Have you ever quit a job after 2 weeks?

Shesasuperfreak · 11/01/2023 14:23

I posted in Work, but I dont think I'm going to get replies.

I'm not happy and my eyes are opening to a job that I started last week.

I told myself that I would fell better in actual of weeks, but I don't want them to make plans for me and then for me to leave.

I havent signed the contract yet but it says that I would have to give 2 weeks notice.

Not persoanlly, but I know people who have done so. I think if you know for sure you want to leave then do it sooner rather than later. Will be eaiser for them to pick up their recruitment again, and will look less bad on your CV (as you can just leave it out entirely).

Pearlygates · 11/01/2023 14:29

Yeah, it was after 3 days. It just wasn't for me. left and never came back. I don;t regret it at all and I never put the job on my CV cuz well, why would I?

Employers only care about a large gap in your employment history, not 2 weeks.

Shesasuperfreak · 11/01/2023 14:32

Did you still get paid and what did you say in the letter?

Yes I got paid for the 3 days. I emailed the manager, I just said I appreciated the opportunity and everyone was lovely blah blah blah but I don't believe that this is the right role for me and would rather not waste the companies time.

bobisbored · 11/01/2023 14:44

Yes. I lasted 2 weeks before I resigned. Hated every minute, upset every night. I told them I was leaving and gave a weeks notice so was there for 3 weeks in the end. Luckily I had something else to go to.

I got paid for the time I worked. I kept the letter very brief but verbally discussed with my manager the reasons I was leaving.

Wibbly1008 · 11/01/2023 14:46

I left after 8 days because the boss was batshit crazy, walking about talking to herself and telling you to do something that shouting because you did it. I told her she was having a breakdown and needed help as she was clearly unwell, and I was leaving as I couldn’t work in that environment.

Dartmoorcheffy · 11/01/2023 14:50

I've quit after 1 shift. I've also left a few jobs after a week. It's a fairly common occurrence in my job though (chef). It's quite standard to be told a load of rubbish in the interview and when you start you find out the reality is totally different.

Willdenytothedeath · 11/01/2023 14:51

Yes. I quit after 5 days.

They treated me badly, complained that I was the last in the office (even though I was early). Complained when I dared leave only half an hour late, with my boss saying that she'd be there until at least 10 every evening.

I spent 5 days working 8-9 hours a day doing filling, with them sniping and speaking down to me. For most of it I was sat on the floor.

It was a 6 months contract but I quit after the first week, after telling my boss exactly what I thought of her 😂

I walked out unemployed but happy never to set foot in that office again.

I've left a temporary teaching job after just a few days but not a permanent job.

I took the job as I was relocating from one end of the country to the other so decided to do supply/temporary contract instead of trying to find a permanent position from so far away. The school tried to manipulate me - they asked if I would teach an A level subject outside of my specialism and I gave them a hard no. Multiple times. Arrived to find it on my timetable with the lie that another teacher would plan my lessons/all I had to do was follow the scheme of work. This didn't happen and the scheme of work was awful (so LOADS of work for me and I was fuming as I had made it very clear I wasn't prepared to teach it) - then my father had a stroke (thought he was going to die) so I decided to leave rather than taking time off.

It didn't go down well! I have no regrets though - I wasn't impressed by the lying/manipulation and they really were taking a gamble going down that route.

Shesasuperfreak · 11/01/2023 14:54

Had the craziest meeting yesterday that showed me how everything was going to be.

The company director came and the manager and deputy starting talking like David Brent and acting as if we (all the new staff) had been in the job for years and that we really need to do xyz. Which was stuff that was never mentioned to us. I felt like I was getting told off in a strange way.

It was like the Apprentice boardroom and project managers are proving to lord sugar that they know what there talking about.

I left a telesales job after the second 3 hour shift. It was the worst.

Another job I considered it that early, but stuck it out for 18 months, the final six only due to family issues that made staying in that office convenient.

Best of luck whatever you decide

Chooba · 11/01/2023 14:59

Yep - did one after 3 days as it was just so awful I couldn't bear it.

The other I made it to about 7 weeks, but that's because I needed to tolerate it long enough to get something else to move to.

LlynTegid · 11/01/2023 14:59

I've not done so but would not blame you for leaving, though don't just walk out, have a conversation and hand your notice in face to face.

User787878787878 · 11/01/2023 15:01

Yep - have left halfway through a shift. Awful job.

Another job I left after 8 weeks - nice people but not a good fit for me.

If you aren't happy then be honest with them, thank them for the opportunity and move on.

CellarDoreen · 11/01/2023 15:03

Yes, I once quit after a day. Sometimes you get to a new job and immediately think "no". I've also worked in a number of places where people simply haven't turned up on their first day which I always thought was abhorrent, but it happened more than once, so must not be that unusual!

Kennykenkencat · 11/01/2023 15:06

A few.

One it was because I was allergic to the environment

One because I could earn more on the dole.

Lots because they were boring jobs and the people were a**holes.

Some of the biggest mistakes of my life have been staying in job I don’t want to be in because people told me I can’t keep walking out of jobs.

JustFrustrated · 11/01/2023 15:12

I nearly did. Very nearly.

I stuck it out though, and a year later I'm really happy here .

Shesasuperfreak · 11/01/2023 15:21

I dont want to regret it but I dont want to feel trapped. Plus I feel like the manager will be angry for me wasting their time.

OP posts:
Dotjones · 11/01/2023 15:24

I quit my first job after two days because I physically couldn't handle it. It's better not to waste your time (and the employer's) by hanging around if you immediately know the job isn't right for you.

Who cares if they're angry? Once you've left what's that gotta do with you?

I personally wouldn't do it in person.

Email is sufficient.

Finish for the day and then send the email. That's it!

Paintedocean · 11/01/2023 15:34

I did - after an exhaustive interview process part of which was giving a presentation about how I would approach the role my boss told me at the end of the second week that she wanted me to do something completely different. I pointed this out and she basically said tough so I resigned on the spot and left. It was really disappointing but I didn’t regret it for a moment.

If there’s part if you that wonders if you might regret it, speak to your boss, outline your concerns and see what they say. You’ve nothing to loose. Good luck!

Who cares? You won't be there to see it.

TellMeWhere · 11/01/2023 15:38

Yep. Quit after 4 days. It was a shit show and the wrong fit. Zero regrets.
