To worry about going out tonight?

girlfriend44 · 31/12/2022 10:48

Usually stay in NYE but tonight an opportunity arose to go to pub with others so I thought that would be nice for a change and was all set to go.

Then on the news they were saying about Covid and flu etc. The pub is bound to be busy I would have thought so now I'm worried about going and mixing with everyone and going down ill.
Can't decide now whether to go or not. I know I'd regret it if I got ill. Touch wood not have Covid yet or flu. On the other hand I might miss out on some enjoyment.

WWYD. Anyone else thinking the same? It was seeing the news that has made me think?
Help.

You can get ill from anywhere tbh if you don’t want to go don’t go

RegularNameChangerVersion21 · 31/12/2022 10:54

You are increasing your chance of catching a bug if you go on a busy night out but assuming you usually go to shops, restaurants etc in your every day life the risk of catching something over the next month is only slightly increased.

Would it be so terrible if you were to catch something? Are you medically vulnerable? Or are you a single mum with no support newtork who would really struggle to care for the kids? If not I'd encourage you to go out and enjoy yourself. I understand there'll be some anxiety but if you constantly avoid socialising that anxiety will only grow and start to really limit your life.

Flowerfairy101 · 31/12/2022 10:58

Depends what commitments you have that being ill would affect. Covid aside, the flu/cold thing going round at the moment has knocked me and several other people I know on their arses for 3+ weeks.

LlynTegid · 31/12/2022 10:59

I wouldn't go in your shoes. Covid is still about and unlike even six months ago, not many people are testing. You are not going to enjoy something if you are worrying as you are.

I'd probably think differently for a wedding reception, or one after a funeral, but not for New Year's Eve.

Greenshake · 31/12/2022 10:59

Life has to go on and you cannot constantly be bound by ‘what ifs’.

Your risk is surely increased in a crowded pub. I do want to go. I'm just worried and don't want to be ill. Nobody does I suppose.

Go and enjoy yourself!!

LoveCillian · 31/12/2022 11:02

I am definitely going out tonight
Missed enough during the lockdowns ,as far as I am just getting on with it now

Lysianthus · 31/12/2022 11:03

A lot of pubs still have outside covered spaces with heaters etc, would that be an option? Dress up warm and be outside?

BlackForestCake · 31/12/2022 11:03

I am fairly sure that when I got covid I picked it up in a pub.

On the other hand, I visited dozens of pubs without getting covid.

You really won’t know until it happens.

skippy67 · 31/12/2022 11:05

Stay in then.

MajorCarolDanvers · 31/12/2022 11:05

I couldn't live my life like this. I'd go out.

fairgame84 · 31/12/2022 11:05

Nobody wants to be ill but you can catch it from anywhere. Do you want to live your life on fear for years and years?
If you're fit and healthy just live your life.

I've had covid twice that I know about and flu once.

Attictroll · 31/12/2022 11:07

Life is full of risk and I would prefer to risk it and have a night out than be sat in constantly

TheyreOnlyNoodlesMichael · 31/12/2022 11:07

Stay in then 🤷‍♀️ Ovbiously you could fall down the stairs, set fire to your kitchen or slip in the shower but as long as you stay safe from a virus that's the main thing.

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 31/12/2022 11:08

You can pick covid up from anywhere, yes pubs will be busy but supermarkets have been too. Unless you're CEV I'd go and enjoy myself, life's too short

Kennykenkencat · 31/12/2022 11:09

Everything is a risk. If you never go out then it reduces the risks of certain things but Increases your risks in others.

If you were worried about catching something then stay in forever more because every time you mix with other people then you have a risk of getting something.

I have caught flu more times in a supermarket than I have a pub

Stressedmum2017 · 31/12/2022 11:09

I haven't stepped foot in a pub yet been ill the entirety of December. You may get it but you also may get it at your local Co op even if you don't go. So you may as well do what you like and just not worry about it too deeply.

FrownedUpon · 31/12/2022 11:09

I wouldn’t go to a really crowded pub at the moment. Very likely to catch something with all the bugs going around. It’s personal choice though, so do what you feel comfortable with.

That's not very likely though is it setting fire to the kitchen. I see your point in a way though.

You could catch it anywhere. Go enjoy your life!

trythisforsize · 31/12/2022 11:17

It's a pretty nasty flu bug going around, I know 4 people who have been totally wiped out by it and missed most of Christmas.

I haven't had it and I will avoid it wherever possible. So it's a no to going out for me. There loads I want to crack on over the next week so really don't want illness to stop my flow.

Also the weather's terrible so people will be crowding indoors. Loads of hugging and kissing at New Year too. Catching a bug is near cert.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 31/12/2022 11:22

Today marks 3 years since we started hearing the news of Covid coming out of China. 3 years is a long time to miss out on!

I can completely vouch for this flu bug, it is a horror.
You're doing the right thing by staying in, especially if you have plans for the next week or so.
Enjoy your NY!

middleager · 31/12/2022 11:26

I've been ill for over a week with a horrible flu type bug. It knocked me off my feet and ruined Christmas.
Fairly sure I caught it in the supermaket. You can pick these things up anywhere, unfortunately.
