To be annoyed with vinted sellers choice of condition

Blinkingheckythump · 14/01/2023 07:50

I have been looking on vinted for some clothes for my lo and am so fed up with sellers marking items as 'good' or even more annoyingly as 'very good' condition when they have stains on them. In what world is that the right condition?! Surely 'satisfactory' is for anything marked, 'good' for faded or bobbled, very good for well very good condition I.e no marks or wash wear, and then new.
I don't want to buy something and have the faff of trying to get stains out, most likely not being able to and then being stuck with stained clothes. I understand some people don't mind stains and use them or messy play etc, I'm not debating if they should be sold, I just want to set the search to very good condition and not have my time wasted looking at items which are stained. Please tell me I'm not alone in this? Or explain to me if you mark stained items as good or very good condition why you do it?
Yabu stained clothing is OK as good or very good
Yanbu it should be satisfactory

@Blinkingheckythump

I did. The seller told me to send the items back but I'd have to pay for postage, which is Vinted's policy unless otherwise agreed. It wasn't worth it.

The seller then left me a one star review, which was just full of lies (i.evclaiming I'd asked for a partial refund which I hadn't!) and Vinted refused to remove it.

Gingerlygreen · 14/01/2023 09:36

I've had a mainly positive experience on Vinted, the vast majority of stuff has been in great condition with only a couple of things being faded.

I do think a lot of items are expensive on there though especially when you factor in the fee and postage plus the fact you have to pay to return items.

Imagine walking into a clothes shop seeing a dress you like and going into the changing room.
If you like it you pay the asking price plus a £5 fee, if you don't like it and want to put it back on the rails you still have to pay £5.
That's what you're doing with Vinted.

Positivelypatient · 14/01/2023 09:38

The most annoying thing about vinted is having to pay for returns when things are not as described. I feel that's very unfair.

Blinkingheckythump · 14/01/2023 09:12

The thing is a lot of time these aren't cheap enough to bother with once you've factored in the fee and postage

I also filter to £10 max as a matter of principle 😂

This week I got a brand new pair of Clark’s ballerina pumps for £6

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 14/01/2023 09:56

Only selll on Vinted and if anything I always rate my items down so in reality selling virtually new stuff as Very good.

My items are gorgeous Grin

enhanced · 14/01/2023 09:58

Omg yes! My peeve on vinted is when people put something as new without tags but in the description put "only worn twice" or "washed but never worn" that's all well and good but if it's been washed and/or worn it's not new 😅

Scarecrowrowboat · 14/01/2023 10:00

I haven't received anything in worse condition than expected so far. I also list everything as good condition and just take detailed photos even if it's never been worn I list as good. Plenty of people are happy to buy clothes with bobbling especially scandi kids stuff.

terriblyangryattimes · 14/01/2023 08:20

I've started reporting listings that are clearly flouting the 'condition' rules. No idea if it will make a difference but it makes me feel better.

Kids school shoes listed as 'new without tags' but listed with the photo showing some light wear to the sole, creases in the leather and "only worn a week" in the description.
😡

Totally agree. I bought some kids trainers on there, new without tags and stated that they have never been worn but when I received them the soles had mud in them. I messaged and said they are fine to keep but it's a bit shitty to say never been worn although perfect condition they clearly have. So annoying

I have bought and sold a lot on Vinted of late and 95% has been as expected. Condition good is generally anything I find that isn’t brand new or next to brand new. So can vary and as someone above has said, most people look for things at Very Good or above as fees and postage just make Good or Satisfactory overpriced. But I only sell stuff that is in very good (ie excellent) or new anyway as not worth my time as sellor packing and sending. Annoyingly seem to have sold something that had a stain on myself, but I wasn’t aware and if the buyer had asked for a refund I’d have given one. That was early on so super careful now!

Oh sorry, TBF I didn't really know people used vinted for adult clothing, I've only ever used it for baby/kids stuff.

Sorry. I didn't mean to be snapy.

This is why I wouldn’t buy second hand especially for DD, who wants to wear other peoples stained cast offs…yuk!

I've had a couple of amazing bargains but a lot of the stuff I've seen is really poor quality, over priced and marked as good condition.

I recently bought something that was labelled as medium, but when it arrived the tag only had the waist size which was 28 and therefore very small not medium! They have refused to accept a return so I'm waiting to add what Vinted does about it.

parsniiips · 14/01/2023 11:17

To see what Vinted does *

mamabear715 · 14/01/2023 11:17

Never even looked at Vinted because I put in the same class as Pandora jewellery - brilliant marketing, & that's about it!

Obviously very few people want to wear stained clothes, but there are lots of very good reasons to buy second hand. To save money, the planet...

I've been horrified by how many items of clothing DS has barely even worn before he's ready to fit into the next size. We've handed most of them down to pregnant SIL (kept a few in case of DC2 but if not will sell/hand down again).

That's shocking, did you get vinted to intervene with the decision about refunding?

Yabu, trainers are the worst. Absolutely filthy, grey trainers that were once white look like they've been worn for 5 years straight without a clean marked as Very Good. Or worse stuff that looks alright on the photos then you get it and it's unwearable unless you like looking like a tramp.

I've given up with vinted now, way too many issues and shit protection /customer service when it inevitably goes wrong.

Received my Vinted item yesterday. Faded and awful. The photos were clearly edited.

I emailed the seller and she replied with "thanks, noted for next time. I'll be more careful in future!"

I'm fed up of receiving items that have clearly been shrunk in the wash, stinking of extreme perfume, armpit stains and now faded / worn / bobbled.

I've started giving shitty feedback (something I don't enjoy doing!)

Something was labelled a 10. It had clearly shrunk. I gave feedback and the seller replied saying "Maybe you put on weight....?"

I've just bought a jumper on Ebay, it is used but VGC, I very rarely buy used, and never if its viscose as that shrinks if not washed with care. The photos look good. She has 100% positive feed back. Fingers crossed its worth it. I usually buy BNWT or at a push without. But this jumper liked beautiful and in the photos it looked brand new. We'll see.

Diedre44 · 16/01/2023 16:19

I bought a pair of boots a few months ago, they were absolutely caked in mud when I received them. Too much hassle to return so they went in the bin. Nothing at all like the picture and not even packaged in a box, just taped up loose in a black bag.
On the flip however I also bought DH a lovely Hollister heavy jacket cheap as chips, the seller included receipt in the beautifully wrapped package for dry cleaners as had noticed a mark when she was packaging it originally.
It's definitely swings and roundabouts on Vinted and wether your willing to take a punt.

I understand your frustration when it comes to buying clothes for your little one and not getting what you expected. It is important to be precise when it comes to the condition of the clothes, especially when one is looking for something in very good condition.
In my opinion, I think it would be better to have a separate category for clothes that are stained or have some wear and tear. This way, buyers would have the option to choose between an item in a satisfactory condition or an item in a very good condition.
Organic baby clothes are a great option as they are free from any kind of harmful chemicals and are a great way to keep your little one safe. Also, organic materials are more durable and last a long time, so you can be sure of not having this issue again.
