Didn't realise my work was so bad !!!! I am shocked.
Would love to know what is the 'norm' not including statutory.

Really ?! Do some places not offer better, for example 3-6 months decent pay?

How long do you think is doable on stat these days ?

Save up a buffer beforehand or return to work earlier/use accrued leave. OMP often has conditions on it, such as return to work for a minimum period.

H2bow · 10/01/2023 17:37

I was working in a different field back then, but I got 6 months full pay, 3 months statutory pay and 3 months of no pay. I could also have taken up to 5 years off unpaid but would have had to be offered a job at the same level on my return (I didn't though). I think now I would get 6 weeks full pay, then statutory and then nought for the final 3 months.

Jellifer · 10/01/2023 17:37

12 months full pay

Onnabugeisha · 10/01/2023 17:38

At the time, mine was 12 weeks unpaid- it was also in the US.
I had my babies whilst an expat.

HippeePrincess · 10/01/2023 17:42

All previous employers have been statutory for me, now I get nhs as I’ve been there enough time to qualify, I can’t even remember properly but it’s about 8 weeks full pay, and up to the 6 month mark half pay plus smp, then goes down to smp to the 9 month mark then it’s unpaid to the 12 month mark.

hellypad · 10/01/2023 17:43

Ours is parenthood leave, so the same for anyone becoming a parent qualifies, they get 3 months full pay, 3 months half pay and 3 months statutory, then when you return you can work 80% of your hours for full pay for the first month. It's great as all dads take at least the first 3 months.

DuploMum · 10/01/2023 17:47

Teaching - works out at full pay for 6m

Themind · 10/01/2023 17:47

I had 12 months
3 months full pay
3 months 90%
3 months statutory
3 months no pay.
I opted to spread my pay over 12 months.

justwantobeamum · 10/01/2023 17:49

8 weeks full pay then statutory. Law firm - awful in my opinion.

theduckinatree · 10/01/2023 17:51

When I had my first child my employer only offered stat maternity pay, but you got a bonus, equivalent to two weeks pay, when you'd been back at work a year, and then another bonus if you were still there six months later (so at 12 months and 18 months).

By the time I had my second child, they'd changed the policy, so you now get 12 weeks full pay, then just normal smp for the remainder of the paid portion, and can take the last chunk unpaid if you want a full year off.

PumpkinDart · 10/01/2023 17:51

I get 6 months full pay and a further 3 months half pay.

Mommabear20 · 10/01/2023 17:52

13 weeks 100% pay, 13 weeks 50% pay and then statutory

AliceinSlumberland · 10/01/2023 17:54

I work for the Local Authority and get 6 weeks at 90% pay, 12 weeks SMP + 50%, then SMP until 9 months.

You can work self employed while on maternity leave so that’s my back up to be honest.

6 months full, 3 months SMP (civil service). It was a significant factor in choosing where to work for me.

loverofpants · 10/01/2023 18:05

6 weeks paid full, then back to work. (Not in the uk)

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/01/2023 18:05

18 weeks full pay
21 weeks stat mat pay
Then nothing for the rest of 12 months.
I "returned" and went p/t whe I stopped getting paid and used my accumulated annual leave to get another 10 weeks or so

Middle East ?
I had only 40 days paid but I think it has increased to 60 now.

Baconand · 10/01/2023 18:16

Mine is average, 6 weeks full, 12 weeks half plus SMP, then SMP. We get generous annual leave though that is added, so if you take the full year then you can have another 7 weeks-ish full pay via holiday.

We saved up for mine, needed another £20k to cover the bills whilst I was off! Painful.

Poppasocks · 10/01/2023 18:22

DD1 and DD2 I was on maternity allowance. It wasn't counted as income so we were eligable for help (including 15 hours free childcare for DD1 when DD2 was born)

DD3 was a different employer, I had 18 weeks on full pay

Allthefoodandwine · 10/01/2023 18:26

We have an equal parental leave policy, which has also replaced paternity leave.
Also applies to adoption & surrogacy

6 months full
3 months 50%
3 months SSP

loverofpants · 10/01/2023 18:27

@habibihabibi yep! I took the 45 too. Love the username!

ThreeRingCircus · 10/01/2023 18:29

16 weeks on full pay then SMP up to the 9 month point. I then used accrued holiday to stretch to 10 months but couldn't afford the unpaid section of maternity leave so went back then.

Phrenologistsfinger · 10/01/2023 18:30

6 months full pay, 6 months smp. But Im infertile so it’s totally useless!

Wiluli · 10/01/2023 18:43

First Child statutory ( over a decade ago ) daughter 6 years ago 90% pay if I return at 6 24 weeks. Last child less than a year ago 42 weeks full pay ( but was part of a negotiation during a promotion ) .
