To just want a duvet that doesn’t bugger off in the cover

Just that really

Every night I wake up with a limp bit of duvet cover and the cover itself has sodded off to a big ball on the other side.

I’ve checked and downloaded checked I’ve got it the right way round (it’s a super king so it’s not square).

Short of sewing poppers onto the cover and the duvet it’s self (which I don’t really want to do cos the bloody thing should just stay where it’s put) I don’t know what to do.

Any suggestions?

Honestly this is part of why I've just switched to coverless. Also makes washing much easier, no faffing about with enormous covers and empty spots!

Me too. I am never going back to covers!

CrapBucket · 11/01/2023 11:32

My duvet is 2nd hand, it was from Germany and is very heavy. I was only using it temporarily originally but the cover never moves, and therefore I love it so much I will keep it forever. This is probably not much help to you unless you feel like trying German Gumtree or something.

Svalberg · 11/01/2023 11:35

I have this problem, but with only one duvet cover. And it's the most expensive one, from John Lewis. Doesn't do it with the other covers from JLP and elsewhere!

My sons (21) duvet does this, which I find baffling as it NEVER happens to me. He also manages to undo the duvet covers altogether so he ends up with the duvet coming out altogether. I tried the nappy pins, but he wriggles about so much it tore holes in the duvet so now he has a feather problem also. Finally I bought online a duvet cover which has ribbons in the inside corners and also has a zip so that the cover stays on. Game changer.

Unless there’s factors you’ve not said why is your 21 adult son not capable of readjusting his duvet and buttoning up his duvet cover himself when this happens?

VikingLady · 11/01/2023 11:38

DH and I have gone coverless. I've stitched the kids duvet covers to the corners and edges of the duvets though. They fit in the washing machine and dry fairly well (synthetic), and it saves me at least 10m per night and a LOT of frustration!

I feel your pain. I have an never ending battle with our superking (which I never win)

ChristmasCurry · 11/01/2023 11:42

Have a look at Night Owl coverless duvet - they are excellent.

trickyex · 11/01/2023 11:42

I remember once seeing duvets which had fasteners on the inside to deal with this but I cannot for the life of me remember who the supplier was (online).

If you can be bothered I think sewing buttons/loops on the inside would solve this. It is very annoying I agree.

christmas2022exchange · 11/01/2023 11:42

Yup, mine does the same.
I've ordered these off Amazon, hoping they will help!🤞🏻🤞🏻

I've never had this happen at home but it's happened on holiday once. I think it was the cheap material that the duvet cover was made from. What material are yours?

I'm not trying to sound snobby but our are 600 thread Egyptian cotton from Sleep & Soak and it happens all the time. Never happened when we used to use cheapo bedding.

Parrotid · 11/01/2023 11:44

This is what comes of having polycotton covers. Doesn’t happen with 100% cotton or linen.

The fibres are v v smooth then. I love high count sheets but for the cover, something lower, or a brushed version stays in place.

Because they are a sateen weave which is very smooth and slippery.

Glad it's not just me - I use these and they're very good .

DH is able to remove the fitted sheet from under my arse and claims that „that’s crappy bedsheets, nothing to do with me”
Brushed cotton so not slippery. The problem lies with him- he tries to turn over without lifting his body.

In your case- either you’re very wriggly when you’re asleep or you’re cold and trying to cover yourself up grabbing just duvet cover.

What bedsheets you have?

The JL 300 count (I think) cotton.

That definitely makes sense. Thanks

Ponderingwindow · 11/01/2023 15:17

All duvets and covers should just come with snaps, ties or some sort of standard system. I don’t care what they use, just agree on an industry standard and stick to it.

Once you learn the trick of attaching them inside out and flipping they are really simple.

there are iron on snaps for this purpose. Those are the easiest. They do come off occasionally, but it’s a trade-off with labor saved from sewing so many on in the first place.

2bazookas · 11/01/2023 15:19

Are your duvet covers polyester , or poly cotton? Very slippery.

Pure cotton duvet covers stay put.

YANBU

We leave the cover off and just have blankets over us than the duvet because neither one of us wanted to continue to battle with the cover.

I had this with our summer duvet. As soon as we switched to our winter one it improved. Winter duvet is fat, light and full of goose down. Going to bed is now much better.

BertyFlanter · 11/01/2023 15:55

I hate this problem! I bought some microfiber duvet sets from amazon, not massively expensive. They have the ribbons already inside on each corner to tie the quilt to and they work a treat. Also a little bonus was zip fasteners rather than buttons which makes everything look nice and neat. No peeking out white bits!
