To just want a duvet that doesn’t bugger off in the cover

Just that really

Every night I wake up with a limp bit of duvet cover and the cover itself has sodded off to a big ball on the other side.

I’ve checked and downloaded checked I’ve got it the right way round (it’s a super king so it’s not square).

Short of sewing poppers onto the cover and the duvet it’s self (which I don’t really want to do cos the bloody thing should just stay where it’s put) I don’t know what to do.

Any suggestions?

Honestly this is part of why I've just switched to coverless. Also makes washing much easier, no faffing about with enormous covers and empty spots!

SmartWatch · 11/01/2023 07:44

IKEA duvats don't do this for some reason. My SK one stays put.

TheChosenTwo · 11/01/2023 07:46

Arghhh this happens on my side all the bloody time and it infuriates me. I also flip the duvet cover so that dh ends up with the cold flappy bit but I move about in my sleep a lot so I can only think that the duvet slips a bit but where does the excess end up?! I’m permanently enraged and just hoping someone has a good suggestion.
I don’t think coverless would work for me.

ThistlyPerf · 11/01/2023 07:52

I was having the same problem too so have recently purchased M&S supremely washable ( I think ) and so far it’s being very well behaved, staying put in the cover.

ProserpinaProserpina · 11/01/2023 07:52

Someone recommended sewing a bit of ribbon to the corners of the inside of the cover and the duvet, and then tying them together. I can’t say I have gotten around to it but I keep meaning to 😂

Sgtmajormummy · 11/01/2023 07:55

Nappy pins in each corner of the duvet. Pin those to the inside corner of the cover and close them securely. Been doing it for years.

Sgtmajormummy · 11/01/2023 07:57

It’s also a good idea to wash duvet covers inside out so they’re ready for pinning and flipping.

HarryArry · 11/01/2023 07:59

This has never happened to me. I currently have a Laura Ashley one from Next. I am really careful to get all the corners in the right place when I change the bedding.

Struckbylightning · 11/01/2023 08:13

My sons (21) duvet does this, which I find baffling as it NEVER happens to me. He also manages to undo the duvet covers altogether so he ends up with the duvet coming out altogether. I tried the nappy pins, but he wriggles about so much it tore holes in the duvet so now he has a feather problem also. Finally I bought online a duvet cover which has ribbons in the inside corners and also has a zip so that the cover stays on. Game changer.

bellac11 · 11/01/2023 08:14

I have this problem with Ikea covers. I have no idea why they are more inclined to walk down the duvet cover at night but they do

I like the idea of the ribbon but like the PP, I would never get round to doing this

Lordofthebutterfloofs · 11/01/2023 08:15

It's not the duvet, it's you.

...I have never thought of this. I am autistic and duvets moving out of place is a nightmare for me. I am definitely going to whip out the safety pins the next time we change the sheets.

Pixiedust1234 · 11/01/2023 09:26

Have two smaller duvets? I'm thinking that if people are changing to two singles on a double bed to avoid the usual tug of war then it might resolve your problem as well. Get two doubles as they seem to behave usually.

lochmaree · 11/01/2023 09:38

coverless duvets!

rainbowandglitter · 11/01/2023 09:46

I've never had this happen at home but it's happened on holiday once. I think it was the cheap material that the duvet cover was made from. What material are yours?

GoT1904 · 11/01/2023 10:10

Solidarity. Mines fine, but Dd's does this every night and I keep having to sort it 😑

cakeandteajustforme · 11/01/2023 10:13

Have you tried a wool duvet, they're lovely, good for environment, and a bit heavier so ime stay put.

dudsville · 11/01/2023 10:15

Your thread title made me laugh so i clicked! I've never had this problem. My duvets are basic recycled polyester ones from JL. My bedding is 100% cotton Orla Kiely. I don't know why brandss should matter, but what do you have?

I’m wounded 😂

DH is able to remove the fitted sheet from under my arse and claims that „that’s crappy bedsheets, nothing to do with me”
Brushed cotton so not slippery. The problem lies with him- he tries to turn over without lifting his body.

In your case- either you’re very wriggly when you’re asleep or you’re cold and trying to cover yourself up grabbing just duvet cover.

What bedsheets you have?

Mischance · 11/01/2023 10:24

Not the whole duvet defecting here - just the contents. I keep plumping and shaking it to get the feathers back where I want them, but they seem to migrate to the bottom - and they do it during the day too when I am not in the bed - weird!!

Yes, I think this is the problem - I've only had it happen with polycotton duvet covers, not 100% cotton which seems to 'cling' to the duvet better!

MotherOfHouseplants · 11/01/2023 10:31

I know you don't want to sew but it does work and you have to do something with a super king as it is so wide and it is the middle which slips down. I have sewn three largish buttons to the top edge of the duvet (one in each corner and one in the middle) and corresponding elastic loops to the inside top edge of the duvet covers. Turn the duvet cover inside out, attach the loops to the buttons, and then reach in to grab the top edge and shake it down. As an additional advantage this makes it much easier to change the SK duvet on my own, without losing the corners.

Also consider what your duvet covers are made of. I find linen and cotton percale are 'grippier' than cotton sateen, and I won't touch polycotton with a bargepole.

SheilaWilde · 11/01/2023 11:24

I'm tempted to just get Coverless duvets but they're quite pricey.
