Has anyone else seen the TV show The Traitors? I've watched the British version, the Australian version and going to watch the American version which begins today. I'm obsessed! I want to go on it! I think I'd be quite good if I was picked as a Traitor. I would have no problem whatsoever in manipulating people and smiling in their face whilst doing it and backstabbing them at the same time but shifting the blame onto someone else😂Anyone else a fan?

I really enjoyed it but had to skip through the tasks because they were so bloody boring and didn't really have any purpose? Would have made more sense if the traitors were trying to steal money or sabotage in some way! As it was the episode deffo could have been half an hour!

Also it irritated me when they offered Maddie to steal 3k from the pot to leave and everyone acted like she was a saint for not doing it. 3k wasn't that much in the grand scheme of things and didn't 'prove' she was a faithful as a traitor would have said no too! If they made it 8k or more it's an actual dilemma.

Just my two penny's anyway!

I don't think they did it so she could "prove" she wasn't a traitor. I think they did it to fuck with everyone's head over the group bonding/trust stuff.

Do you know, I actually think you've got a good chance of being selected...

I thought the same. I think Keyansier gives off a bit of a Rylan vibe tbh

That was laughable to me and Aaron kept saying he would have definitely taken it to buy his mother a deposit for a house - for 3 grand? Where does he live? In the 1970s?

That's why I'd rather see you as a Faithful. I think you'd make better TV being at the disadvantage because it would piss you off so much. Everyone wants to be a Traitor, that's not distinctive.

But anyway, apply and see what happens.

I'd be voted out first for accusing everyone else of being one if I wasn't picked a traitor! 😂

Rylan seems very OTT and annoying sometimes... I'm guessing some users will agree with what you said then 😂I don't agree, but it's your opinion!

This is probably one of the most self aware threads I've seen from you.

Go for it! But then tell us if you do so we can try and guess which one you are on the show

cocolemonad · 12/01/2023 20:48

@ReneBumsWombats I get that but afterwards everyone kept saying how that 'proves' she's a faithful when it literally meant nothing! 😂

And your exit would be something to behold.

caringcarer · 12/01/2023 20:51

Oh God, I could not do that being buried alive task. I would freak out. Then everyone would hate me and vote me off.

I've never been on a reality show but I don't think you're allowed to say if you're a part of one before its begun, or until after it's aired, so I wouldn't say anything until the show was finished and airing Grin

I am somewhat interested in it but somewhat also wary of the outcome and worried everyone will hate me afterwards 😂 But if I do apply, just look for the guy called Keyan (but pronounced Kye-ann - I know: that doesn't make sense to me either lol).

Actually, that's true, I forgot about the tasks part! I could absolutely NOT jump out of a helicopter into the sea or as you said, being buried alive. If they could make it without the tasks I would consider it, but I forgot about the tasks part until you mentioned it! Maybe not for me considering it. Love Island it is then! Lol, JK

The entire series is uploaded on DailyMotion (and perhaps Youtube, though it may have been removed now because of copyright). If you type it in on Google and select 'videos' you will find a source.

I absolutely LOVED it. I became slightly besotted with Wilfred too <3 I'm watching the Aussie one which isn't quite as good but no interest in the US one since I heard they were using Z list reality TV "stars" (Love Island types) and I can't stand the host. I speak fluent French though so I might see if I can get hold of the French one.

I'd love to enter but I'm just not sure I'd be any good at it.

Oooh I didn't know there was a French version! There is a Dutch version but I haven't watched it yet. Not sure if I would be as invested having to read subtitles all the time.

The US one is a mixture of (Z list) celebrities and "normal people". I do predict it will very 'loud'.

do they take away your access to the internet whilst you're filming?
If so crack on OP at least then you won't be dicking about on here for a bit

I am not sure I can cope with all the “oh my gaaaaaahhhd!” that the US one is bound to provide. There are Belgium ones as well too apparently, French and Flemish.

My cousin did one years and years ago (20 years or so). It wrecked their life. I would not recommend.

You might be able to control your own narrative to the other contestants but the programme is heavily edited and what is presented to the viewers may not be the real truth. The programme makers may decide to portray contestants in a certain way eg ‘the sarcastic one’ ‘the naive one’ etc and only show footage which supports their narrative. I wouldn’t want to take the risk of being painted a certain way and then have my supposed character dissected on social media. But each to their own - go for it if you fancy it!
I loved the show (the U.K. version) but a big part of the appeal was the freshness of it so I’m undecided if I’d watch a future series.

This!

If you want a public profile for any reason - for example, if you’re trying to make it as an actor/singer/comedian/writer/tv host - then going on The Traitors and being adorably nice to everyone (particularly the production staff) is a fantastic career move.

If you just want to play the game, and can’t stay 100% focused on how you’ll appear on screen, then it’s unwise. Remember that a digital record of the show will exist forever and you crying your eyes out over something silly may be playing on rerun tv / youtube equivalent 50 yrs from now while your grandkids roll their eyes and their friends snigger. And it’ll come up in every job interview forever, etc.

I’d love to play the game but no way would I put my reputation in the hands of random tv execs.

That's very sobering to read, and true! I have no desire to be famous at all. And would want to slink back into the background after it was over. So appearing on a reality show on BBC1 might not be the best choice for doing that lol. If there was somehow an option of being able to decide if I could definitely be a Traitor would likely lean me more towards saying 'yes' lol.

OP posts:
strumpert · 13/01/2023 04:25

I'm not going to say what programme it was.

The programmes are very heavily edited and what is presented to the public in the final edits is very skewed.

Similar to what others have said, the narrative about you will be controlled by the producers of the programme and any reactions will be around for ever.

I honestly feel for my cousin so much. They did the programme back before much was known about reality tv, they were naive as we all were to how the images of the people in the programmes were manipulated by the media and the lies that can be told.

I don't watch any reality tv as a result it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. It's so incredibly manipulative.

Ohgodthepain · 13/01/2023 04:42

Are you sure you're robust enough Op ?

strumpert · 13/01/2023 05:04

I don't mean to burst your bubble or anything and if you want to go and try it of course you should go ahead but are you ready for people who are interviewing you for a job in 20 years time to google your name and find all the skewed perceptions of you from the tv programme?

I actually feel really strongly that reality tv is damaging to participants.

And my cousin remains very angry about how they were portrayed and how they were lied to. Even to this day.
