Feeling ugly and low

Posting on here as I'm fed up and so low about my skin. I don't know what is wrong with it. When I get hot it gets worse. Anyone offer any tips to help.

When I get hot it shows up even more. Got prescribed acnecide but seems to make it worse. 🤯😐

I sympathise. I had bad skin and used to feel self conscious. I eventually got roacutane and it was a game changer.

Fedupwithmyskin · 05/01/2023 19:40

Hi how do you get that? It's only in patches other parts of my skin are clear!

It looks a bit like rosacea to me. What has your GP said so far?

Fedupwithmyskin · 05/01/2023 19:44

Just gave acnecide cream

Has a doctor said its acne? (hence why you're using acnecide) because it doesn't look like acne to me - looks quite flat rather than the bumpiness of acne (well mine was bumpy and so is my daughters). Freederm overnight repair moisturiser is good - it is for acne but it's a good overall cream for calming redness.

How old are you and do you have a good skin routine? I'm 40 and have had acne since my teens and it gets so much worse with hormonal changes. I was always trying to dry my spots out which actually made them take longer to heal. I now use a serum and moisturiser every morning and night and only rarely topical spot treatment. I also found that using a barrier cream after moisturiser and before make up really helpful to manage when I do have breakouts. Everyone's skin is different so you'll have to try various products to see what works for you. Also, maybe worth trying a hot cloth cleanser to open your pores when you cleanse to get any grime out x

Hi 👋 no the doctor just gave me the cream and didn't even see me in person. I'm late thirties. I don't wear make up as I'm not sure how to cover it up.

Hi not sure how to reply individually but it is flat. Not raised spots.

Merryoldgoat · 05/01/2023 19:53

Is it sore? Is it always there or does it come and go?

MargieReen · 05/01/2023 19:54

Looks like rosacea not acne.

Fedupwithmyskin · 05/01/2023 19:54

Hi no not sore at all. No itchy feeling etc. It calms down then flares up in sun / heat x

Is roseaca treatable? Ive never heard of it

You need to see a dr in person ideally. Could be an allergy to something you are putting on your face. A lot of “sensitive skin” creams / cleansers etc are known to make things worse so I would only be using water on it not face washes. Even make sure the shampoo etc doesn’t go on your face until an allergy is ruled out.

Fedupwithmyskin · 05/01/2023 19:56

Will have a look at the creams I use thanks. Would a Dr do anything? Or is there a service I can ask?

Definitely try skin and me. I had simulate and tried everything for 18 months. Having always had decent skin even as a teen it affected my confidence so badly. I tried everything to no avail. One week on skin and me it was gone, and I've had clear skin for 9 months now x

EnoBaby · 05/01/2023 20:01

I suffered Rosacea in the past that looked a lot like that, but I manage it really well via my skincare regimen.

I used to use Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser, which was the only thing that would calm it until recently. Now, I use the Inkey List's oat cleanser and hyaluronic acid cleanser, which are even better and way cheaper. I've not had a flare-up for many years.

If you’re on Facebook join Caroline Hirons Skincare Freaks and post these pics and you’ll get great advice.

I left because it’s a bit like a cult but people know their stuff on there.

A doctor needs to diagnose what the issue actually is because treating it without determining that could make it worse. Especially if you have said the cream they gave you has made it worse. Maybe ask a pharmacist if you can’t get a face to face drs appointment. Don’t just start trying random creams from suggestions on here without a proper diagnosis or you could make it worse.

Can you afford to see a dermatologist? It doesn’t look like acne to me - a skin specialist will be able to help you much better.

Fedupwithmyskin · 05/01/2023 20:17

How do I get a referral to a dermatologist? I feel guilty going to doctor when people need to get appointments for urgent treatment..

Thanks for all the recommendations 😊

A doctor would refer you but only after they have seen you and diagnosed you and probably tried a few different options that proved to be unsuccessful or you can pay to go to one privately at a private hospital/clinic.

Fedupwithmyskin · 05/01/2023 20:23

Thanks. I live in a city so there may be some clinics I can access

Is this only across your cheeks / t zone? Google lupus butterfly rash. Have a read of the symptoms of lupus and ask for some blood tests.
