I meant £75 per 30 days.

Yes, I thought that was a lot. I paid about £50 for a battery operated thing that exercises the pelvic floor, admittedly I didn't have a big problem but a few months on I don't have a problem. Don't know if they work for everyone though.

Newlifestartingatlast · 14/01/2023 22:16

£75 for 1 month or less is ridiculous. That’s close to £1000 per year.
pit might well work but most women will not go near for that money
so pads are only practical solution still
( speaking as menopausal woman with stress and urge incontinence, interstitial cystitis, on long term antibiotics, and have been treated in all sorts of ways by nhs to resolve

Far cheaper and reusable.

JenniferBarkley · 14/01/2023 22:24

YANBU. My first instinct is that this is (another) inappropriate product for MN to be promoting.

RosJ · 14/01/2023 22:35

There are 2 reusable brands that I know of: contiform and efemia. Not cheap to buy but last longer. They both work for me. Totally changed my life, not exaggerating.

BelleMarionette · 14/01/2023 22:41

Yanbu. It is completely inappropriate for Mumsnet to be promoting this. It's profiteering, pure and simple.

And it’s an advertorial posing as a nice, friendly article. I used to work in marketing. It’s sneaky and not nice.

I spend £40 a month on pads & pullups, can't get my GP to refer me to get them paid for, with the cost of living rise I'm really struggling

FatEaredFuck · 14/01/2023 23:02

You can ask for a referral to gynae team and get fitted for a pessary which can help.(for free)

Me too. Ffs, this is creating a market that should not exist

work on your core, do pelvic floor exercises and you can stop this incontinence

it is NOT an inevitable consequence of aging. Stop funding this shit.

Newwindows · 14/01/2023 23:14

Nat6999 In my area you can self refer to the continence team. Might be worth checking the website of your local NHS community trust

Robstersgirl · 14/01/2023 23:18

If I had the money I would. I had inoperable cervical cancer and can’t do pelvic floor exercises. I beat it but I leak and worry I stink :(
It’s completely out of my league but most people would do anything!

Frequency · 14/01/2023 23:29

I'm sorry you went through that @Robstersgirl . I can vouch for the modibodi pants. I only suffer from incontinence if I am ill or if I consume a lot of liquid eg when exercising or on a night out. I wear these religiously and they never smell, you never feel damp.

junebirthdaygirl · 14/01/2023 23:30

I would if l thought it would help as have an overactive bladder..no leakage, just a constant urge to use the bathroom. I would do anything. Already spent 2000 euro on the chair that strengthens your pelvic floor..did strengthen it but urgency still there. It is a matter of mental health and l would probably try anything that came on the market that l was aware of.

CastleCrasher · 14/01/2023 23:41

I have very little leakage under normal conditions thankfully (PF exercises and perifit have helped a lot), but I do do a high intensity fitness class that can cause it at times (think star jumps, lots of jumping about while shouting etc). One day I realised I didn't leak while on my period.... Because I use a mooncup (well a similar brand actually).

So now I have a second mooncup specifically for my exercise class. Pop it in before, take it out after, no leaks. Ta dah! £15 and reusable. Not for everyone of course (and probably against manufacturers recommendations) but it's been amazing for me. And doesn't cost £75/month!!!!

billy1966 · 14/01/2023 23:48

My SIL was plagued for 20 years with this.
She only mentioned recently when her GP suggested the medication.

She always had to be near a loo, wearing pads etc.

She started on it recently and felt relief within 72 hours.

She is on it a month and said it is life changing, literally.

We were speaking about the chair too, which has great reviews apparently.

notapizzaeater · 14/01/2023 23:54

I used the chair, it helped but wasn't a cure 😢

Wetcappuccino · 15/01/2023 00:03

Second vote for Mooncup here. I find it makes a difference for me.

I have no opinion on the product, but it's too simple to say that doing pelvic floor exercises alone can stop incontinence. For some women maybe, others may need more help.

Nat6999 · 15/01/2023 01:31

Billy1966 I'm already on the maximum dose of Mirabegron, been on it 7 years.

There was a study. For most women (without other physical issues) pelvic floor exercises will prevent incontinence

they managed to help 80 years olds in a care home. It’s always worth trying to improve the muscles and not just do what we always do, accept that this is just something that happens and allow these bloody corporations to market it all as normal, inevitable and something we have to pay for their products as the only solution.

incontinence is NOT normal nor is it inevitable for all.

I’ve just attended a workshop on a different female issue and again there was so much discussion about how we’ve been told to just accept x y or z as a normal part of female aging.

SlaveToTheVibe · 15/01/2023 08:41

It’s absolutely tru that women and men get treated differently with health issues. Men wouldn’t be expected to Pay anything

Yes to this. And if there is a long waiting list for a womens physio (around a year in my area) a one-off payment of around £65-75 is enough for a private physio appointment. I realise that's a stretch for many but a heck of a lot cheaper than paying the same amount once a month!
