Why are people normalising antidepressants?!

Just watched yet another reel on Instagram about "the thugs that make me happy"...coffees with friends, downtime, fresh air...and my antidepressants.

It feels like the entire world thinks it's normal to take them.

I am in no way judging those who do, it just feels bloody tragic that life is so shit for so many people that this is now becoming what seems like the norm.

Lessen stress on people, pay them more, treat workers better.

Oh no, let's treat people like shit & shovel pills into them so they don't care.

Surely this is not a good thing.

Also is it normalising or is it reducing the stigma?

This.

Me taking anxiety and depression medication has made my daughters life infinitely better......I am alive for a start. And yes it was that serious after attempting suicide I realised that medication to help with chronic anxiety and depression was far better on a daily basis than being dead.

It’s more shocking that pharmaceutical companies marketed ad’s as fixing depression/anxiety caused by chemical imbalance from low levels of serotonin in such a way that it’s reeled off as fact again and again

for some time now this has been dismissed

I don’t think anyone is saying (on here) that ad’s shouldn’t be prescribed and there should be no stigma around taking ad’s

it’s been questioned for some time are they over prescribed, long term use and increased dosage is poorly managed these are ongoing discussions that need to be had along with open discussions about our mental health the more discussions the better but these discussions go hand in hand as they should do

They are more common than you think. Mental health is not talked about enough, it's totally normal to need anti depressants just like it's to totally normal to need medicine for your heart or your joints or a headache, your mental health needs to be cared for too!

And it's cheaper to shovel drugs into people, whilst making the big pharma industry endless billions, rather than treat people with talking therapy to help them face their demons.

Talking therapy doesn't work for everyone, the ONLY talking therapy available in my area is CBT which doesn't work for me. So it's not even just about providing it but also providing various types of therapy and finding one that might work.

I agree talking therapy doesn’t work for all, but it’s only one alternative to drugs. People neglect the body/mind connection. Lots can be achieved through, more embodiment/somatic therapies like yoga, breathing etc, self improvement. Spiritual growth, alternative therapies.
