023 11:46

OP - If you hit the right note they’ll be appreciated.

I would put in a face mask (you can get some funny animal ones), a sparkly nail varnish (different colour for each of them), nail gems, chocolate that kind of thing and I would give it to them when they arrive rather than leave so they can do some pampering.

Kubby123 · 15/01/2023 11:57

My daughter had a sleep over for her birthday last year and we got the girls a pamper bag each, mainly it was b&m face masks etc but we did get matching t shirts and shorts from H&M for all the girls to wear that evening which went down well. (All from their basic range where it's 3 for 2 ) so wasn't mega expensive either.

Party bags for thirteen year olds?

zingally · 15/01/2023 12:11

I'd have been mortified by the idea of a party bag at that age. They're only for, like, under 8s, surely?
But if it's a pamper party, sending them home with a bath bomb each is a nice finishing touch.

SleeplessInEngland · 15/01/2023 12:14

No, at 13 that’s ridiculous.

user1471538283 · 15/01/2023 12:15

At that age my DS and his friends just wanted pizza and chocolate to share. And to be left alone.

At that age I'd have loved bath bits and chocolate or something to do like face masks.

SleeplessInEngland · 15/01/2023 12:15

(Unrelated, I will never understand why bath bombs are so popular, or at least popular suggestions for gifts. Humbug!)

HerbErtlinger · 15/01/2023 12:17

I did similar for my DD when she turned 12 and had a sleepover party. I put in sleep masks, face masks, a nail varnish, lip balm and some treats. They all loved them

MrsSkylerWhite · 15/01/2023 12:19

It’s a sleepover, party bags not required. Let them make pizza, get in some popcorn and watch a film.

takealettermsjones · 15/01/2023 12:23

I got one at 13 and it had some nice writing pens and some 'grown up' chocolates in it and I was chuffed to bits!

RJnomore1 · 15/01/2023 12:37

One year I got initial mugs from home bargains for everyone, put in hot chocolate sachets, bath bombs, face masks and some chocolate and cellophaned them with ribbons. Went down a treat, I think they were 15 that year.

thaegumathteth · 15/01/2023 12:42

I did stuff for them to use on the night.

So
Drawstring bag
Sleep mask
Face mask
Lip scrub / mask
Hairband thing to hold hair off face
Cosy socks

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 15/01/2023 12:43

No. Socializing need not always involve merchandise!

SomethingOriginal2 · 15/01/2023 12:46

I think they'd secretly love it but actually too cool. Who doesn't love a party bag!?

Kitkatcatflap · 15/01/2023 12:48

My DD had a girly sleepover for her 13th. So pizzas and snacks whilst watching some teenage Netflix things. 5 girls - 7 including my DD

REX London had cheap beauty things on sale, face masks, nail files, I bought mini travel size hand lotion, cleanser and magic face towels from Primark. I made some draw string bags to put it all in but to be honest afterwards I found Primark had some pretty bags for a pound but that was a while ago. The girls loved it.

containsnuts · 15/01/2023 12:54

I would just put together a big pile of goodies for the sleepover and say it's theirs to do what they like and they can take home anything that's left . They can work it out between them at 13.

Forgiveourfoolishmaze · 15/01/2023 13:11

Oh ffs Covertimage what would you have them presented with? A hemp sanitary towel and a copy of the New Statesman?

I love a sparkly makeup bag and believe it or not I am a feminist and have quite a serious job.

And why are posters so literal on here! Or read the title and nothing else. The “party favour” exists in many forms for all ages and interests.
