Have you ever quit a job after 2 weeks?

Shesasuperfreak · 11/01/2023 14:23

I posted in Work, but I dont think I'm going to get replies.

I'm not happy and my eyes are opening to a job that I started last week.

I told myself that I would fell better in actual of weeks, but I don't want them to make plans for me and then for me to leave.

I havent signed the contract yet but it says that I would have to give 2 weeks notice.

I lasted 4 weeks.
It was horrendous. The company were openly hostile about customers, they hated them (luxury (yeah right) online travel firm). They had no compassion, no morals, blatantly ignored ABTA guidelines, lied to customers, charged horrendous fees to change names/accommodation etc. Sent customers to half built, shit ridden hotels.

I’d worked in travel 26 years before this company and had seen a lot, but this bunch of crooks were utterly vile. Everyone was miserable, unfriendly and they were so tight they enforced a 40 hour week (finishing at 6pm) in an office based bang in Central London. Everyone commuted 1-2 hours each way, each day.
I felt sick every day.
One of the worst times of my working life. I’d cry on the train.

I'm thinking that I would have to work my noticeor I won't get paid the 5 days I've worked. Do you think I would? I would rather not

I was thinking of saying that its more stressful than I thought it would be with everyone being new. I'm used to fitting into a unit and knowing my role but I feel like I'm having to be everywhere and I cant perform my duties effectively. I was going to give it a few weeks but I dont want to waste your time.

I left after a week but knew after a day. It wasn't the job that was sold to me/advertised and I was just left to get on with it with no support. Luckily my previous employers allowed me to go back and I took that week as unpaid leave.

Never regretted it and stayed with original employer for about another 8 years.

levellingleveller · 11/01/2023 16:10

No, but after one day at work I was told there was not a job for me after I refused the owner's sexual advances. Never got paid for my day's work either.

I very much doubt you'd have a notice period with only being there for 2 weeks.

Say whatever you like and leave.

If it were me I'd just email. If she rings me I wouldn't answer, assuming you know which number she'll call you from.

I quite one job in the middle of the first shift. Was too boring.

I know of one case that's probably some kind of record. One guy assembled a team that was supposed to be selling his products. When he started explaining what batshit crazy selling methods he wanted to use, the whole team just walked away before even waiting for the end of his welcome speech.

AnnieApple123 · 11/01/2023 16:47

No. However I regret not having done so. I stuck it out a year instead and it was miserable. Truly if it’s clear the role just isn’t a good fit, don’t hesitate. It’s a perfectly reasonable thing to do (I’d go as far as to say mature) and arguably in everybody’s best interests.

Kinnorafron · 11/01/2023 16:47

Yes I have.

Paintedocean · 11/01/2023 16:48

Try not to worry about what they’re going to think or do. You can’t control that. Better to act as professionally as possible though - you never know when you’ll come across people again. If you really can’t face speaking to your boss just write a clear email ( although a conversation would be better), explaining why the job isn’t for you. In my experience most jobs come with a weeks notice in the probation period so say you’ll work that and then you’ll get paid for the time you’ve worked.

MrsPinkCock · 11/01/2023 16:54

I knew after 2 days that a job wasn’t right for me and I wish I’d quit much sooner than I did.

I ended up staying for 9 months and it was an awful place to work. I walked out without notice in the end.

if it’s not right, quit whilst it’s easy for you to do so!

earsup · 11/01/2023 16:54

I lasted 3 days at a charity....i was temping so could just leave easily, i was glared at for taking my lunch breaks etc and for not staying late for free...snipey comments made...i guess they wanted some one who would do lots of unpaid hours....
I also left another job after a week...filing bits of useless paper that nobody ever looked at...the worst was listening to the sales men talk about their shags and their big dicks...they were greasy and slimey....and shocked i wasnt interested in them so made lesbian jokes all day long....yuk...!

Shesasuperfreak · 11/01/2023 18:37

Did you get paid for the days you worked

OP posts:
Pickingmyselfup · 11/01/2023 18:44

I did after 4 weeks. Manager was a tyrant, had me working all hours and prone to temper tantrums. After finding a new job I approached to give notice and was told to leave whenever I wanted so I finished my shift, packed my stuff up and left them to deal with having no front of house staff. I later learned the housekeeper also walked out that day.

The whole place was a shambles, under 18s serving alcohol, the dog being allowed in the kitchen and behind the bar to drink out of drip trays. Not what you want from a food and beverage establishment!

Didn't need to put it on my CV because I didn't have a real gap in my past and future employer and I did get paid for my 4 weeks so nothing lost and it was certainly an eye opening experience.

Moxysright · 11/01/2023 18:46

I would always advise to stay until you have another job to go to but it’s each to their own!

TidyDancer · 11/01/2023 18:56

The job I am currently doing I knew wasn't right for me after a couple of days. I've stuck it out for over a year now and it's never got any better. I should've listened to my instincts. I'm leaving next month and can't wait to get out of there.

I also quit one temp job after two days many years ago. Boring as fuck and couldn't tolerate it. Didn't get paid.

bellalou1234 · 11/01/2023 18:59

I did after 4 hours

astronewt · 11/01/2023 19:19

I'm contemplating leaving after three months right now and well into interviewing. It's just not a match. I do need to have something lined up though or I can't continue the degree I'm doing.

RagzRebooted · 11/01/2023 19:22

A day and a few hours. It was cold calling and kind of a scam.
Another after 2 days as the chef was kind of creepy (and claimed to be psychic Hmm).

EasilyDistractable · 11/01/2023 19:26

No, but I wish I had.
Truthfully, stuck with a job that ruined my life. I knew within 2-4 weeks that I had made a catastrophic error, but stuck with it hoping it would get better, because, obviously, it was me, not the job...

Dominoeffecter · 11/01/2023 19:27

I stayed in a job I should have walked out on in the first week for a year 😄 do it

confusedlots · 11/01/2023 19:28

Yes I quit a job after a week, completely the right decision, it was awful. They made me work 4 weeks notice which was madness because they were still training me. But I didn't want to cause any bad feelings so I just did it

Soccermumamir · 11/01/2023 19:29

We had a member if staff who worked like 3 days and then told us it wasn't for him. You'll be surprised how common this actually is.

fiesta · 11/01/2023 19:44

Yep telesales job. Went in the morning. Left for lunch and never went back
