Don't know how to vote, as I've never tried that one, but Charlie Bighams definitely do the best pre-made lasagne.

Yes.. by far!

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2023 20:13

@Sausagenbacon Can you clarify 'convenience meal' ? Did you mean a bought one?

Demonto · 05/01/2023 20:16

Costco chicken enchiladas for me

You can't beat a potato jacket done in the microwave (sacrilege to some I know 🤣) and served smothered with proper butter. Whole meal for 50p and so so tasty.

Yes!

Pourmeanotherwine · 05/01/2023 20:28

Beans on toast with grated cheese. Or maybe Nigellas marmite spaghetti. Or just a cheese omelette.

Pre-booked jackets are a revelation.

I work at a waitrose. Anything reduced we get for a quarter of the price after 5pm. I stock up on the charlie bighams meals. Got a freezer full. You do have to defrost before cooking tho, so nor as convenient as it sounds!

FuzzyPuffling · 05/01/2023 20:38

Beans on wholemeal toast with grated cheddar on top.

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2023 20:39

I'm pretty sure that Bigham's meals are not recommended for freezing.

Neverknowinglysensible · 05/01/2023 20:42

Nooooo! Charlie Bigham’s stuff is horrible (well, I’ve never had one I’ve liked anyway). They are always in the reduced section of my local Tesco and I keep on buying them, hoping they will taste nice one day. They never do…

For cheapness and tastiness, try an Aldi basic microwave macaroni cheese with an extra handful of grated vintage cheddar and loads of black pepper stirred in at the end. Definitely food of the gods!

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2023 20:45

Charlie Bigham's Macaroni Cheese with Pancetta is really nice. I'd love ro know where all these reduced ones are, they're generally snapped up around here.

whatwasIgoingtosay · 05/01/2023 20:46

M&S venison stew. Lush.

dudsville · 05/01/2023 20:49

Fools. It's Saisbury's TTD Macaroni cheese.

Honestly, macaroni cheese is so easy to make; if you are grating up extra cheese and stirring it in anyway then you might as well make from scratch!

NeuroWasabi · 05/01/2023 20:51

I agree with you OP and I don't even like curry much usually!

2023pending · 05/01/2023 20:52

M&S four cheese ravioli for me, it’s the best

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2023 20:52

So many mentiopns of cheese in this thread I'm going to need some Gaviscon. 😁

LaFemmeDamnee · 05/01/2023 20:53

Charlie Bigham lasagne has a ton of star anise in it. Bloody horrible.

808Kate1 · 05/01/2023 20:53

Boooooot · 05/01/2023 19:49

I’ve never had one! You can’t beat a £1 bisto lasagne slapped in between two pieces of buttered white bread.

A lasagnwich is food of the gods.

BellePeppa · 05/01/2023 20:53

I had their lasagne a few years ago and I thought it was horrible. They’re very expensive, I haven’t bought another CB since.

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2023 20:54

They do some very nice puddings too.

Geranium1984 · 05/01/2023 20:55

Charlie B meatballs Al forno for me!

HappyNewYear2023 · 05/01/2023 20:58

Just looked them up, almost a tenner for a ready meal!! Blimey. Rather have poached eggs on toast.

Redcrayons · 05/01/2023 20:59

CB fish pie is fab. I’m obviously not in an area that appreciates a fish pie as they are always in the yellow sticker shelf.
not sure how ‘convenient’ they are, they take ages to cook.

anywinewilldonow · 05/01/2023 21:02

CB fish pie and lasagne are meh. M & S gastropub fish pie and M & S best ever lasagne are so much better!
