Radio presenter calling all Emma’s evil in the 90’s

AIBU to remember a radio DJ, possibly Chris Moyles or similar launching a campaign in the late 90’s calling all Emma’s evil?
As a teenager with low self esteem, and the name, it massively effected me, increasing my self loathing.
AIBU to think that person needs calling out for it, even after all these years to apologise, they certainly wouldn’t think it was OK nowadays

Chris Moyles is a dick. He was always incredibly rude to and about his listeners but was embarrassingly up the arse of any celebrity he wanted to be mates with (I remember Chris Martin shutting him down quite quickly when Moyles said he wanted to go to the pub with him).

Having said that, you should have tried being a Sharon or a Tracy in the 80's and 90's. It still holds a bit of a stigma now, but I can't say the Emma thing has stuck.

It was Chris Moyles and wasn't it a joke based on his ex girlfriend being called Emma and having dumped him? Like he was taking the split very badly? I mean not funny but it wasn't meant to be serious.

Anecdotally, I know a sociopathic Emma.

As a teen in the 90s I didn't know about this, but I'd have to agree.. the two Emma's at my school were absolutely awful people.

Chris Moyles was and is, a hideous prick.

Satisfy yourself with the knowledge that 99% of society (who is aware of him) think that way. He's not a well loved person.

I still think Sharon and Tracey has had it worse and longer than any other name. People haven’t named their kids Sharon or Tracey since the 80s because of the ridicule.

I remember it, he is a moron, but it was tongue in cheek after one of them had been dumped by an Emma.

Why did you listen then? I don’t remember anything of that nature happening in the 90s, but if I had heard something like that on a radio show I’d switch off, or change the station, and not listen to that person again. We have choices when it comes to radio shows.

Calling out? Maybe if you’re 12 or under. Anyone else is too old to ”call someone out”.

I'm a Karen, my sister is Emma and SIL is Tracey! I'd say it's Karen that has taken the worst pounding, because answering it results in 'ha ha you've proved it by complaining'.

Also Chris Moyles is an irrelevant, sexist git but the supposedly woke chuck around Karen quite happily.

I said this on the IACGMOOH thread. Popped into a pub in South London a few years back and was looking around the room as I walked in, it was pretty empty. Caught Chris Moyles eye and he gave me the most menacing look. It seriously looked like he would get up and hit me for getting in his eye line. I had zero intention of going to try and get his autograph. It was pretty unsettling. He’s a nasty bully.
